  1. This was gifted to me and came from a roadside stand.. It's damn good. Interesting flavor and HOT. Not the kind of hot that makes you jump up, but the kind of hot that builds up slowly and stays with you a long time.
  2. I've tried monitoring it but it leaves my wife's hands faster that I can see.
  3. Yep - The Cheek article and the prior CMP disclaimer always pointed to 180 gr or less as a reliable safeguard to whatever risk there was (and the exact amount of risk is open for debate). That's always been my benchmark. Why they chose to now move their goal posts to 172-174 grain is curious. In reality, even shooting heavier loads out of a well lubed M1 is not going to cause issues in the vast majority of rifles. Plenty of gun show guys will bet their life that a single round of 200 grain ammo will instantly been the op rod of every Garand. That's just not the case. Something has happened somewhere that caused them to make this small but albeit significant change in their stated position. I don't really care other than the curiosity to know why.
  4. Yep - that's always been their stance and the practice of most Garand owners. The rifle was built to fire the M2 Ball (150gr FMJ at 2740fps) or equivalent and that's what they have always recommended. That's what they have published in the past and referred any questions to their printed advisories. Something must have happened for them to send out a special email to everyone in their system. Maybe it's to reinforce the problems with heavier, higher pressure rounds to the newer owners, as their sales have been booming. I hope its that and not another scenario where someone pushed the envelope and got hurt. Some guys play with adjustable gas plugs to run higher pressure and try to prevent damage to the rifles, but that seems like a fools game considering the potential cost of a failure vs. the payoff of extra fps.
  5. Not sure what prompted the CMP to send out an advisory but they did. Opinions on this topic vary, but the CMP is obviously as informed as anyone. I'd have to go to my old CMP manuals to see what was added / changed, but for the most part, this appears to still be in line with conventional wisdom from the majority of the shooters and what they have published before - The change may be moving the bullet weight down from 180gr.....as that number has always been stuck in my mind, but I could be mistaken WARNING! Dear CMP Family, The CMP advises to not use .30/06 ammunition in M1 Garands, 1903s, and 1903A3s that is loaded beyond 50,000 CUP and has a bullet weight more than 172-174gr. These rifles are at least 70 years old and were not designed for max loads and super heavy bullets. Always wear hearing and eye protection when firing an M1 Garand, 1903 and/or 1903A3 rifle. This warning is an update/addition to the Ammunition section in the Read This First manual enclosed with each rifle shipment (M1 Garand manual-page 6 and M1903 manual-page 10). 6. Yup. 3 ingredients Crab, seasoning, oil.
  7. I had to look these up b/c those are not the BBQ crabs of my youth. Found the restaurant's website and it references a "batter". While I'm sure they were quite good, that's a divergence from the classic. That almost looks like it has some asian flair to it. I've seen shrimp done the same way still in the shell. I'd eat a mess of them for sure, but someone took some liberties with the description or the recipe.
  8. Cheaply in theory, but my experience in female math indicates that instead of one $2500 purse, she'll buy four $700 bootlegs and tell me she "saved me money".
  9. I normally wouldn’t do this because it may dox me, but I’ll help. I’ve got three ladies who work for me. They all graduated from the police academy but the good old boys’ network made them meter maids, crossing guards, etc. I hired them and they work for me now, apprehending scum like this. There is nothing these girls can’t handle. They’re experts in surveillance, martial arts, and weapons tactics....and I’m sure they can catch this guy in no time. And, the good news for you is when they catch him and deliver him to you, they’re smokin hot and single! PM me your number and I’ll call them on my speaker phone. Job will be done in 30 minutes.
  10. Did you know the also made a Nylon 10 series? Bolt Action - smooth bore .22 Why? who knows....and they only made a handful, so if you ever see something looking like a frankengun with a nylon stock....grab it.
  11. What are the odds he was hammered and shows back up as if nothing ever happened? I know a girl in the program that had a habit of quitting or calling in sick and then “forgetting” and showing up. Made for some awkward conversations and humorous amends.
  12. Looks perfectly fine the way it is, to me anyway. I love “character coloring” on old guns.
  13. I've got a storage room here and every time someone upgrades a PC in the office, the old one goes in this musty archive. I've probably got 15 old towers - mostly Dell, collecting dust and taking up room. I don't want to give them away as is, b/c they could have someone's personal data on them - albeit that data could be 10-15 years old in some cases. What's the best course of action to free up this space? I also have a bunch of old monitors - Could they be of value to anyone even if I donated those or will they just get tossed?
  14. Speaking of - Have you seen what those things are selling for now? They've been "rediscovered" or finally appreciated and are no longer languishing on pawn shop shelves. Not uncommon to see a nice one go for +++$500 and even the one you pulled from the river will fetch north of $300 and then be cleaned up.. I've still got mine and those are slick little shooters.
  15. That both cool and sad at the same time. I truly hate that for him, but yeah, that's part of my interest in how they do it and how impressive that is to me. Hope he's still doing the deal and that didn't sour him on sobriety. It's hard enough walking in, defeated, as an unknown cog in life's wheel, but to go in as a public figure would be a different deal. I guess I'm the most famous person I've ever seen in a meeting, which makes sense, as I'm an alcoholic, thus I'm all I ever think about!!!!!!!!
  16. I figured there was a cat in heat inside the carrier and the bobcat just couldn't resist. If indeed rabid, that would make sense - somewhat unusual but a logical explanation. This will serve one purpose, to energize the Nextdoor.com fanatics that think every dog, cat and child are in grave danger if they ever leave the house without someone laying down cover fire as they scamper to the safety of a mini-van in the driveway. Stupidity and fear will be reinforced 1000%.
  17. My only disagreement is this. I hate having to (or knowing someone else around me has to) put a rifle on fire to unload it. I get guys not wanting the bolt to open while hiking, etc. but that's why I'm a huge advocate of the 3-pos safety. I just believe that a rifle goes off safe only when intending to shoot, not when intending to shoot or unload. Seems counter-intuitive to me.
  18. We watched Fake Famous on HBO and I was shocked. My wife showed me that on ebay at any one time there may be over 1000 Louis Vuitton boxes and shopping bags for sale. Evidently a lot of women also decorate their walk in closets for "effect" and those things are displayed even empty as decoration and for the illusion of wealth. It's a weird world we live in.
  19. Thanks for sharing - I've got a mild fascination with "stars" who recover. I'm not someone who is starstruck in the least. In fact, I normally don't know who anyone is. I may recognize someone on the street for instance but am unsure if they are famous or graduated highschool with me. That said, my interest in those with some measure of fame who recover is thinking about the extra obstacles they faced. Pressure of the road, their posse, the grind to make it. I love listening to talks by those with fame. For some reason their stories really impact me and keep me in hope that I can continue down my path which in contrast appears more smooth. Mildly funny (to me) / csb that probably goes in a Stupid Things Husbands Do thread. I'll often listen to a speaker tape when driving, even if my wife is in the car. She's normal, but enjoys them to a point and then tunes them out if she wants and plays on her phone. Early in sobriety I was listening to a guy give a talk and after a few minutes, turned to my wife and said that this guy's voice was a dead ringer for "the Silence of the Lambs" guy. She looked at me like I was from Mars, asked if I was serious and then told me to go back to the intro. "Did you not notice he introduced himself as Tony? Are you drunk now? That is Anthony Hopkins you dumbass." She said Jesus could fly down in front of me and I'd think he was the new yoga instructor.
  20. Pretty sure the motto of Protect and Serve got left out of the handbook this go around. Protecting whom? Serving whom?
  21. Beg to differ - They aren't morons. They know exactly what they are doing - death by a thousand paper cuts sowing seeds of fear through the media with no regard for solving real problems. They're currying favor with those well meaning folks who want "common sense" laws but don't advocate for banning all firearms. Those gullible enough to side with these folks thinking they are helping enact reasonable legislation are just pawns. The masses are playing checkers and these nuts are playing chess.
  22. Are you talking about going without liability coverage - not just dropping comprehensive? I wouldn't ever own a vehicle (ranch / farm truck included) without liability coverage. Even if you aren't at fault you need the insurance company to be on the hook and provide you legal cover. You can and will be sued even if you aren't at fault in an accident. Errrrbody's lawyer will cast a wide net and just the cost to defend yourself against a frivolous countersuit far outweighs the cost of liability coverage. Someone rear ends you and you read end the car in front of you and you'll have legal bills out the ass. Kid runs out in front of you- you're bankrupt. Please don't do that. What happens if someone else needs to drive your car in an emergency, or you have a medical event while driving. This idea is terrible.
  23. So this saga has been going on for months....... And, you basically paid someone for the privilege of helping them move and load their shit. That's a new one. Please tell me you rented the Uhaul for him as well.
  24. This is the only way I can see how what was described to me could happen. Original material, identical packaging down to the branded tissue paper, real boxes, etc. (which evidently have a value unto themselves). Shell office, bogus receptionist, buzzed in with an appointment - ushered into a back room that's masquerading as a store room. Have to go with a known customer on 1st visit. Must bring a backpack or rolling suitcase to haul out purchases incognito. Very different from the .com stuff or the guy with a pop-up tent selling crap with the logo slightly altered. Not cheap, but not retail. Side note on the boxes - Evidently there is a robust online resale market for authentic boxes and bags sans merchandise. It's purchased by posers and influencers to stage their instagram photos as if they've been on a shopping spree.
