  1. Watch "Fake Famous" on HBO.
  2. Here's all I know about Tristar. Several years ago I bought a 28" 12 synthetic autoloader just to have as a guest gun or spare for me. My son came in to town and unexpectedly was invited to go shoot. He used it, and it miraculously went back home with him. He really likes it. Says it's a great gun.....shoots well, nice balance, he doesn't have to worry about it functioning, or ruining it if he has to use it as a boat oar. Of course he doesn't...I paid for it.
  3. I have always felt that the biggest divide is the value that is placed on education rather than the value that is paid into or for that education, and it isn't necessarily the "fault" of those who do not value it, by and large. They've never seen, much less received the payoff. The private school customers, for instance, value the idea of "education", regardless of what that "education" means to them...whether it means access, real learning, social status, etc. They value it and therefore invest time and money in it. We have an entire segment of our society which sees little to no value in earning an education, and therefore we are left with these un-invested parents and subsequently under-invested students. They have no relatable and real-life examples in their life who are demonstrating the benefits of an earned education. Often, the only examples they see of success are the antithesis of those who achieved through hard work in the educational system. An education is a stigma and not a badge or honor, much less an expectation. This divide spans races and parts of the country. Certainly there are examples of kids rising above this in spite of their parents and community, but those are far too rare. Until our societal system changes the perception in those communities and demonstrate in a relatable way that an education and life beyond is preferable to their current situation, we will continue to have teachers and entire school systems bailing water and saving few while losing the masses to a self fulfilling prophecy.
  4. I’ve got a son who’s been shooting clays and duck hunting with a SxS 12 for years. He loves it. Go for it and post pics.
  5. A side by side will be heavy relative to the overall size but he’ll grow in to it. The Turks make good guns. Nothing fancy and fit / finish isn’t perfect but for a 1st gun that will be used you won’t go wrong with it. Just be prepared that he “might” shoot as if it’s too heavy in the very shot term.
  6. One of my boys killed a Brewer’s duck very late in the same season and he’s still waiting on that. I can’t wait to see it. He’s grown and has a wall full of great mounts but this one will be the most interesting to me in his home.
  7. Amazing.... What a gorgeous specimen. Brilliant color pattern.
  8. SG Ammo actually put out a newsletter this week.....which means they have substantive inventory about which Sam could write. That’s the first time since June.
  9. Awesome - Thoughts and prayers for those squirrels hit with that slug.
  10. Wesson vegetable oil or mineral works just as well and is cheaper. Anything to put a layer on the surface and smother the larvae will work. Calling the former captain of the Valdez could be a solution as well.
  11. The outside world will still be there when you return. You've got the rest of your life (a better life) on the other side. There are a million things the disease will tell you are standing in the way of recovery, but none of them matter if you don't in fact recover. The program I chose to follow proves to me that we can "recover from this seemingly hopeless state of mind and body......" Godspeed @hundredTT!
  12. Here's the 1905 Winchester (.35 WSL) and 10/22 I picked up at auction. The 10/22 is unusual in that it is a .22Mag and is unfired (has a small handling or storage scuff on the stock - otherwise pristine). They were only made for 8 years and this one is from the 1st full production year. I wish the 1905 had the original rear sight on it, but the aperture sight is still period correct.
  13. WWII museum is great. Buy tickets online in advance.
  14. Probably - Those two have quit coming at night with the rest of the brood. They come in daylight and hang out under the deer like a cattle egrets.
  15. Looks like this little bandit is looking up in prayer to the protein feeder god.
  16. Yep - You can toss those dunks where you need to. Surely you have something left in that arm, Uncle Rico. A thermal propane fogger armed with prymethin will provide some noticeable short term benefits, especially if you fog the area for a couple of mornings and evenings in advance of any event. Benefits last 36-72 hours until the next batch comes in. If you're mostly outside on weekends, you could fog twice on Fridays and again Saturday morning and get some real benefit if you can drag ass out of bed at the right times.
  17. A pyrethrin misting - either through an automatic system you install or manually through a fogger as @woohorn mentions is the best way to target them, but becomes an uphill battle unless / until you target the source. Eliminate the standing water to best of your ability, and then treat what remains consistently with mosquito dunks. Once you establish a foothold it is easier to keep them at bay. A misting system will allow you to knock them down on a regular schedule and then hit them with a little extra right before or while you're outside. Not inexpensive, but possible as a DIY and worth it, especially if you have a large investment in an outdoor living area or have someone who is very sensitive to bites. The downside of pyrethrin is that is will also target beneficial insects and should be done at dawn and dusk when you have a chance to minimize those casualties while maximizing the effect on the mosquitos.
  18. Those prices seem pretty damn fair on their own merit, even more so when considering that there wouldn't be tax, could likely avoid shipping and handling, no waiting in lines, and mom of @hornfan785 would be the beneficiary.
  19. That's high enough to make Cheaper Than Dirt blush.
  20. I was afraid you'd say that about the fences. We're not high fenced and the thought of, or our experience with setting snares seems like pissing in the ocean.
  21. @Johnny Sack Add me to the list with @fattyflattie wanting some snare education on this forum. We've dabbled in it but never had any success because we didn't know what we were doing. I'd be grateful if you could drop some tips on this thread.
  22. If you find yourself in voir dire, after they ask you the first question, scream “Why are you questioning me? The mother fucking criminal is sitting right there!”... as you point to the defendant.
  23. By and large, you are correct. Being non milspec, mixing and matching AR-10 uppers and lowers from different mfgs is a crap shoot. even some generations of components within the same mfg family can be problematic.
  24. AR-10 adds a lot of weight due to the longer action. Just keep that in mind.... those are your .308, 6.5 Creedmoor etc. One idea would be to get a PSA lower and upper set in AR-15 and standard 5.56. Then you could add uppers in .300bo and 6.5. Grendel later and have 3 guns in one. 1000 ways to skin that cat- just one solution
