  1. It's rampant and the technology seems to stay one step ahead of the school's/professor's ability (or desire) to stop it. I was at lunch with a client who took a call from his kid who was driving to visit a buddy in Austin and was going to take an online exam for the buddy in exchange for a free weekend of food and booze. On the flip side, I heard that some of the new proctoring software may have technology built in to monitor eye / facial movement and send alerts to the professor if it appears the test taker is "looking away" too much - indicating that they had cheating resources at hand. Wandering eyes in class, Cliffs Notes, papers for BJ's, Chegg or whatever its called......the road goes on forever and the party never ends. Every school, every generation.......
  2. Medicare is not an option for long term or nursing home care. Medicaid is essentially a welfare program for those without financial means to pay for their own care, whether that is traditional healthcare or long term / nursing home care. The government will means test your mother's financial situation to determine if she qualifies. They will/can also perform a look-back to determine if she has disposed of assets in an attempt to qualify for the aid/welfare when otherwise not eligible. They do this to prevent someone from transferring assets in order to appear destitute and receive "free" care. They means test both income and assets. One could qualify for Medicaid (healthcare) and exempt their primary residence in that means testing. However, when it comes to Medicaid and long term care - the assumption is that the home is no longer the primary residence and thus the value of the equity in the home becomes part of the equation. Medicaid has its own limits and exclusions, but states may default to a higher limit. It is geographically dependent. Depending on the equity in her home, whether she has a full or divided interest in that equity, and if there are any other extenuating circumstances like a spouse or disabled person living in the home - it may or may not need to be sold. Those proceeds might have to be spent down on her care before Medicaid kicks in. There can also be a recovery of benefit costs against the estate by the state after the Medicaid recipient dies. Bottom line is that it is complicated. If you want to keep the home and she does not have the means to pay out of pocket for her long term care, then the advice about about seeking legal assistance is correct. It is often a highly emotional subject, the quality of her care is at stake, and there are moral considerations / legal ramifications regarding accepting welfare assistance if the money is otherwise available to pay for that care.
  3. That would be nice. I was considering stamping my braces preemptively, but a no-cost expedited process would be nice. I don't necessarily agree with their premise, but have to be practical instead of beating my head against the wall.
  4. If you needs some 9mm for the range, LAXAmmo has their reloads at below $.60 / pop. They're a good supplier.......Not your drunk uncle's handloads. 9mm Available
  5. After decades of arguments, my wife and I have finally settled into an unspoken ritual on Christmas evening. I cook a beef tender the correct way. Before I start to slice it, I put a skillet on the stovetop and turn on the heat. When I start to carve slices, I take off each end 1st. She walks over, takes both ends and puts them in the skillet to ruin them to her liking. No words are spoken and we don't look at each other's plates after doing that "dance". No fighting.....no ridicule...no "gross" comments.......Only internal disgust on my part and we're both happier for it.
  6. I had the same thought! Hey girl....I'm a lover and not a fighter....come with me.
  7. My favorite part was the 1 1/2 yr old 8 in the back who decided he’d sneak off with a babe while wanting no part of the fight in the field.
  8. Good point @TwiceHorn! For the normal drinker, booze isn't the axis on which their world spins. @BearSchlong I'm interested as to what direction or experiential advice you gave??? That's such a tough one for the newly sober. I'd be curious if they were also alcoholic, codependent, or perhaps both. All that seems to come into play when the family or significant other isn't content that the drunk isn't drinking and instead is bringing it up and/or encouraging it.
  9. And the glass is way too small.....was there not a Sonic Route 44 Styrofoam option available?
  10. Yeah - I watched a Korth with an extra 9mm cylinder go for over $8600 at auction earlier this month. My wife said it better be able to cook for me and screw me b/c those things would be lacking in my life if I bid on it.
  11. Yeah- here’s how I explain it. If you want an AR for shooting pigs, as a truck gun, or for casual shooting, you don’t need a higher end precision rig. The run of the mill will all go bang and will last. If you are being dropped into the desert where your life depends on the reliability of the rifle, or if you want one to approximate the accuracy of a higher end bolt gun for precision shooting then go with the Larue et al of the world. Match the problem with the solution. A LaRue will do everything a DPMS ORC can do, but the opposite isn’t true. Very similar to 1911’s . You can buy a Taurus or you can buy a Cabot.
  12. When I was growing up we wrapped all ducks, geese, and dove in newspaper and stored them in a real ice box on the porch for a few days before cleaning them.
  13. That same statement could be written by every AD in the country save one (Winner of the playoff) every year. We didn't win, better days are ahead, and XYZ is our coach. It's true, and it would be irrelevant the following day if the right replacement coach was suddenly there for the taking. That was nothing more than "Thanks for coming, and we'll see you next year." It has no connection to what happens tomorrow, next month, or any other day to follow.
  14. Yeah- I clearly haven’t thoroughly cleaned the cabin in a while bc my last drink was over 5 years ago. That bottle had been hiding under my head all these years.
  15. Spent the day cleaning up around my hunting cabin because the weather sucks for doing much else. Decided to flip my mattress - you know- get another 15 years out of it. Wouldn’t ya know it. Under the mattress was a 2/3 empty bottle of Beam in that convenient liter plastic traveler (90% of those have to be sold to our kind). Had mixed emotions. So very grateful I don’t have to come to at 4am and take a pull. A little disappointed in my old self that I left a man behind. I was always pretty good at inventory control and waste disposal so that’s out of character. Regardless, I poured it out and had that gratifying feeling like I had moved on from a toxic ex girlfriend who’s now a train wreck.
  16. Playing in games that are always that evenly matched on the scoreboard but against only one team even in the same zip code talent wise? Texas isn’t playing down to the level of the competition, but rather is coached down to the level of the competition. That’s an indictment even if Herman was undefeated at this point.
  17. I get that and I'll admit it was tough. I had huge issues with the higher power concept and had all my thinking convoluted confusing religion with spirituality. I felt the need to believe what other did (or appeared to) but I couldn't do it intellectually. Huge internal struggle most of my life...... What helped me turn the corner was my sponsor asking me a few questions......Was I powerless over anything? I hesitated and he said, that it was evident I was powerless over whiskey and I had to agree. He then asked me if I was could stop the tide from going in and out at the beach. With those answered, he asked IF, since I acknowledged whiskey and the ocean were more powerful than I, was it possible there are other forces more powerful as well. When I agreed it was possible, he had me stop right there and said that was enough.....willingness to believe. That's where it started for me, and sometimes has to restart for me when I get off kilter. That said, I also know some people in AA who in whatever fashion they choose, do not really have a higher power that they acknowledge. It works for them and they're happy and sober so who am I to say what's right or wrong. The goal isn't to ace some compliance test. The goal is to live soberly; happy, joyous and free...... so whatever works sounds like a good plan to me.
  18. Yeah - the Who, Where, & How is all above my pay grade. There is something in control out there, it isn't me, and my job is simply to check in on the regular.
  19. I knew a guy who loved to pull random parts- O-rings, washers, etc. out of his pocket and slip them on to a work surface right before completion just to get people worked up. He found it hilarious, but was smart enough to not let it go on too long, or ever walk away without revealing the joke.
  20. Herman's personality is not one that will handle that gracefully, either.
  21. Take a 1015, peel, cut off the top and scoop out about 1/3 of the center with a grapefruit spoon. Put a dollop of butter and a generous slug of Allegro in the cavity. Wrap in foil and bake or cook in the coals of a fire.
  22. That's funny.....Glad it worked out to be nothing.
  23. Controlled Chaos will be your friend in that case. They won’t linger / suffer but they’ll run like hell for 100-200 yards and out of your feeding/hunting area if you put one behind the shoulder of a big hog.
  24. Main beam length and tine length are where scores are made. A wide spread looks cool but isn’t what adds inches like beams and tines.
