  1. SG Ammo just emailed a new available list with 5.56 , 9mm and 7.62x.39 among others. some folks were asking about bulk Ammo some days back. Act fast. It won’t get any better heading into November. SGammo.com
  2. I know several mariner types and even some old Eagle Scouts who can't stand seeing a rope without a knot in it. They tie shit for fun / out of habit. I also know there are ignorant assholes among us. Until / unless there is video shown of the rope being tied, those of us out here reacting to news coverage will never know what the intent was at the race track. Some dolt may have thought they were playing an innocent prank, someone may have been OCD about ropes and tied a loop handle as they were standing there one day, someone may be an ignorant bigot, or someone may have been trying to sabotage NASCAR in the wake of the flag fallout. All one can hope for at this point is that more good than harm comes out of the entire debacle.
  3. I've tried several times to replicate GW Fins smoked sizzling oysters with moderate success, but never quite the same. They have the advantage of heating the shells under a salamander which is hotter than a home broiler and I like to think that's the difference. Or, maybe it's just that they're better at the process. Simply is usually better unless you are trying to hide the oyster from someone who isn't sure they like them. Little herbed or garlic butter of your liking and maybe some good Parmigiano-Reggiano to finish. Rockefeller seems to bury the flavor of the oyster too much but I've never turned it down. When the weather cools off I love them in a cream stew. Having them dropped into a very hot gumbo at the time it is served is always great. Haven't done it in a while, but we used to get a sack once or twice a year and just sit around and shuck and eat. Takes a while to get in the groove and if you have more eaters than shuckers that gets old for the shuckers.
  4. I don't see that we have a thread dedicated to oysters or their kinfolk, even though they show up on a lot of these threads. Just had some chargrilled by a new neighbor (fast becoming my favorite neighbor).... handed over the fence - I was expecting traditional grilled, but he topped each with a small amount of homemade pimento cheese and then he crumbled up some Best Stop cracklins on them and they were incredible. Might be the best I've had in a long time. Whatcha' got?
  5. It's a pretty difficult balance to be both skeptical of everything you read/hear and yet open minded to anything being possible at the same time. Painting one's self into a corner by presupposing what individuals or groups on either side of any argument are capable of in these times is pretty easy.
  6. Bravo D.W.
  7. Broken pelvis as a child. I was afraid I wouldn’t be allowed to play ball so I didn’t say anything that day and limped to bed early. My Mother found me whimpering in my sleep the next morning. Hopped up on a dorm bed and had a forgotten #2 pencil point break off basically in my taint. Graphite point is still there I guess. Worst pain was being on the losing end of a collision with a base runner in college. I bit through the front 1/3 of my tongue to the point it was just holding on by the bottom flap and a few thin strips that weren’t severed. Caused a nice fight while I was out cold. Couldn’t talk for many days and had to have some speech therapy afterwards. Tongues heal remarkably fast but beyond the initial pain, the phantom pain as the nerve ending healed over the next few months was like having someone hit my tongue with a surprise 120v periodically throughout the day.
  8. "I'll pay you when you pay me. To whom should my attorney address future correspondence?" They'll go away.
  9. Yep - I keep 2 Ozarka Easy-Pour bottles in the fridge in my office for during the week and 2 at home for weekends. Each bottle is 3L (101.4oz). I keep one on the ground beside my desk and suck on it throughout the day, then replace it with the other when the first is empty. Usually I'm done with one by noon and the other by five. On Weekends, I keep a 44oz Styrofoam cup of ice in my truck or outside if I'm working in the yard and pull from it constantly. Keeps me full, never feel the need to snack (I only eat two meals a day really) and I don't ever feel lethargic in the afternoons.
  10. I love those guns. I bought a 1905 (.32) and a 1907 (.351) at auction last year and turned around and sold them with the hopes of reinvesting the gains into more pristine models. I haven't found ones to re-buy yet but I'm always looking. I tapped out of an auction a few months ago on a 1907 that was marked as "Property of Folsom Prison". It got too rich for my blood but I would have loved to have it. Those rifles were mainstays for prison guards and railroad security, among other LEO types of the era. Such a cool look and simple action. I need to get re-energized on my search.
  11. As was mentioned above - take a look at your water consumption as well. It varies, but many if not most people have settled into a state of semi-dehydration and don't know it because it just feels normal. Try upping your water intake and see if that helps as well. The good news is that there are no real downsides either. Several studies have shown that the average ideal water consumption for an adult male is 3.5 - 4 liters per day. Most people fall short of that and for many, especially if active a number above that amount is needed. I'm probably to the other extreme, but I found my sweet spot is over 6 liters of water each day. I keep two 3 liter jugs in the fridge and finish them both throughout the day. Then I also pick up some fluids through coffee and tea or water with meals. I started that several years ago and the effect has been dramatic. YMMV but give it a try.
  12. Slim pickin's for sure - https://www.sgammo.com/product/223-556mm-ammo/840-round-can-223-rem-55-grain-fmj-bt-ammo-pmc-ar15-stripper-clips-and-bandol https://www.sgammo.com/product/223-556mm-ammo/500-round-case-556-nato-68-grain-bthp-match-hornady-frontier-ammo-made-lake-c
  13. My FIL used to be a serious distance runner and he swore by tart cherry juice for recovery and cramp prevention. you might consider talking to your internist about metabolic workup based on your activity and symptoms . Could be something in your bloodwork that could be identified.
  14. Yep. Lure should fall straight down and spool should stop as soon as whatever rig stops falling. You’re set for that weight. If you change baits that vary in weight, do the adjustment again before you cast the new rig. Practice the test a few times at home to get comfortable with what you’re doing and you can adjust the reel while fishing easily as needed. Once you get used to the reel you’ll eventually be able to make swag adjustments on the fly without doing a drop. Just comes with trial and error.
  15. Before the AR mainstreamed and the .300Blk became a household name, you’d be hard pressed to find a better truck/hog rifle than the Mini-30 loaded with nickel a round surplus ammo.
  16. If you’re inviting me out for a weekend, you can call it your kingdom and I won’t give a shit.
  17. Key Map!!
  18. When conference calls first became popular its a miracle 100’s of Regional Sales Manager’s weren’t murdered by their team - One guy sitting at a desk conducting a call while 5-10 guys are huddled inside phone booths from Albuquerque to Atlanta braving the cold and wind hearing the boss drone on and on about needing to close some deals so he could make his quarterly number.
  19. Love the gun but have you seen the prices lately? Crazy!!! Wouldn’t leave much room in the $1200 budget For optics and training classes, but it’s a great, fun gun. Very underrated amidst the AR craze.
  20. For a $1200 budget with the idea of home defense and general target shooting I’d spend the money on a basic AR-15 in carbine length, a simple red dot or reflex optic, and then some training on the proper use and function. Spend 1/2 to 2/3 on the rifle and sight and the balance on hiring an instructor to teach you the basics.... then shoot, shoot, shoot and become comfortable with it.
  21. I’m no expert and have no actual experience in such a claim but I have read about a situation where an alcoholic appealed a firing due to smelling of it on the job or behavior because of it. If you have a medical diagnosis or some history of treatment you may be able to appeal that the conduct was not deliberate, reckless, or intentional. Do you have some documentation? If so, you should be able to appeal. There might also be some protections under the ADA act. Gather your facts and seek an appeal. Seek legal advice if the cost/benefit analysis deems it worthwhile. Again, I’m not a law dog and have simply read about the matter out of curiosity and relevance in the lives of my brethren in this journey.
  22. “You cut my hours and then furloughed me for no cause attributed to my performance. You changed the terms of my employment and thus the agreement before I discussed moving on to resume full time paid employment elsewhere. When you reimburse me for the full amount of lost wages attributed to my reduced hours and subsequent furlough, I’ll reimburse you for the $2500 signing bonus.... if you really want to demand abiding by the contract’s original language. I’m sure you’ll see that as only fair since you seem insistent on holding to the contract. As soon as I receive your check for $xxxxx., I’ll remit back $2500.00”
  23. Some of the younger members on my team have been incessantly bitching about how “hard” things are post covid- people working from home and not getting information “instantly”, Zoom audio not always clear, etc. Oh the horrors!!!!! Made me want to laugh and tell them about..... Waiting in line at a bank of pay phones when a conference or trade show let out to call in and get messages. Then, making return calls from a hotel phone with a calling card. Pulling off the road to call in an order or check in with the office from a corner pay phone is the rain, heat, or cold. Having to use USPS to mail quotes to a customer and then wait for them to mail back a purchase order. Having a corresponding secretary and a dictaphone to create correspondence. Keeping track of long distance calls and cost accounting for them on an invoice when the order was urgent and actually required ***gasp**** phone calls to the factory or a vendor when mailed inquiries weren’t fast enough. Delivering massive catalogs and manuals by hand or mail to customers and manually updating them with any changes throughout the year(s) Thermal fax paper curling and discoloring and still thinking it was groundbreaking new age business technology Asking for (or vetting to whom you gave) your 800# Tri-part message pads and life before post-it notes. When expedited delivery meant taking a box to the station and putting it on a bus since there was no FedEx or UPS 1-2 day delivery. I’m sorry someone didn’t respond to an IM for 20 minutes or there was an echo on your Zoom...... now get off my lawn.
  24. Just about any of the Junior League cook books from TX to FL are solid IMO. Always several winners in each.
  25. May have been mentioned before, but I can’t stop eating those little peanut butter filled pretzels.
