  4. THE COURT: Ok. I’m going to set this for 3 day. SMITH: the prosecution requests 12 your honor. THE COURT: What? SMITH: 2 days for our case. One for defendants. 9 for impeaching the credibility of the Defendant, which is basically reciting the last 4 years.

  6. I think this is a big part of it. The last 10 years or so, and the last 4 very much so, religion in the US has really debased itself. I like my religion and I grew up more religious than most, but it has gotten harder and harder the further religion gets divorced from 'being good.'
  7. some of batman's more obscure weapons aren't all that believable.

  20. I just informed by brother in law of the passing. He's from Archer City and sort of friendly with McMurtry. He told me a two things. 1) he just bought first editions of Horseman, Pass By and two other books I can't remember and left them at the book store because the librarian said she'd have Larry sign them. Doesn't know if he ever got around to it; 2) he was in Tucson and reached out to him for lunch just a few months ago and McMurtry said he couldn't meet up because of COVID. What an absolute bummer.
  21. cheerful in all weathers. never shirked a task.
  22. I’ve got some bad news for you. Even when McMurtry was writing novels set in Los Angeles or Las Vegas or Washington, D.C., Texans were always a part of the narrative. He wrote of a former rodeo cowboy who became a womanizing antiques dealer (Cadillac Jack) and an erstwhile University of Texas football player who later became a Hollywood striver (Somebody’s Darling). Just before he fell ill, he was working on two more Texas-based stories—one a western based on the life of the cattleman Charles Goodnight, and the other a modern-day novel of manners about a Fort Worth socialite. (He never published them.) For all of the acerbic criticism of mundane Texas life and literature that marked his essays, the man loved Texans, big and small. https://www.texasmonthly.com/arts-entertainment/larry-mcmurtry-death/amp/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Web Social&utm_content=LarryMcMurtryObit&__twitter_impression=true
