I know there are jokes about how small his hands are, but his left hand looks freakishly small in this picture. Like one of those small hands pranks where you see how long until someone notices.
I think this just highlights the larger issue with how most people rarely see the bigger picture with anything. They care about right now and how it directly impacts them at this very moment. If it's convenient for me, I want it.
Every year people bitch about A Christmas Story. I love that movie because my Grandpa always lit up watching it. He would say it was pretty spot on with how his childhood growing up in Western Pennsylvania during the 1940's was. I appreciate all the details in the movie for that reason. That said I watch it once a year and I'm good. It's not a movie I binge watch like Home Alone or Christmas Vacation.
Yeah he does some amazing work. I assume he gets some kind of kickbacks for promoting products though. Who knows. The only reason I try and stick to the hard wax finish if possible is repairability. That's really important to me because things that are used in real life will inevitably get fucked up. I really wish we would have finished our hardwood floors in a hard wax oil, but I let the floor guys talk me out of it.
Hahaha, I have a wife and kids so I think you already know. The island top has held up well so far, but that's one of the great things about Rubio. If it gets fucked up you can fix it relatively easily.
If you go read the comments from the cult, they never mention a single thing about the context of what was said. It's sedition because the big guy said so.
Last pic from this project. I learned a lot on this one. Made a few mistakes and acquired some new tools. Turned out really nice though and I was happy to save that very expensive piece of walnut.
For anyone wondering, the wood did revert back to being cupped after a few days of drying out. I repeated the process and got the c-channels installed. They are doing a nice job so far and the legs are also helping to provide support. I ended up installing 62 Rampa inserts in total between four c-channels and two flat steel leg mounts. Overkill? Probably, but that's how I roll.
Last update before I disassemble, finish sand, and apply Rubio. Coming together mostly as I pictured in my head. Should be a nice addition to our living room.
A little progress on this. Got the slab cut to size. C-channel braces arrived. I routed out two 1/4" slots and installed steel Rampa inserts with M6 bolts. I decided not to inset them flush because they'll never be seen. Will do the other this weekend and hopefully install the legs so it's ready for finish sanding and some Rubio.
