  1. Depends on the airline and where you're going or flying out of. I couldn't find a flight out of Atlanta for my mom on Sunday after her connecting flight got canceled and each subsequent flight they moved her to got canceled. She was there 25 hours before finally getting on a plane and completing her trip. There were very few tickets available to any of the 4 big city airports in Texas (AUS, DFW, HOU, SAT) on any airline, and the ones that had a seat or two were being listed at prices one-way from $600‐1200. Fuck that. I could find a few listings at $360 for 2 days later. Some airlines and airports were more fucked than others. Delta and Atlanta were - and still are - especially bad.
  2. My mom (75) had an early flight on Sunday from Austin to Kansas City, with a connection in Atlanta (stupid) booked a month ago on Delta. She was supposed to be there at a specific time to get picked up by a specific relative hence the narrowed choice of airline and connection point. Dropped her off at the airport at 330a cst. Flight was listed as on-time. She got on the flight and flew to Atlanta, arriving about 930a est. Next flight was supposed to leave at 1030a est but was delayed and then canceled. Put her in standby (with 47 other people) for a 1pm flight. That was canceled. Told her 3pm. 445p she texted me that she just boarded a plane and they upgraded her to 1st Class. It's a 2 hour flight so I texted her at 7p to see if she made it to KC. Nope. Turns out the pilot was over his max hours for the day and they couldn't find another pilot so they pulled everyone back off the plane. Told her next update wouldn't be until 1130p est. Then they said it would be a 1am flight, but then that was canceled. Then it became 8am est. At this point we were talking about coming back to Austin but there were no flights back either. Other airlines had limited flights back, but even a one-way ticket was listed at over $1000. I was seriously talking about making the 14-hour drive to Atlanta to bring her back home - especially if she was going to be stranded there a couple days. Told her to call me if the 8am flight didn't happen. 8am flight got canceled. She didn't call. Got a text at 945 cst that she was on a plane again and hoped they'd actually take off this time. Couple hours later she let me know she'd made it to KC. 25 hour layover. They didn't even offer a hotel. She slept in the airport. Dumbest thing was that her suitcase made it to KC 20 hours before she did. Somehow it got on a plane but she didn't. She had taken a very small suitcase as a carryon but they made her check it for the 1st flight, citing no room on the plane. It had her phone charger and hearing aids charger inside and she was trying to charge her phone using the very slow airport shit. She's supposed to fly back on Friday via American with a connection in DFW. I'm prepared to drive to either KC or DFW if I have to. Hopefully this shit is fixed by then.
  3. A bit late, but we use Enfamil throughout for both kids.
  4. I have one. She unplugged it to 'save electricity'.
  5. My wife doesn't care to know or understand 90% of anything that doesn't involve her job or her favorite shows. She couldn't care about truck tonnage, humidifiers, etc. That's what I'm for. And if she does need to know for some reason, she won't bother looking it up. She'll just ask me. "You are my Google."
  6. Puppy pics? OK. Atlas when we first got him vs now (2 years old):
  7. Angling down towards Buda/Kyle it looks like.
  8. They're taking about themselves right? Although I'm not sure when their "one good season" was, maybe the Johnny 8ball season?
  9. Think I did that drive coming from Dallas to Austin. Was in a work truck and my boss called to ask where I was because he heard 35 got shut down due to water over the road north of Waco. I was already to Georgetown by that point so I didn't get stuck but it rained like a bitch all the way back. Don't think the force field is going to stop this one:
  10. Hahahaha! Cyclists don't stop at lights (or stop signs). I deliver packages all over austin and could seriously reduce the number of cyclists - and e-scooter riders - in this city by just plowing them under when they decide to shoot out across my path directly in front of me when I have a green light.
  11. I made up "FRQ" just to have something. I should have used "XYZ". My wife is a preschool special education teacher.
  12. One of the neighbor cats tends to wander into our front yard from time to time. Got to be on alert for incursions like that.
  13. Here's the problem with that: My wife (a teacher) will often start out by saying something like, "So today we were told that the new FRQ will completely change and we'll now have to start documenting everything..." Me: What's... Her: Will you let me finish? You always interrupt! Just let me finish! Me: Fine. Go ahead. Her: So anyway, I was talking to... She talks for 25 minutes straight without me saying a word. Finally she stops and doesn't make a sound for two whole minutes. Me: Are you done? Can I talk now? Her: Yes. Thank you for letting me finish. Me: OK. I have no idea what FRQ is or what anything you just said means in regards to it so you basically just talked for 25 minutes and I stopped listening 23 minutes ago because I couldn't understand any of it. If you didn't want to talk about the nail, you should have said so in the beginning so I'd know that the entire point is for you to vent and unload and I can ignore it all. But if you want me to actually pay attention, then you either need to communicate better or let me ask for a clarification IN THE FIRST MINUTE rather than waiting 25 minutes later to ask WTF you're even talking about. Now I don't give a shit and I don't want you repeating everything after you explain what you were even talking about. And quit acting all pissy over my "attitude". Either you're going to be mad I interrupted or mad I'm not going to listen to any more. I'm not getting laid either way so it doesn't matter.
  14. Has she talked to a local German Heritage chapter/organization? She could tutor or teach kids who are learning while she looks for that position with a multinational company. I have a friend who was born and raised in Germany who teaches at a German school part-time. She also runs a catering business featuring authentic German foods.
  15. Everything in the drawers in the hospital room - diapers, powder, whatever - is there for you, so take them home when you leave. The nurse will usually tell you this.
  16. Have her stand next to them and tell her: "I just want to make sure the dishwasher matches, too."
  17. So - about tree figgy? NSIAP
  18. I think they asked us either before we went so it was already in the file or right after checked up and they knew it was a boy (1st kid). I can't recall exactly of the did it 1st day (after kids was born early afternoon) or 2nd day. I do remember that I went with him when they took him and he started pissing right after they opened the diaper and it shot up over the sides of the bassinet and right onto my foot. I think it was first day. You can always mention it to your nurse after you're admitted so she can make sure it's noted.
  19. Hmm. They gave both of ours a quick little warm wash in the sink atea to get the blood and stuff off before wrapping them up. Didn't have any problems. If you want that delayed, make sure to tell the nurses so they just do a wipe down instead of a bath. Here's my 2nd right after the rinse and what she looks like now:
  20. Oh, and pro tip: After the epidural she won't feel anything waist down but also can't MOVE anything down there either. So when you're helping hold a leg up on one side while they check her cervix and they day she can put her legs back down, don't just let go thinking she'll lower them herself. BOOM! You'll be judged by both her and the nurse.
  21. Water broke just before midnight. We went to the hospital, they checked and admitted her about 130a Thursday morning, epidural at 7a, baby came at 126p. Visitors started showing up around 3p thru 9p. Wife was exhausted and sleeping. Baby has reflux so I was trying to stay awake to keep an eye on him, but around 1a I had been up for 41 hrs straight and couldn't stay awake anymore so they came and took him to the nursery until my wife woke up. I passed out on the little couch. Woke up about 11a on Day 2 and left for a bit to go get my paycheck and put it in the bank (Friday) and didn't feel like driving an hour to get home and then come back. Grabbed some take out and went back to the hospital. They released us Saturday morning.
  22. Wife had on a hospital gown and that's it. I had on regular clothes - jeans, shirt, etc. You don't touch nothing disgusting - even cutting the cord. Baby comes out all slimy and is dropped on mama while they start wiping it clean, then you cut the cord and they take it give it a bath and you go watch and listen as they show you how to do it. Then they wrap it up like a burrito and give it to you and you take it to mama who has been cleaned up.
  23. Unless your wife has a history of running marathons on a broken leg, tell her to get the epidural early. My wife - who has a low pain tolerance - decided she wanted to wait and see if she could handle it with the first kid (water broke but contractions hadn't started yet, kid came 6 days early). It was rough holding her still when contractions were hitting so they could get it in. On the second kid, she told them to send the epidural guy in as soon as we got to the room (scheduled inducement, kid was 6 days late). And a thing new dads can forget - while your wife will have a bag packed for her and the baby, make sure to have one for you too. I was in the hospital with wife and baby for 2 days wearing the same clothes because I didn't think to bring anything besides a phone charger.
  24. I'm ask my wife tonight if he's still taking it and why not if he isn't. My son's current teacher is very Type A in control of her classroom and once her and my son understood each other it got much better. Rarely ever hear anything from her about his behavior except for the time he decided to show someone his butt in class (he likes being the class clown).
