  1. I would think that was merely one of many, many data points. But yes, never a good idea to embarrass your school, team and athletic department like that.
  2. Great stuff, thanks, Beau! Hoping to find a link for the Forney-Lone Star tilt and the West Plains-Graham game. And keeping a good thought out for Helobious and his Cardinals.
  3. Everything in this post is gold.
  4. Good lord, so much Purdue. They have to prove it to me.
  5. You might be partly right, but it would be the entire system. Running a diploma mill is difficult when you have to raise the costs of attending school. Even as they stride proudly in the commuter school direction.
  6. Sherman always seemed to me to be a fish out of water there. I really don't know a lot about him, but he seemed more normal.
  7. Josephine and the Technicolor Dreamcoat
  8. They love their national championship coaches, what about Ed O? That would be a thing of beauty and a joy forever.
  9. He wasn't a good hitter, but he was an elite baserunner and pretty good defender. That used to play before teams caught up to the new realities of baseball. I remember Gaylord Perry was with Cleveland and had a scoreless streak at work; he walked Nelson to open the game, who proceeded to steal 2nd, 3rd and home.
  10. Dave Nelson is one of my favorite players ever. I actually received a private base running lesson from him. Nice man.
  11. I was at the Twins doubleheader in '72, sitting in the right-center bleachers. I was 12. We gave the Twins CF Bobby Darwin all kinds of shit. A just-turned 21 Bert Blyleven started one of the games for Minnesota.
  12. And the wind knocked three Jeff Burroughs home runs back into the LF's glove.
  13. Omaha isn't thrillsville, but it definitely doesn't suck.
  14. They've already built a church of iniquity that is straight out of Dabo's playbook.
  15. Later in his career. He was good with Oakland and only Kaline and Clemente had better arms in RF.
  16. The original Cleveland Municipal Stadium was 470 to CF and 322 down each line. In 1947 they moved CF to 440 and then in the 1970s (I think) to 410.
  17. On a neutral site, decent chance they all take down ATM.
  18. It may be an age thing, but I certainly remember the case. It received a lot of news coverage. National news.
