  1. Go get it boy
  2. Having a company and bosses who aren’t uptight about drinking at the office. My team had back to back to back meetings today. After our last meeting ended at 3, I got back to my desk and poured a round of Bourbon for the team. If my boss was around, he would have joined us. Too bad we were drinking shitty Five Nine. Smooth, but bland and boring.
  3. The white leather New Balance shoes got me.
  4. In reflection, I’m a hypocrite because I’ll happily watch videos on the Ukraine thread on DT. So… post away, I just won’t watch these wee-joes.
  5. I posted a live version of Rough Boy further up the thread. Without doubt my favorite ZZ Top song. Kent Carveli was a youtuber who covered a lot of Van Halen songs. This is his rendition of Rough Boy. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, especially the tap harmonics before he goes into the solos (skip to 2:14 or 3:17 if you just want to see the harmonics).
  6. One of Led Zeppelin's hidden gems, and probably the only song I can play from beginning to end without wandering off into something different. I played this in a Guitar Center several years ago and the salesperson stopped to say "Wow, you're the first person who's ever played that here." Of course Jimmy plays it better. Such a contemplative tone.
  7. Indeed a FAFO situation But can we PLEASE stop posting snuff videos? TIA.
  8. My wife used to makes statement like those. I usually just look at her and ask "What do you want me to do about it?" After 18 years together, I think she's almost caught on and now asks me to do things instead of expecting me to read her mind. All of this... God forbid I throw away a receipt. She'll go (or make me) dumpster dive until she finds that receipt. If it's so important, then put somewhere instead of leaving it on the kitchen island. Luckily my wife keeps her cars immaculate. Her 3 year old car looks brand new. Even the backseat is relatively clean even though she shuttles the kids around a lot more. OTOH, my daughter is a walking disaster, clothes everywhere and will leave all sorts of stuff in my car unless I keep hounding her to take it down with her.
  9. Also the entirety of Echoes. Yes, listen to the entire 25 minute song. You won't regret it. Especially this video since it was the last time Richard Wright performed before he died of cancer.
  10. So many fantastic David Gilmour solos... Both solos for Comfortable Numb. First at the 2:10 mark, outro solo at the 4:35 mark.
  11. I see your Marooned, and raise you the intro solo for Coming Back to Life. Damn, seeing Richard Wright in the video makes me sad.
  12. "Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you feel the heat around the corner." - Neil McCauley "Imagine for a second that you're carrying a backpack. I want you to feel the straps on your shoulders. Feel 'em? Now I want you to pack it with all the stuff that you have in your life. You start with the little things. The things on shelves and in drawers, the knick-knacks, the collectibles. Feel the weight as that adds up. Then you start adding larger stuff, clothes, table-top appliances, lamps, linens, your TV. The backpack should be getting pretty heavy now. And you go bigger. Your couch, bed, your kitchen table. Stuff it all in there. Your car, get it in there. Your home, whether it's a studio apartment or a two bedroom house. I want you to stuff it all into that backpack. Now try to walk. It's kind of hard, isn't it? " - Ryan Bingham
  13. Responding to my own post. The only things I would take with me if/when we move are old photos (I really need to get them digitized), my Telecaster, some precious metals and important documents. Most of what I buy these days are consumables and not durable goods. I've thought about getting a personal vehicle (I have a company car), but the thought of insurance and maintenance stop me from getting a mid-life crisis car. I purge on a regular basis, donating or selling stuff on FB Marketplace. I tell my kids to fill up a box every 2 months of things they don't play with and either trash or give those away. I should really get rid of my digital SLR since my phone takes better photos anyway... I'll do that after my current work crunch.
  14. My SIL and husband yesterday were complaining about their storage unit, about how difficult it was to unload and move the stuff in (2nd floor, up the elevator, last door on the left, yada yada), and also how the rent keeps going up. So I asked them what they were storing. ”You know, old books, old clothes, nicknacks…” “When was the last time you used them?” ”I don’t know, they’ve been in storage, at different storage units) so probably 3 year at least.” ”So why don’t you just sell it or throw it away?” ”I’m just not ready to… we’re not hoarders or anything, but we just don’t want to throw it away.” I usually don’t buy anything without already knowing where it’s going to go, or what it’s going to replace. So along the same lines, I hate getting gifts, or the kids getting presents because it’s just going to end up in a corner or on the ground. I also stopped buying physical books if it’s available on Apple Books. [edit] Come to think of it, it’s probably because my family moved every 3-4 year, so we bought only what we needed or really cherished.
  15. Solo starting around the 2:40 mark. Love the solo even the tone (granted it's a live recording) sucks. Also love the outro solo starting around the 3:20 mark, but the long note at 3:49 or so gives me the chills. Billy Gibbon's outro solo on Rough Boy starting around the 2:50 mark. It's the shift at around the 3:14 mark that sends it in another direction. Love it.
  16. Anyone have experience with Canyon bikes? A carbon endurance bike with 105 groupset going for $2,200 which seems like a good deal.
  17. Good article about how to increase artillery shell production - lower the requirements. Makes a lot of sense given the conditions on the ground. https://www.forbes.com/sites/craighooper/2024/01/02/want-200000-155mm-artillery-shells-a-month-for-ukraine-simplify-production/?sh=27bbe6b6c08a
  18. PRO: If you're looking for a good BJ, that's where you'll get one. Q: Why are fat (or ugly) girls so good at sucking dick? A: Because they have to be.
  19. My dad was the 4th of 9 kids growing up during WW2. Sanitation wasn't great in that part of the world, and 2 of my uncles, and an aunt died of unknown diseases while they were still young. My grandfather took my aunt out to the barn to die, and instructed my dad not to give her food or water because she was going to die anyway, and not to waste it on her. I never asked how my uncles died... Being the only surviving boy, my dad got to go to school while my aunts stayed home to help the family. He eventually graduated college and became a diplomat. Of the surviving aunts, only one has made it past elementary school. When my dad was a kid, he wore hand me downs from American GIs, and had to use a string to hold his pants up. A "nice" meal was to actually have rice with butter donated by missionaries. Otherwise their typical meal was sweet potatoes and vegetables. My dad is retired now with a pension. Everything him and my mom don't spend goes to my aunts or to his elementary school. I guess his elementary school was his first step towards a white collar career. If you saw him now, you'd never know he grew up dirt poor. He doesn't have the mindset of a poor person - pinching every penny, trying to protect his own. But he's frugal to himself and carefully considers everything he buys. Him and my mom are coming to visit in June, I should sit him down and find out more about his childhood and may get the low down on how my uncles died.
  20. I’d like to explore the Northern Territories on that map in more detail.
  21. Looks better than anything Zack Snyder comes up with.
