  1. Just got back from a Benson Boone concert. Who you ask? I don’t know either, but my 13 YO and her friends think he’s so dreamy. It was my kids’ first real concert and they had a lot of fun, singing along to the songs. The guy was a good showman and had a great voice as well. I actually enjoyed this guy a lot more than Blink 182 or Post Malone at SoFi stadium. I’m actually really looking forward to next February when Bob Schneider comes to Southern California. It’ll be more than 20 years since I last saw him at the Saxon Pub (is it still there?)
  2. Went to a Japanese bakery this morning at 6:30 to buy pastries for my team. The woman in front of me wanted a tuna roll. The person at the counter said they don’t have tuna rolls at the moment. The woman insisted she wants her tuna roll and damnit, someone needs to make it for her RIGHT NOW! The baker said nope, they’re busy and they’ll get to it when they get to it, and “please step aside so other people can get through.” As I was checking out, the woman was also paying for her stuff and said loudly “and a tuna roll when you guys get around to it.” I hope she waited a long, long time… I’m not exactly a morning person, but 6:30 is way too early to be a damn Karen.
  3. Got my property insurance bill today. Holy shit at $3,350. This is a no kidding 4x what I paid when I first moved into the house 10 years ago. Unlike Sbbruin and other LA area Horns, my house is in a 13 out of 100 fire risk zone according to the insurance company (even though we had a fire 2 miles away. and I live < 400 yards from uninhabited grassland). Anyway. I’m feeling surly that the bill is about $1,000 more than I expected
  4. Tanqueray and tonic with a wedge of lime is delicious and should be drunk nightly. I polished off a bottle in a week. Damn good drink to have in your hand when you're out grilling or hanging by the pool.
  5. 5, 3, 2, 4, 6, 1 The 80s girls look AI generated The 2025 are... worth punching in the mouth. At home, we'll call someone a koala, so say they're smooth brained if they do something absolutely stupid (yes we're kinda mean to each other that way). Pretty sure this has been posted before, but still funny.
  6. This nose-in / backing-in debate by itself could last longer than the Quinn Ewers thread.
  7. Most definitely
  8. Teenage girl attitude.
  9. I haven’t done the math or thought about it that way, so thank you. The place where I traded paid spot for silver eagles and spot - 1 on rounds and JM bars. I’m also planning on trading in some 5 oz bars and I’m sure I’ll take a bigger hit on those. When I last traded, the guy knocked $60 off the premium of a gold Maple. With the premiums these days, that’s almost 2 oz of silver. I have about 240 oz to trade in. With a few hundred more, I can get 3 more Maples, and feel 237 oz lighter.
  10. The 2 most MAGA people in my life (coworkers in construction; no shit you say) have never been outside the country, not even Mexico or Canada. In fact they’ve never had a passport. Not saying they’re dumb, because they most certainly or not. But their views on America and the world are extremely narrowly focused and influenced by the media. I think traveling and intermingling with people who are different from you can sometimes be daunting. But you learn different perspectives and what others go through without a filter, and you hopefully learn that there are things better that can be brought home, or appreciate what we have and not take for granted. I guess this is not just a MAGA issue. It applies to people on the other side of the political spectrum. Take the time to learn other people’s perspectives and chances are you’ll be a better person for it.

    Getting old sucks

My wife would agree with eating dinner at 5PM. She and the kids get HANGRY if they don’t eat. I’m of the type that can have breakfast at 11, lunch at 3 and dinner whenever. If I’m hungry, that’ll pass, I can eat breakfast in the morning and it’s all good.
  12. Isn’t it obvious? It’s you white people.
  13. I asked my boy how his day went, and he said he was mad during class. Me: "Why were you mad?" Boy: "The stock market went down." Me: "Why were you checking stocks during class?" Boy: "Because I wanted to see how my stocks were doing. And I don't want them to go down." He's 10.
  14. Also, gold/silver ratio is 81.5 today, down from 100 in April. Looking through my spreadsheet, the average ratio of my purchases was 55. Should I pull the trigger to trade silver for gold at 80? Or wait a bit longer to see if the ratio becomes more favorable? FWIW, I made trade a portion in 2024 when the ratio was around 82.
  15. The whole thing was a given.
  16. AAPL has been killing it the past 2 months, but for the past 12 months, GLD has done much better.
  17. Should have mentioned, the webinar is more focused on small and mid-sized businesses. Summary from the panelists: Shocks from policies - tariffs, immigration Concern and apprehension because policies keep changing, however, policy "pauses" have allowed small businesses to navigate Fewer regulations is helping businesses Job growth is significantly lower Recession is imminent, or already underway Slight disagreement by panelists on tariffs... 60% of tariffs is passed to consumers 20% of tariffs is absorbed by companies 15% of tariffs is absorbed by foreign manufacturers Inflation according to government sources is 2.6% Inflation forecasted to be 3.3% by 2026 Q1. Construction has jobs that aren't being filled (really?) Small business owners are being affected most by tariffs because cash flow doesn't allow for stocking up of inventory Surprisingly small business are mostly optimistic - small business owners are generally optimistic (or else they wouldn't open their own business) Small businesses have seen worse during 2008 financial crisis and covid.
  18. Listening to an economics webinar hosted by UCLA, a few key take-aways hiring is down capex is on hold because of uncertainty inventory levels down before Christmas season 77% of companies have passed on tariffs to consumers domestically produced items are raising prices even if they aren't directly affected by tariffs The word UNCERTAINTY over tariffs, interest rates, policy comes up over and over again.
  19. Their fault (your loss) for putting outlets for people to plug in and squat for the afternoon.
  20. “Oy! You can’t park there!!!”
