  1. This. Any of y'all who think Paxton's campaign can be derailed are smoking ALL the crack. He's a mean, utterly dishonest, criminal, fake evangelical white male. He wins that seat in a cakewalk. "Shitty, lying, evil white male" is the bullseye for "guaranteed electoral success" in Texas.
  2. I classed up my dorm room in Moore Hill with a single decorative item: Luckily, I had a buddy who had a family condo he moved into freshman year. I kept all my guns at his place. Otherwise, yeah....probably spent $50 on bedding, brought my Apple IIE from home, bought a small used fridge and a microwave, and brought a tiny CRT TV that we bought at a Woolworth's closeout a year or so before. I truly can't understand why any girls voluntarily spent time in my dorm room, yet they did. I must have been much better looking and more charming back in the day.
  3. This. There's nothing he can do to lose their support. Not a single damned thing. He could light the fucking White House on fire, and it would thrill his supporters because the rest of us would react with "Jesus fucking Christ, why is he burning down the White House?" and they would cackle about all of our "sweet lib tears." We are a dick-ocracy now. Being the biggest dick imaginable is the only attribute of any value. And it has near infinite value to them.
  4. It's more than that...it's the dumbest and shittiest reasons possible. A majority of this country either actively wants or is okay with: completely dismantling the Republic, so long as the government is sufficiently mean and vindictive against the weak and defenseless. They're a-ok with terminating the rights of due process and free speech, for example, so long as the government abuses the shit out of gay and trans and hispanic and black people.
  5. We still have, and still use, the forest green comforter I bought for my dorm room at the Wal-Mart that used to be behind Highland Mall (where Burlington Coat Factory is now). The thing is warm, and was built to last. Back in those days, you had to scrounge around to find all the stuff you needed for a dorm room, or first small apartment. Now? Target has displays set up with "everything you need" that is all color-coordinated and will set you back $2500. Interestingly, that approach has gone international as well. We were in two UK department stores this weekend, and they too had similar displays of bedding and such set up (start of the school year is the same wherever you go). And of course, IKEA is a solid choice wherever you are. But don't sleep on buying stuff off of students graduating, unloading stuff from their dorm/apartment, etc. My kiddos each got some items that way.
  6. "And we have voices too." Dude. Clock is running on that. The regime has declared its intent to revoke the broadcast licenses of all networks that do not praise the regime. The regime literally just declared the opposition political party to be a terrorist group. The 1st Amendment is dead.
  7. Well, what you have to remember it that Hitler was surely a much better business mind than Trump. Granted, the bar is low, but hey...Adolf jumped right over it!
  8. TLDR: "Whore leads charge to make better sex-bots. Film at 11:00."
  9. Well, we made it to the Marksman for a pint and Sunday roast. Great rec, @PenelopeWitherspoon - wife said it’s the best Sunday roast she’s ever had. A pint. Duck liver parfait, cold tomato soup, red and barley bun. Two different roasts (daughter and I split the rib roast). My wife was also crushing on the waiter. So, there’s that. Said goodbye to the daughter till Christmas (wife is staying here a couple more days, I have to get back to work).
  10. Goddammit. I just sat through a musical. We have time before dinner. Perfect! Let’s go sit in a pub! I’m with my wife and daughter. We’re having coffee and sharing a dessert in some trendy place. Goddammit. At least we’re having Sunday roast at dinner.
  11. Soho Sunday. And had some breffis. Sausage roll and double black pudding.
  12. Just got back from Coldplay at Wembley. Dudes. I’m not some big Coldplay fan, but that may have been the best concert I’ve seen. The stadium is part of it. It’s just so damned classic. And 90,000 people, from all over the world (seriously, dozens of different flags in the crowd), in one of the world’s capitals, singing and celebrating as one. Coldplay knows how to put the crowd in the palm of their hand and take them where they want to go. Got to take my wife and daughter and have that shared experience. I’m a lucky man.
  13. She just got handed a nice note, made her have the feels. Also, she was chain smoking and living hard outside the liquor store.
  14. And…some locals. Yeah…it’s not all English roses.
  15. On the Jubilee line. You can hear the 70s saxophone riff when the door opens. True fact. Now, onward the Wembley.
  16. British museum today (haven’t been in years). Such an amazing place - the empire’s attic. Some good, some not great. History is complicated. And because I’m 12…. Dinner at…. Several other amazing seafood dishes as well, just took a coupla pics of welsh oysters and scallop. Then, daughter and one of her flatmates decided we needed to go to a sketchy Wetherspoons for a pint, because if you don’t understand Spoons, you don’t understand the UK. That’s where we met our new friend Declan. Declan is a drunk dude from Doneghal sitting next to us who just asked where the fag shop is, and started telling the northern Irish roomie his life story. It’s awesome. His mom is one of 12, his dad is one of 12. Mom’s an alcoholic. She had Declan out of wedlock, so had to bail on Ireland. They’ve had it rough, but he’s trying to have a relationship with her. He spent some time in prison. Not sure what for. He really tried to sell us on going to his favorite pub, the Crown, just down the street. It’s great. They have music and dancing. But he can’t go with us. Because he’s been banned from the Crown. Declan’s teeth are a mess. Also, I understood about 50% of this, northern Irish roomie had to translate the rest. It was awesome. This planet is full of some amazing people.
  17. And, I mean…some chippie. Duh.
  18. Went to seven dials last night. Family secret: I am the eighth dial. And the fifth Beatle. And the first of the first among equals. Why did we go? To hit one of the daughter’s favorite restaurants, Pick & Cheese…it’s…a cheese restaurant. We hammered it. Then, we stopped for a chocolate at Knoop, and spotted this…mash restaurant. That’s what it is. And it looks interesting.
  19. Hit M&S for some things to bring home. Wandered up the seasoning aisle. No. Just no. HELL NO.
  20. Also…”OH MAKE SENSE.” Dunno what that means, but I dig it.
  21. In my daughter’s hood: I would eat there EVERY DAY. I mean…they have goat head. Do I know what dodo & gizzard is? No. Would I eat it? Hell yes. This joint seems compelling: Daughter informs us this is where her mates go for karaoke, she just cheers them on. And this place is awesome, with a soup Nazi vibe: “I’d like a medium beef and lamb wrap.” “No. You get a large chicken.” Ok. And it’s delicious, and makes for 2-3 meals.
  22. Counterpoint: she’s a Kentucky 8.
  23. I mean…that’s an evergreen post that works as a reply to pretty much every thread on this board….
  24. BING.. FUCKING....GO.
  25. Yeah, I recently read an article about it...but it was an old article talking about when they first opened. Had that in my brain. Still haven't ever been, because I naturally default to "I'll make it myself" when I want cajun food in this town.
