  1. Good. Let Florida feel that collapse.
  2. The dead kids are what tells you the freedom is working!
  3. 100%. Hell, happens to us lawyers. “That’s not a good strategy, I’ve seen this before and you can trust me,” but nope, we also need to engage an expert to tell you the same thing, and when the expert asks me “why did you hire us to tell you something so obvious?”, I tell them “yeah, because you have P.E. or some such after your name, and prepared a written report.”
  4. When the citizens and city council demand that you look into burying the lines - even though you know the answer, you’ve told them, but they won’t listen and trust you - you do a study so you have something objective to release to convince them that yes, this is a terrible idea. That’s not something unique to Austin. Happens at the Lege, in every city and town, etc. “Why don’t you just resurface all of our roads? And keep all the swimming pools open? And have snack bars in the libraries?” Telling people the obvious - there aren’t enough dollars - doesn’t get them off your back. So, you have to show them hard, objective data. “Repaving all streets will cost $3 billion, and require raising taxes 25% for 10 years - it’s right here in this study.”
  5. Also.....duh. People always say shit like "we should just bury all the power lines," and "to prevent floods, let's just build a new dam and reservoir!" These are multi-billion...sometimes multi-HUNDRED-billion dollar projects. Which have to be paid for. Usually by the people who are demanding them. Want to avoid power outages, but have your rates go up 3X? Then bury your lines, by all means.
  6. To hear my wife tell it, the reason that people are getting married these days is to create Instagram content. Seriously, she's super frustrated with Gen Z. They are WAY higher-maintenance than any other generation she's married (she's married plenty of Gen-X, and a ton of millennials - a generation she actually thinks highly of), they are rude/dismissive of other people's time/demands, and EVERYTHING is focused on how it will look on the 'gram. She has one coming up with NINE attendants on EACH SIDE (so the processional itself is going to take a full 5 minutes), and the couple has told her "we've only allotted 15 minutes for the wedding ceremony." FFS, a marriage by the JP at the courthouse takes 15 minutes. And they aren't shy about telling her what to wear so it will look right in photos, how and where to stand to create the perfect scene, etc. The whole fucking thing is about the "content" it will create. So, she's about done with the headache of dealing with them, of dealing with people who really don't give a shit about the actual marriage ceremony and vows at all, and spending her Fridays and Saturdays on the road to rehearsals and ceremonies. Instead, she wants to hang out and have morning coffee with me, maybe we go to some Longhorn baseball games and Austin FC matches, and chill.
  7. Following…we just started talking about a July trip to Maine, starting with a weekend in Boston (wife is beside herself to see a game at Fenway). So, reading this and may have some specific questions as we refine a plan.
  8. Counterpoint: Brazil is 10x the democracy/functioning republic that the US is.
  9. Wrong. The LAST thing that will happen is decay of precious football stadiums. See, this plan has two steps (I'm not making this up, this is exactly what Republican states are asking for): 1) stop federal funds (which actually have to be used for certain purposes, like....educating students, including those with disabilities and such), and then 2) divert those funds to unrestricted "block grants" to states to use however they want. So, the $500 million that USED to go to your state for special education, and the most underfunded schools? Well, now that $500 million is going to be used to build the most incredible football stadiums -- in white, suburban districts only -- that mankind has ever seen. As a practical matter, they just voided Brown v. Board of Education AND Plessey v. Ferguson. Our new national motto is "Separate and AWESOME - Whiteville High has a Godzillatron bigger than any university now!"
  10. I'd say we're a joke of a country, but jokes should be funny. We're just fucking pathetic. I don't know what's worse, the fact that we are repeatedly shooting ourselves in the dick, or that a majority of voters, as each bullet rips through another shred of our dick, yells "AGAIN!"
  11. This admin is literally killing people. And the country is cheering it on. We deserve EVERYTHING that is coming our way. Every bit of it.
  12. 1) We have Secret Police here in the US. 2) They are grabbing people off the street and "disappearing them" (when you take someone into custody and don't reveal where they are being held, that is being "disappeared") 3) The reason for doing so (if this story is accurate, and she did not commit any physical crime) is because they have voiced opinions -- not a call for violence, but opinions -- that are not favored by The Party. Literally all of the shit we called East Germany, the USSR, Nazi Germany "shitholes" for......we are fucking all-in on, and it is supported and cheered by posters on this site. They see an American Stasi, and they can barely contain their glee. And y'all say I'm out there for saying this fucking Republic is over, dead, and gone. We are fucking East Germany with nukes.
  13. Well, see, when civilians wear masks, they are per se terrorists and criminals. When the Gestapo wears masks, that's just good government. I gotta tell ya, among the many things I was wrong about for much of my life, my belief that the character of this nation was NOT one of "we fucking LOVE licking the boots of fascist secret police" was one of the things I was wrongest about. All those years of mocking nazis and soviets and the Stasi on pages and the screen, and it turns out that they main emotion Americans felt about that was....jealousy? Fucking hell.
  14. Great.....now my wife posts here.
  15. Look, man.....just because everyone in this administration lies out their ass doesn't mean that you should too.
  16. Oh, I'm not downplaying long COVID at all. I'm just noting that we're headed for MUCH worse than merely "fucking awful and horrific." We are intent on setting back all progress by at least 70-100 years. Disease and health management is but one facet of that, but man, we're going all-in on it FAST.
  17. Laura Loomer ranting against....incompetence....well, that's something to see.
  18. No, see, you don’t get it….we need to choose our words more carefully, except then those words get dozens of people slaughtered, get mobs to attack the capitol, are straight-up lies to congress (that just happened in the past 24 hours), etc. All of THOSE words are cool, and good, and we should continue to 100% support the people who choose those words and reward them with near-limitless power. The real problem is calling someone who is an open apologist for both historical Nazi activities and the current iterations of those ideologies a Nazi. THAT is what should make you angry. Not blood-soaked Wal-Mart floors, and Buffalo supermarket floors, and perjury, and violent insurrections. Nope, CRITICISM of those things is the real evil.
  19. Draw blood? No. These fuckers need to slash so many goddamned throats that the blood-soaked floor becomes too slick to walk on any more. Quit. Playing. Nice. The Republic is under full-frontal assault by literal fucking murderous fascists. Use every tool in your disposal, ethics and norms not only be damned, but be damned to hell.
  20. Nobody is in charge. A band of malevolent LITERAL internet trolls simply periodically has one or more of said trolls act as if he was the president, and nobody questions it. That's it. That is our actual executive branch, as it actually functions.
  21. "About to." Gosh, you're adorable sometimes. We are going to bring back fucking polio, man. Long COVID is the mildest box of shit we're unsealing these days.
  22. Says the guy who is happy with and unconditionally supports a movement and leadership that characterizes people with last names like mine as "invaders," and "animals," and "poisoning the blood of our country," DIRECTLY leading to the murder of 23 people in El Paso: “This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas. They are the instigators, not me. I am simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by the invasion.” Your concern for how people "should be more careful with words" is duly noted, and thrown in the fucking trash can with the rest of your gaslighting bullshit hypocrisy. Get fucked.
  23. Shit, then....I must be the cock-of-th-walk then. But he also forgets one thing about doomerism: it is accurate. Like a 95% hit rate on being right. That's important. We need to stop being surprised by each new horror that happens - they are all predictable, and indeed are usually already predicted.
  24. You know, of the many, many things that are characteristics of the hellscape in which we currently are stuck.....the prevalence of insanely awful women singing insanely awful songs does not get enough discussion. Lara Trump's Tom Petty Covers, the J6 Choir, some Patriot Babes group or whatnot.....these are musical performances that could 100% be used as instruments of torture by Beelzebub himself. And we get a relentless stream of them. Truly, the giant planet-killing meteor cannot get here soon enough.
  25. Or at least shopping for a new windowless apartment.
