  1. On the bright side, gave us some pretty good music. I mean....there's always a silver lining, right? Sure, it's a mountain of shit, but find that one shiny thing so we can call it a win. That's the American way.
  2. That both looks amazing….and like it would run in fear if a spice came within a mile of it.
  3. Correct. Engineer, lawyer, doesn’t matter. It’s your deal/bar card. If you’re signing it, you read it. At least the final draft that you sign.
  4. I mean….except two of those are Houston joints?
  5. I mean….you get it.
  6. Wife has been getting over a nagging virus, it’s made her stomach and appetite iffy. But she needed something simple and hearty. Say no more. Picadillo and tortillas.
  7. Instead of watching this crapfest, I spent the afternoon cleaning out my dead mother’s closet. It involved sifting through some horribad outfits from the 90s, and filling trash bags full of old lady underwear and socks. Which, from what I’ve seen, was more enjoyable than watching this team. I got to watch Niblett and the OT, so…yay. But Jesus. We just aren’t good.
  8. Shit, dude. These days, we’re more likely to hit em with air strikes than air lifts. This hemisphere is fucked, as we’ve decided to be its chief predator.
  9. Just checked my two standard carnicerias for outside skirt. Nope. But, did see this, which reminds me that there are still things in this world that are good and right. Go spend your $5-6 each for a breakfast taco at all your hipster places. Or go to La Finca.
  10. Yeah….this one could be really fucking bad for some places that just don’t have the resources.

    Burgers

    You’re killing me, man.
  12. And that’s a gal who knows a thing or two about mattresses.
  13. We’re big fans of Tumble 22. My wife likes a crispy chicken sandwich, and they make one with fried boneless thigh that’s not too big and is really good. And their Nashville hot is actually really good.
  14. Wow…this is amazing. Mucho thanks. If this is the direction we go, and we end up there, would be happy to buy you a cocktail or three.
  15. He is a (1) legitimately insane (2) complete fucking idiot. Seriously, you Trump supporters…this is your diety. A man whose brain is not an actual thing. Jesus fucking Christ. How can someone like that have ANY power, much less ALL of it?
  16. Ain’t nuthin gonna happen.

    Burgers

Longhorn specials is what you get at Top Notch. Get rings and tots. Hangtown Grill on Rio Grande was Dave’s in the 93-95 window, because we ate there plenty in law school. GM was still there then as well, needed some vitamin g many Sunday afternoons. Mad Dog and Beans was open between 92-95 in fits and starts, IIRC. It was closed for a while because of tax issues, then re-opened for a bit, then closed for good. There. There’s some Austin burger history.
  18. Haven’t had it. But I long said that the burger and fries at Joe’s Bakery was secretly the best in town. It didn’t make the post-Covid menu revamp. That’s actually a rule for Mexican restaurants all over Texas. I remember eating at places in the valley, Sonora, all over….and the little Mexican cafe in town almost always had a fantastic burger. Because Mexicans can fucking cook.
  19. You get it. There is no scenario in Trumpland where the people don’t get completely buttfucked, repeatedly and relentlessly.
  20. I mean, the dichotomy right there is so easy. Imagine what the coverage on Fox would be had Obama done exactly what Trump just did. We might actually be facing a violent insurrection. And while that degree of reaction wouldn’t be merited, universal condemnation would be. Today…those same people can’t fall to their knees and suck Trump off fast enough.
  21. The part where we were moving forward and getting better. We were a deeply imperfect country, but the arc was indeed towards building a more perfect union. Our biggest failing was our failure to improve quickly enough, to move past our sins. The America I lived in 10 years ago was better than the America I was born in. Now, we’re not just moving backwards, we’re flying there at supersonic speed. Because, as always, it’s much easier to destroy than to create. The America I live in today is worse than it was 10 or 20 years ago, and it’s getting much worse every day. That’s the difference.
  22. I mean....dinner and the oyster bar the next day WERE great. No complaints there. But you weren't the one who made her sigh loudly enough to be heard in Metarie.
  23. I mean, in the stack of "stupid as fuck reasons to completely destroy an incredible country," it certainly fits.
  24. Geez. It's like you guys don't know when to hit suburban/nice urban HEBs at the right time, when the yoga pants mafia - many of whom you know - has finished their workout and needs to hit the store for a few things. If you can't enjoy that, your life is a joyless existence.
  25. FIF accuracy. You damned well know that "maybe not" isn't even on the table as a possibility anymore.
