  1. I picked up something like that when we were in Germany over the New Year. By the time I got home, it was well on its way to turning into a secondary infection. Got some antibiotics and some codeine cough syrup, and got it under control. But all-in-all, what should have been a normal "cold" messed with me for nearly a month before all the gunk and stuff was out of my system. It wasn't fun.
  2. I mean....we're all joking and laughing now, but.....fucking hell. You're not wrong. We were having lunch on Sunday with some of my mexican family that was in town (they live in Guadalajara, which is not exactly a paradise), and when we discussed Mexico as a "getaway plan" for healthcare and other purposes, they pretty much responded like this:
  3. I'm sorry, I was told that the collective economic geniuses who now control the Trump administration, as well as by every single Trump voter, that the President of the United States controls all prices of everything, and inflation of anything and everything is the fault of the POTUS. They wouldn't lie to us, so the coffee price hike therefore is Trump's fault.
  4. It’s pretty good, and pretty real-deal.
  5. Yeah. It was meadoker. But, I mean…I ate it.
  6. Noshes for dinner. A pickle loaf sammich on white bread. The last of some salmon I smoked with saltines. And the last leftover Cheetos brand jalapeño Mac and cheese the boy made before he left.
  7. If you wanted to incentivize everyone else to develop an alternative to a communications network that can be turned off at the whim of a supervillain…you wouldn’t handle this any differently.
  8. What is being demanded of Russia? Quid pro quos for Dotard. That is 100% certainty. Dotard delivers Ukraine to Putin. Putin delivers wealth to Dotard. Everything Dotard does is 1) purely transactional, and 2) for personal benefit.
  9. Ana agrees with Yarvin, word-for-word. You’ll note that he will never say that he disagrees with Yarvin’s thesis here.
  10. Again…irony is dead. Anything America does abroad is evil American imperialism….including accepting other states into alliance as chosen by those states (like Poland and the Baltics…who MAYBE have significant reason to turn away from Russia). Russian imperialism by open conquest, threats and intimidation…well, that’s natural, and they cannot help it, and the world should accommodate and coddle them, and apologize for being in their way. It’s just f’n awesome to watch.
  11. As you completely sidestep you calling his actual words western propaganda. Perfection.
  12. This. It’s fantastic. Did not address any of the substantive points made, just dismissed it all out of hand as propaganda. Including the part where 956 suggested that maybe, if you’d like to understand Russia’s motives and perspective, we should listen to its autocratic leader’s words. And those words, from his mouth, are apparently - to Ana - American imperialist propaganda. The beclowning is spectacular.

Frustrating as hell. Lots of chances, no finishing. Gallagher provides a real spark for the bench, although I really hope Desler is ok, because he’s a beast. Kolmanic comes in and makes at least one really pretty cross, but our service was generally unremarkable. And…Wolff cannot be the answer for corner kicks. Nothing happens. He gets little loft. Corners have never been a strength for us (except when Kolmanic takes them with his left foot), but they’re particularly impotent now.
  14. Counterpoint -- Trump is a bottom bitch when facing anyone who asserts power. Trump only has "power" when he is punching way, way down. He'll do as he's told. Because that's what little bitches do.
  15. Fucking hell. I should have bought a fuckload of GBPs a couple of weeks ago. Was trading at $1.26 5 days ago, now it's at $1.29. If it goes down to $1.28, I'm buying a shitton (as I have significant obligations that have to be paid in GBP). Goddammit, I'm kicking myself. Of course, I'm also glad that much of my dad's estate is in actual real property and CDs (he'd gotten a lot of stuff out of the market). And yeah, I may start buying gold. Or lead. In bullet form.
  16. "Affected?" As in....the fentanyl producers started labeling their product with stickers that said "totally not subject to tariffs, you can let this through free of charge," or something else? Good, bad, indifferent?
  17. The simple truth is that Trump doesn’t believe anything, and has no guiding principles other than than “Trump needs praise/validation to try to fill the unfillable void.” That’s it. He’ll say he loves dogs if he things it will earn him praise. One second later, he’ll say he hates dogs if he thinks it will earn him .00000001% more praise and admiration. That’s the whole calculus. He actually has no independent opinion as to dogs. Dogs are just a subject he can use to obtain the thing he needs most: praise and validation. He’s not a genius. We just have a situation where a man’s uniquely outsized psychosis and coping tools for same happen to be identical with the set of political skills best suited to manipulate the masses in this era. He would happily kill you dead if he thought it would get him .000001% more praise. And what makes it worse is that it’s not even personal, or for some principled reason (even an evil reasoned principle, like “Jews are harmful and must be exterminated for the betterment of humanity”). Nope. It’s just “if I exterminate the Jews, one additional person will worship me.” Humanity is beyond fucked.
  18. Seriously. These stories could start with “Donald Trump personally raped his wife in front of him, then murdered, cooked, and ate his infant son,” and the opening line of the interview would be “I still support President Trump, but….” There is nothing he can do to lose their support. Nothing. His old bit about “I could shoot a man in the face in the middle of 5th Avenue and not lose their support?” We’re seeing that he wouldn’t even lose their support of…the man he shot in the face in the middle of 5th avenue. [Man in hospital, head fully bandaged to cover the giant hole where his left cheek and eye used to be] “I mean, I still support him…”
  19. Think of what the defining trends/entities of this era will be when the history books are written: private equity, crypto, random-ass tariffs, resurgent white supremacy, the return of preventable viral diseases due to anti-vaxxers, doubling down on climate-harming activities (MORE coal and oil, now!), the ending of functional public education…and the list goes on. This is the era of societal self-immolation. God, it’s so fucking stupid. But at least we stopped trans people from playing volleyball. So, it’s all worth it.
  20. The new Nugent-Greenwood-Kid Rock Center is gonna be LIT.
  21. He won’t answer. But the answer is “yes.” Because you see, Russia is actually the savior of civilization, and the only ideologically pure society on earth.
  22. You still think that existing institutions and processes have a chance. I love that about you. You are a relentless optimist, with a beautiful heart. You are also dead-wrong. This ends in blood. That has always been how it is going to end. Once a significant portion of a society decides to embark on the path that MAGA is following, the whole society gets dragged along to the inevitable hellish, blood-soaked destination. It’s why we never should have started this stupid trip, but they insisted on it, and too many people didn’t listen and went along with them. It’s over. It’s been over since 2008, when we crossed the catastrophic rubicon of electing a black man president.
  23. Oh….my friend….I have a long, proven list of ways to repel women.
  24. Truly…that’s such a tell. The people who have intimate experience with Russia and how Russia operates are almost entirely of one mind at present. People who have mainlined Russian propaganda, like Ana, think they understand Russia, its motives, patterns, and likely next steps better than the people who have lived it. The hubris and arrogance is pretty spectacular. Remember how the rest of the SEC really didn’t believe us back when aggy was joining them, when we told them what barshit weirdos aggy is? Then…they got to experience aggy firsthand, and have said in recent years “man, yall were right. Those folks are fucking weird.” We know aggy. We have lived with aggy for over a century as neighbors. We have had to deal with their relentless idiocy. We known them better than anyone. The other SEC schools should have listened to us. Ana is out there telling the world that Longhorns don’t understand aggy, they’re all wrong. Really, what the world needs to do is welcome aggy with open arms, embrace their traditions, and build a bonfire with them. Fuck that. Pay attention to the people who know the adversary. Listen and learn. Ana will do neither. I’m a nobody. But I’ve been to several of the relevant places. And I was objectively surprised by the nature, degree, and depth of anti-Russian sentiment. It occurred to me “wow…these folks really hate Russia.” And I didn’t have to wonder why for long; they literally have museums and exhibits on the street explaining exactly why. For example, Estonia has preserved the KGB’s prison used to hold and abuse Estonians who ran afoul of the Russian order. But, you know…Estonia should probably just surrender to Russia, instead of provoking them by having a functioning democracy right next door.
  25. THIS. I don't even vehemently disagree with the case. I live in the real world, and have to make and counsel people to make real-world decisions that may not be even close to their optimal outcome. I disagree with it, but I can see it even being a rational take. But yeah, what you're getting from Ana and the Trump Regime and Lavrov and crew (seriously, the messaging is 100% identical for all three) is your second paragraph. Ana doesn't want peace. He wants complete capitulation by Ukraine, and total victory for Russia. If he actually believed in using "leverage," he'd acknowledge that Ukraine indeed has some (much of that leverage being tied to its allies), and can and should use it. Instead, he wants complete, unconditional surrender. Because -- and this is important -- that's what he wants. Peace is not the absence of conflict. Your wife can have "peaceful sex" if she just lays back and lets her rapist have his way. Which is exactly what Ana wants. In the actual literal sense -- Russia has unquestionably used rape as a weapon of war in this conflict, and will continue to do so (even after any "peace" is imposed).
