  1. For most New Testament stuff, mostly koine Greek (remember, the Gospels were largely WRITTEN something like 70-100 years, or longer, after-the-fact). For OT stuff, mostly Hebrew, but some Aramaic there.
  2. Indeed, all are valid thoughts/concerns. I think he's looking at doing so in the actual UK, so that's part of the "research" (he has some time, graduation is over a year away). And he's still very much in the "exploration" phase of how to serve. Personally, I think it's a big bite -- not just something you do for 2 years. But...we'll see.
  3. Well, in fairness, she's female, and you're male. Which means that you will always have the maturity of an 11 year old boy.
  4. Oh....it has. We just haven't found the cases yet. This thing blew past containment a LONG time ago.
  5. There are few places on earth where the crushing gravity of near-infinite ignorance and stupidity can be found than in any place that calls itself a "Bible Church." It's like insisting that being a self-trained fighter pilot is the way to go. Shit, my wife teaches a class with a friend of hers, and watching and listening to them wrestle with the history and theology of literally 6-8 verses in one chapter, reviewing multiple translations (because if you don't read the original text, you're already off-course) and writings on the various contexts of the passage, blows me away. And it grants so much meaning and impact to the theology. As opposed to Cletus, who done read the Bible cover to cover 4 times, in the original English just like Jesus talked, so he's got it all figured out. That's the hell of it. As much as I HATE American "Christians," one of the main reasons I do is because there are plenty of examples of people who do it RIGHT. And the contrast...is fucking brutally stark. Hold up people who actually walk the walk next to American "Christians," and you see in stark relief what giant pieces of shit those self-declared "Christians" really are.
  6. So, continuing to deal with adult kids. Right now, we have the boy home -- he's almost 22, going to do his Sr. year of university next year. He's home for his grandfather's memorial, and the gravity of the situation, the passing of generations, his coming adulthood...it's all connecting with him. We had some time to talk about what he wants to do when he graduates. He said that he knows that, to be truly marketable, he'll need a graduate degree of some sort. But he also wants to dedicate some real time to "service," and experiencing the real world NOT as a student. He's talked about trying to get on with some international development work, that sort of thing ( @InkaUtexas), but he is also looking at spending some time as....a firefighter. He said "I know y'all are a 'no' no military service....and under the current regime, I am too, but I feel like I need to serve now, while I'm young." So, he may stay in the UK, activate his post-uni visa, and be....a firefighter. Is that a good thing (long term), or a waste of time? I have no idea. He talked about the fact that his career will likely take him to a place/world where he's wearing a suit, and managing projects/strategies somehow. And he feels that having some real "boots on the ground" real world experience and perspective before he does so will serve him well -- I don't know. But I know that his heart....is the size of the fucking moon. And he so wants to help people, and that will lead him some places that we don't even know about.; he's already thinking ahead to what may be needed in Ukraine if/when the war ends, and he already has something of a network and connections there, so who knows. It's a bit awe-inspiring to watch these young folks develop into adults who actually do and mean something to the world around them. I am proud of him, but I can't take credit or ownership for a damned thing. He is his own man. And he's a good man, who cares. I feel a little shamed in comparison, honestly.
  7. Man.....my wife went to the WRONG fucking seminary, then. Her seminary is pretty ignorant about financial realities, actually. They could USE some "fiscal wisdom and realism" coursework.
  8. I mean, it really is amazing, isn't it? Anyone with any real-world experience knows that "outwardly showy 'Christians'" are the fucking WORST. Hell, I remember it from my days waiting tables as a college student. If you saw one of your tables doing this before the meal, in full view of the world (and often putting on a show of it): ....you knew you were 1) about to get abused/treated like absolute shit, and 2) tipped for shit. I mean, it's a fucking MEME: The experience and take is fucking UNIVERSAL, and beyond debate. Pretty fucking shitty indictment of American "Christianity" right there.
  9. EVERY place needs more Kaja.
  10. I was just using shorthand. I am a strawberry fan, and something like this is my usual go-to: Gotta have some decent chunks of fruit in there, but not so big/much that it's not easily spreadable. As is often the case, it's something the euros generally do better than we do. When in Germany last month, pretty much every day at breakfast I had SOMETHING with real-deal fresh strawberry jam/preserves -- it was fantastic.
  11. I mean, it was a nice....Hyundai, so....yeah. We aren't fancy car people.
  12. Because they aren’t selling a car (dealers make $0 on cars). They are selling financing/a loan, add-ons (warranty), and an avenue to future service revenue. Last car we bought (end of 2020, right before car prices shot up), I planned to pay cash, already had a really great price. Sales team begged us to finance it, offered us another $1k off if we financed. “Can I just pay it off after?” “Yeah.” Done deal. Financed the purchase. First payment came due, and I paid the total about owed. But the sales guy probably got a $1500 loan origination commission in exchange for the $1k price break he gave me, so we both won.
  13. At this point, it is a credible theory. Putin has an unabashed interest in the United States being utterly destroyed. Putin owns Donald Trump (at this point, the circumstantial evidence -- including Trump's relentlessly destructive actions -- cannot be ignored) Is it the sure-fire guaranteed answer as to why Trump is doing what he's doing? No. Is it credible enough to merit real consideration? At this point, absolutely. If you were to create a truly effective plan to destroy the United States as a major power and functional Republic, it would look a whole lot like exactly what is happening right now.
  14. This. Truth and logical reasoning only pisses them off. Pain is the only language they speak. We should ensure that it is spoken in an ear-shattering yell.
  15. Yeah....I grab a few Lotto tickets from time to time, because 1) I'm not much of a gambler (seriously, I don't get any thrill out of it), but 2) hey, a chance to pocket $20 million+ is worth $5 every now and then. It's throw-away money on the chance to at least have the conversation of "what would we do if we won?" I won't be doing that again/anymore. It's apparent that the rigging that we know of is just the tip of the iceberg. Yeah, it's not possible to restore the integrity. There is no reason to have any faith that regular players actually have a shot at winning. At this point, if they dissolved the Texas Lottery, it would be the right decision. Of course, I have complete faith that Dan Patrick's threat was intended to coax some big donors who have lots to gain by continuing the rigged system into writing old Dan some big fat checks. The fat will get fatter, at the expense of the people. That is the guarantee.
  16. Dude. There is a 100X greater chance that he will be a member of the current presidential administration before the end of summer. Andrew Tate is what we are as a society, and is exactly what we deserve.
  17. - Bible verse on website or FB page - Any ad copy stating they are a "Christian-owned business" - The Jesus fish symbol ANYWHERE on their business materials, vehicles, etc. ANY of those three, and RUN AWAY, don't walk away, from doing business with them. Not just because they are MAGA (they almost certainly are), but because they will fuck you over in every possible way. Overcharge, not perform, lie about what they did, etc. etc. I have a friend who is a transactional attorney, and when she's doing due diligence and sees ANY of those features in a subcontract or somesuch, she flags that transaction/relationship for the client as a risk. And she doesn't sugarcoat it - "I've been around long enough that I have to tell you, these things are red flags indicating someone who's going to fuck you over."
  18. This fucking timeline. We're dealing with Schrodinger's Moron: he both said a particular thing, and did NOT say that particular thing. Whichever one of those you want to be true is the truth, regardless of what actually happened.
  19. Yep. The "END GENOCIDE NOW! SO VOTE FOR TRUMP!" crowd reminds me of my wife the time we heard, in the middle of the night, a predator killing a fawn outside our back window. "We have to do something!" I just told her to sit back down.....it'll be over soon. Hey Arabs for Trump who were SO worried about genocide that they voted for Trump....have no fear....it'll be over soon.
  20. There is. He’s very lonely.
  21. "How far we get" has nothing to do with convincing Ana not to be a disingenuous asshole. You might as well try to force the sun to rise in the west. Rather, "how far we get" relates to how we communicate with the audience of Ana and folks like him. Counter-programming and such.
  22. Counterpoint: I submit that it's actually quite important to continue to watch how the opposition works. Disingenuous POS propaganda dispensers like Ana are how they keep winning. Pay attention. See how they tick and how they work.
  23. Let me make it super clear for you as to how things are in Texas: 1) Parents, after informed conversations with a medical professional and acting on the advice of that medical professional, provide gender-affirming care to their child: 2) Parents, acting on the advice/posts of "patriotmagaunvaxxedandunafraid29" choose not to vaccinate their child, resulting in the child's DEATH? Any questions?
  24. This stuff is surprisingly good, and oil-free:
