  1. He will be told to leave... by other teams and likely his family and friends after they see the kind of money I expect gets thrown his way if he stays productive. Especially if Baxter is on pace to come back healthy and is showing no setbacks in his rehab this Spring. Eh whatever I'm done arguing this stupid shit. It makes no sense whatsoever to suggest that Texas would process out a quality RB when we are shallow there but if it for some reason satisfies some weird need of yours to believe that was my intent then by my guest. I corrected that misconception about a minute after my post in the first place.
  2. That was never my take. I never said anything about Texas processing Wisner and I honestly assumed it went without saying (and it should to anyone above a fucking room temp IQ) that I was referring to other teams throwing money at him. Honestly the idea of Texas processing Wisner is so incredibly idiotic that it simply never occurred to me as something my words could be interpreted as. I get this is Surly and being judgmental cunts is part of the fun. I opened myself up to that with poor phrasing 🤷‍♂️. I do still think the most likely outcome at RB is Wisner leaves for a payday and better chance at starting elsewhere and we go get some speed back to provide more of a change of pace (unless Nisbett really impresses the coaches).
  3. You seem to be mistaking my point. Wisner is good enough to start for a number of decent power conference teams. At the same time I'd argue Gibson is already better than him and Baxter, if he comes back anywhere close to 100%, is going to start for us next year either way. Maybe you took my 'encouraged to portal' as in he would get processed or something like that. I meant it as he is going to get encouraged to go take the money and be a starting RB somewhere instead of be RB3 or worse for us getting only a few touches a game. If he he keeps playing like he is and can stay healthy the opportunities will be out there.
  4. My expectation is that Wisner gets encouraged to go seek a larger role with a different program (he would be back in RB3 at absolute best duties with us next year if not lower on the depth chart) and we go get a speedier back to provide some variance to Gibson/Baxter in the Rb rotation.
  5. Anyone who doesn't want to end up also being ignored by like 90% of the 9.99er board gives a shit. You are right in that you can spam quote whoever you want but the result of that is going to be you joining those same ignore lists. Giving a poster who doesn't seem to have run into that moron before a quick heads up about that fact is hardly out of line.
  6. The number at WR should be zero unless Golden also moves on. It is possible he enters the draft but I haven't seen the same kind of projected buzz around him as I have with Bond. So far anyway. If Golden leaves I think that opens the door to adding someone but otherwise you have to feel really fucking good about a 2025 WR room with Wingo, Golden, Cook and Moore. Especially when both Lockett and Ffrench are likely going to be able to contribute meaningfully as first year players. TE is where I hope we go hunting for an elite player. Niblack is yet another useless pussy so bad at blocking he becomes a liability if he steps on the field. Didn't understand that take at all. Sark has a fetish for shitty weak TEs. I don't count him still being here in the future as a positive. Give me a big lumbering TE who can put someone on their ass and still somewhat reliably make a catch after posting up in space please. Would be huge for Arch in his first year to have that kind of security blanket. Maybe Washington and the others are developing nicely enough that we don't have to dip into the portal but it seems an obvious spot to pursue a top end player and buy those guys another season to develop. RB seems like an obvious one for one situation where if Blue or anyone else leaves we replace them in the portal. I don't see how you can go into next year with just Gibson, Wisner, Simon and two guys coming off major injury. If Blue moves on I think we add a guy even if its not some top end dude. I wouldn't hate seeing us pursue a Center. I get we like the internal options being groomed and developed behind Majors and ideally one of them would end up starting next year but it never hurts to have at least one experienced guy in that room. There tend to be a lot of pretty decent experienced centers in the portal every cycle looking to jump to bigger programs with better academics just so they can get that more impressive degree before being done with football. Grabbing one of those for depth would be sensible and not that costly. On defense the big one is ofc IDL with probably needing another two starter rotation quality guys from the portal. The rest of the defense honestly seems fine. LB should be in a great spot. Edge is going to be loaded even with Moore and Sorrell moving on. Honestly even if we lose an unexpected Edge to the portal I still think we are good there. We have guys coming in that can contribute in the rotation as freshman. CB and safety are likewise probably not 'needs' but if we see some true elite difference maker out there it never hurts to try and starfuck to improve the roster. Will be more about replacing any unwanted portal departures than anything else probably. TLDR version: RB: 1 if Blue leaves TE: 1 if we can find someone elite who isn't a massive useless pussy at blocking too. If we are going to hunt for a 'big ticket item' this cycle I'd prefer it be at TE honestly. OL: Maybe 1 experienced center just because that position being a mess can kill an entire team. Depth floor setting type. WR: 0 unless someone other than Bond and Bolden leave. If Golden or someone unexpected were to move on or portal out you would probably replace them one for one. IDL: 2 starter quality types even if we lose no one unexpected. Probably a third after we see who all departs. CB/NB/S: Probably a 'need' of 0 but as always if there is some badass difference maker out there at one of those spots you probably kick the tires. QB/Edge/LB: 0 unless something major and unexpected happens.
  7. Sharma heard that Texas is forming a women's beach volleyball team to meet the new scholarship balance and it sealed the deal.
  8. Look I get it. You probably felt it wasn't really political to just reference a comment someone else made that you felt was stupid. The inevitable result though is that person defending themselves, other morons getting involved because they can't fucking help themselves and it spiraling into a shit show that inevitably touches on political issues that 99% of us want nowhere near this board. That is why there is a zero tolerance "just shut the fuck up" policy on the recruiting board towards those topics. There has to be. Lets all just move the fuck on.
  9. If you want nothing but mindless praise for the program and sunshine pumping fucktardism I suggest https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/ might be your speed.
  10. Have some self respect. Don't tune into that bullshit. The kid decided to stall for attention after changing the time, twice, and it bit him with a leaked announcement. Fuck Moore, fuck Oregon and hopefully Sark will get pissed off enough by yet another blind side recruiting loss that he demotes that bitch Harris and gets a real GM type in place.
  11. Honestly don't give much of a fuck about losing out on Moore. Will be a great player but isn't going to a team we play and we still have a very good chance to land arguably the best WR haul in program history if we go hard for Lockett and Ffrench now. I'm more pissed about Brown/Charles etc. than I am Moore. We will be fine at WR.
  12. That was predicated on him picking Tech. Now that he is landing in Austin I bet he magically falls outside the top 50 in their next update without a single other factor having changed.
  13. I was debating which to go with but I think Maroon, in being a shade of red, would more easily make the mental connection to the reference when brought up without a direct GOT mention. Both work though. I also like the Schlossining as suggested just now above.
  14. We need to give this hallowed event a nickname and celebrate it yearly. Considering all their bitch ass comparisons to Game of Thrones.. maybe the Maroon Wedding?
  15. The Surly one should just replace the player grade with an image of either a chicken friend steak, a piece of bread or Charlie Strong's face depending on their quality.
  16. Personally I would remove state rank and make it positional rank. State rank isn't very helpful and national ranking outside the top ~50 doesn't really tell you much. "We just landed a commitment from XYZ who is the 235th ranked player!" isn't as helpful as "We just landed a commitment from XYZ who is the 12th ranked OT" for example. So long as you are including the composite grade like you currently are you just don't really need to know (and shouldn't really care) where sites have specifically slotted them compared to players at other positions.
  17. People around Miami are saying he has been going to classes and participating in workouts. They have no idea how he seemingly thinks he can still transfer somewhere else.
  18. Someone should remind Gerry that the rules were changed. Grad transfers had to be in the portal by the closing of the Spring window just like everyone else starting this year. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40022677/all-college-basketball-transfers-portal-1 Unless there is some loophole I am unaware of our options are limited to those players already in the portal and the pickings are slim to say the least.
  19. I am aware of that case and the NIL specific claims in it are mostly asinine. Unless Oregon was specifically limiting those female athletes from being able to use their NIL collective portal to seek opportunities they really have no case. There is no rational interpretation of the publicity sections within Title IX that would somehow mandate you spend the same amount in total on licensing deals for female athletes as male even if this were being directly handled by the university (which obviously was also not the case). You have to equally help all sides put their best foot forward and make deals but if they can't find deals (because they literally have no marketable value whatsoever) that is on them. The requirement of providing equal access was met. Obviously that is just my personal opinion on the matter though and I'm sure many disagree.
  20. Just to provide additional clarity and information to those that are curious about the settlement: Where the fuck did that 22M number come from? That 22M figure being thrown around is such because the average power conference athletic program's revenues have been 100M over the past few years. So 22% of the 100M = a 22M cap. That number will adjust naturally based on how power conference revenues fluctuate each year. They decided upon 22% because scholarship costs and other athlete benefits currently come out to being about 28% of your average power conference program's revenue. Scholarships being around 16M. So they didn't just pull the 22% number out of their ass; it pushes the split of athletic program revenue going to athletes to be roughly an even split at 50%. There are also some built in escalators where the cap increases by like 4% each year but it was confusing how they worded it. It sounds like that is a 4% increase over the actual dollar amount (the 22M) rather than meaning that in year two it would become 26% of the average revenue. I assume that yearly 4% increase in the actual dollar value of the cap is done to combat inflation. Will Title IX apply? Short answer is no. Not if the schools involved are smart. All that matters is that the funds equaling that 22% end up in the pockets of players. The method used is irrelevant to the terms of the settlement. The loophole that has essentially been created here in conjunction with the ruling of protected NIL rights for athletes is that schools can enter into likeness usage agreements with specific players and essentially pay them whatever they view to be fair. Title IX has no involvement in this. If Texas thinks that using the likeness of Ewers to advertise our program justifies giving him 3 million a year we can do so. Without issue. It doesn't mandate we then find some female athletes or members of other sports and likewise buy their rights for equal total amount. There are plenty of people on Surly who can explain this better than I can but I imagine they are probably keeping tight lipped about how Texas specifically plans to attack this issue until it is actually in motion. The NCAA's stance on the issue so far has been strongly against Title IX having any application to compensation of these athletes and that so long as equal opportunity is provided for male and female athletes to show their value to the program Title IX is satisfied. Really we won't have a concrete answer till the department of education rules on it but pretty much every competent lawyer who specializes in that area seems to think regardless of if Title IX is mandated to apply it will quickly be struck down in a court challenge.
  21. This change is going to be bad for Texas initially. Our advantage in NIL is not going to come anywhere close to making up for the shortfall we will face comparative to teams that specialize their funding in specific sports. Football will be fine and likely maintain its edge but our other sports are a bit fucked. Imagine how Vanderbilt will approach the revenue sharing. What are their options? Put 10M towards a football team with no players worth paying and no hopes of winning either way? Or do they go put 15M towards baseball and a build a super team filled with a dozen future first round picks? Even if they still do put a few million towards football, basketball and women's athletics to take care of the few high quality kids they have the lion share of that funding is going to the one sport in which they can actually compete. There are plenty of other baseball focused programs out there that can do the same. Even non power conference programs that only have 10-12M total to disperse can double the realistic budget Texas will have for baseball as we struggle to try and take care of all the major sports at once. Texas is not going to become one of the poors but we aren't going to be anywhere close to that top tier of baseball spender. Same deal with basketball. Texas might at most put how much towards basketball? 3-4 million tops? Yes we can supplement that with NIL and we have had tremendous support for the basketball program recently but it isn't going to make up the gap between ourselves and those who make that sport their top priority. I'm not even talking the blue bloods that kick our ass in recruiting and the portal anyway. A school like Indiana for example can easily justify and afford to put 10-12M a year of that 21M cap into just basketball. Even if we can double our direct school budget for the sport with NIL it isn't going to give us an edge any longer. Not when you have a couple dozen mid tier programs putting that same amount into the pot due to direct school funding and prioritization. In the long run Texas will have much healthier athletic program but in the short term you are going to have a bunch of new bidders suddenly able to compete at the same level as you for mercenary recruits and portal talent. Even football will not go unscathed. Lets say we put a few million into basketball, a bit into baseball and the obligatory million or two into women's athletics that optics will require. Sure we might still be left with ~15M going towards football but there are programs like OU that will probably put basically the entire 21M just into football. We literally watched them pillage their women's athletics NIL fund in order to get Williams secured a few weeks ago. Football will still in great financial shape for us but this change is going to cut into our edge we have over teams that just currently can not compete with us due to a lack of NIL funding. They will just sacrifice other sports to try to close the gap. TLDR Football at Texas will be fine but sports like basketball and baseball are absolutely fucked once this revenue sharing begins and a lot of teams just decide to focus on one specific sport other than football. In the long run I fully expect some stricter guidelines in place as to how that revenue gets distributed, to make sure most of it goes to football (who actually generates the damn revenue) but until that happens it is going to be absolutely wild watching certain teams be bold and just specialize into a single sport to try and buy titles while the window of opportunity exists.
  22. Iirc someone was pointing out during the draft that the entire CB room had a significant increase in their PFF coverage grading under Parker. I know he was being connected to some other jobs earlier this cycle. Strong hire for a school that probably doesn't care much about the recruiting side and needs to lean on ability to develop to get talent there anyway.
  23. We give a fuck about the extra minutes of our lives wasted wading through your boring tedious idiotic off topic rambling on here. We do NOT give a fuck about the content of that rambling. It isn't a difficult concept to understand. Or at least it shouldn't be. Considering you and others lack the basic social awareness to realize this isn't an appropriate venue for you to be spewing your life story bullshit in the first place I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
