  1. I think we are safe if Thompson wins the battle. In that case Card knows either (1) Thompson plays great and may end up going pro after just the one year or (2) At worst he is waiting till his JR year with a solid chance of taking the gig immediately if Thompson shows the same inconsistency in games he has so far in practices. If Card wins who the fuck knows. If we do lose Thompson to the portal you would think SOMEONE out there would be happy to slide right on in and fight for the backup job knowing they would be one snap away from starting at Texas.
  2. Reached right for Stanford hat. At least he didn't play any stupid fuckery games with the grab.
  3. Yeah but he is right handed so its natural to reach across the body and snag the Stanford hat. To grab the Texas one he would have to either reach over or weirdly snake his arm around the frame. On a side note it is fucking amazing to actually care enough about this program again to be analyzing how some non-critical recruit may or not may not have positioned his hats
  4. Definitely stanford. Reaching for that Texas hat around the picture frame would be awkward as fuck
  5. Drayton probably just saw that Bear Alexander to Georgia commitment and couldn't believe the giant brass balls on those flagrant cheating fucks lol Nah really though I'd have to think its LJ related or else its rather tone deaf to make vague insinuating tweets on signing day when you are in the final 2 for a high end RB while not being actively involved in the recruitment for any other players still on the board.
  6. How do these numbers compare to when they still had Tua or more mobility at the QB position under Sark? I know we won't be using our fucking QB as a RB2 like the Turtle but I would think if Thompson is QB there will still be a decent number of designed runs (at least a handful of a game) worked in to keep defenses honest. Might cut down on the total available carries some. Just food for thought edit: I could be way over estimating the elusiveness and running ability of Thompson as well; freely admit that
  7. Banks on offense. I see no one else rushing out the door. Coleman, Milwee and Flood could use time to cook under Sark before juicier offers come in and Drayton is happy here with his kids growing up. Banks... It is rare to see a ST/TE non-playcalling coordinator jump directly into a HC position but if we are successful I could see a non-P5 program like Houston or SMU going for Banks were they to become available. We just saw it with Marshal and the Bama RB coach. Sometimes a good recruiter with solid connections to build a staff is more important than having a guy who actually runs one side of the ball. On defense.. fucking hell. Everyone but PK could be out the door within the next few years. PK has shown zero aspirations for being a HC so I think he sticks but Choate could be out the door next winter. Maybe he waits for two full recruiting cycles to pad his resume and land a better gig (or perhaps skip the DC route and jump directly into a HC role again). Joseph is openly ambitious and salty as fuck he didn't get the ND gig so I expect the first decent full DC gig that comes calling will lure him away. Davis is an odd one.. not as familiar with his ambitions or potential lack thereof. I would think biggest risk with Davis is simply him deciding the NFL was more fun to coach in? Gideon isn't going anywhere any time soon unless he is a disaster coaching safeties and we 'help' him find another gig somewhere else. TLDR Banks on offense is only guy I see leaving within next few years unless Drayton just gets some silly offer. On defense... everyone but PK could leave as soon as next winter and it wouldn't surprise me.
  8. PK has said many times in the past that he can coach any of the front 7. He just sort of defaulted into OLBs but I doubt he would have any issue moving over to focus more on ILBs if we get someone like Tosh who is more comfortable with OLB. He definitely had a direct hand in coaching and controlling all LBs not just OLBs (more so than just the general way a DC has a hand in everything).
  9. I envy the lucky mother fuckers who went to bed before the Mike Stoops news broke and wake up / check the internet after its already been refuted. They will never know the emotional scars us survivors of the ~10 hour 'Mike Stoops LB coach' tenure will carry for the rest of our lives.
  10. Yes. Iirc it was basically that Oregon DC gig and the Cowboys DL gigs were probably the only two openings realistically there for Tosh better than simply being our Co-DC / LB coach. Both from a pay standpoint and from a "what puts him on the path to being a HC?" (his end goal). His previous issue at Bama was a failure to properly understand passing defenses and not being a great playcaller. He could now, in theory, join a staff with one of the best modern playcallers alive (PK) AND one of the most respected passing defense scheme minds in football (Joseph). So for many reasons we are an extremely attractive landing spot for Tosh. I've seen a lot of people take it for granted he could just land another position coach gig in the NFL but those mostly come through direct connections with current DCs / HCs and his last HC is now a DC who didn't want to hire him as DL coach for the Cows so its far from a given he would even have an NFL gig to consider vs taking the Texas job.
  11. Agreed. This hire would be so immediately toxic to recruiting, especially when we are currently trying to attract LBs through the portal.... no way they would let this float for ever a few hours if fake. It did break late but only like 1030; hardly middle of the night. SOMEONE would have been spamming their contacts to push out 'this is not true' if it were wrong. Also the timing of this coming out fits- cowardly fucks decided to slide it in at the end of the cycle I guess hoping they banked enough positivity they could get away with it? Or they simply wanted to avoid having 10 high profile zoom calls where the first question is "How could you hire that fucking retard?" I guess there is some tiny chance this was being intentionally leaked to gauge the fan/player reactions but that is likely a pipe dream.
  12. I wasn't following things as closely during the infamous "I'll drag my feet so I can slip in Watson" debacle but this has to be worse, right? I mean the initial reports all said Mike Stoops and we never once were credibly linked to an ILB name otherwise until the past few days. Seemed clear from the jump we were never keeping Hutzler, too. So if you accept that Stoops was always the name you have to look at the timing of this as being abhorrently cowardly. Like he waits till after all the Zoom calls where he knew parents, former players, BMDs, etc would all absolutely fucking destroy him for the Stoops hire and then tries to drop it in at the 11th hour. Cowardly, dickless move. Even if you disagree about how bad a Mike Stoops hire might be the way it came about like this, waiting and waiting to sneak it in, is fucking pathetic.
  13. Fuck Mike Stoops. Fuck Sark. Fuck all the goddamn morons in our administration who somehow failed to stop this. How could you EVER think that hiring the jackass retarded Stoops brother is going to be okay?? How the fuck do you let a good, well liked, respected LB coach go out the door so you can hire that fucking retard in the first place??? Just fuck every decision maker involved in this and fuck every pussy ass suit who didn't stop it. No wonder we didn't manage to close the deal on the better options- this dumb fuck Sark was just trying to pull a Charlie all along and sneak in Stoops through the backdoor. Watson 2.0.
  14. He was a pretty good OLB coach for his three years at Bama and the way PK's system works there is quite a bit of overlap with usually one of the OLBs on the field playing at the edge position (often two). PK teaches OLBs at Wash but can just as easily focus on ILB instead as he himself has said in the past. I tend to think the Lupoi ship has sailed and there are plenty of other really good options likely less to meddle / interfere with PK doing his thing but from a positional coaching standpoint Lupoi actually fits nicely into the hole we have.
  15. I don't want him anywhere near the program. He was joined with Sark at the hip during the worst of his antics and so far at least we have managed to create a staff that is free of old Sark associates / enablers from his black out drunk days. Nansen is a good coach, fits our need at ILB, solid recruiter.. all that resume shit fits... but why take the risk? Too many good options there that do not have a shared history of enabling / covering for Sark when he was at his absolute worst.
  16. I think they were being sarcastic. Like how if FCB puts something out there we immediately go "well we know THAT isn't happening". So this guy saying "It is a done deal" had that poster sarcastically saying "oh well relax then because no ways its true"
  17. Whoever rounds out the defensive staff really needs to be a great recruiter. Davis is great but Gideon is a complete unknown (I expect him to develop into a great one with all his Texas HS ties but it'll take time), Joseph is an okay recruiter but nothing special, and Peter K is generally considered a non-factor in recruitment beyond simply guys wanting to play for his defense. So we just go hire the best recruiter we can find who coaches LBs or CBs and call this bitch done?
  18. The timing of this makes me certain we were just waiting out the Pruitt situation. There was always a chance he wouldn't directly get tied into the scandal or they would be lesser infractions not full on Level 1 shit. Instead he gets fired for cause and that pretty much makes him radioactive and then BOOM we pivot to an excellent Option B in Peter K. We still get to wildly speculate about who the final position coach will be at least for now.
  19. Yeah that "currently has a really good job" line makes me think it is NOT Tim Deyruter. Maybe I need to change my guess. Obviously it is subjective and maybe TFB just has a very positive outlook on the world but I consider Cal a third tier program in a conference that hasn't sniffed consistent relevance in a decade. I wouldn't call that a really good gig. Compared to like fucking UNT sure but in a general sense? Nah. Even if you disagree about Cal's stature, Deruyter is currently in a somewhat awkward position as his HC Wilcox seems to be increasingly favoring Sirmon as his right hand guy instead.
  20. Someone needs to leak that we are targeting Elko just to fuck with the Aggers before national signing day. Can we deepfake a picture of him playing fetch with Bank's monkey?
  21. That specific part about the Arnett being Sark's favorite but not a big enough name has to be absolute bullshit right? Surely we are not so fucking stupid as a program to allow the money folks any say whatsoever in the coordinator hire. I mean its one thing to give them sway over the HC search when they are being asked to write so many checks. It is even reasonable for them to put their foot down and be like "No, you cannot hire the retard crackhead Stoops brother" but to think they could reject a name like Arnett is absurd. My guess remains DeRuyter. Kind of threw it out as a blind guess after they first mentioned the mystery guy and the way they describe him here as "a bigger name with more of a track record but still not a HUGE name" fits. I think it will be a brutally underwhelming hire and a step back from Ash but not like a Watson-tier debacle if correct.
  22. Hire Pruitt as DC then throw like 1.8M at Raymond to be Co-DC / CBs coach. Take whatever is left of that war chest and throw it at the compliance team to make sure Pruitt and Raymond get approved 😂
  23. I wouldn't think Ansley qualifies as mystery candidate but maybe TFB are just being really lame. He has definitely been talked about with connection to UT before by some insiders just not as much lately. Schumann is a damned interesting name. Not sure how I would react to that hire.. would be extremely risky but high upside. If we were going that way I would think we just go Arnett who at least has a proven track record? Weird to see that article so bluntly call him a favorite for Texas when no one around Texas afaik has mentioned him before now. Doesn't mean they are wrong- just odd.
