  1. my brain: This will probably be something thoroughly underwhelming like DeRuyter.... Surly discussed him a lot but insiders really haven't so I tend to think he would qualify. Cal defense is entirely run by their HC Wilcox and this would be a C-tier hire at best but if this mystery thing isn't bullshit that is my blind guess. my heart: WE GIVING VENABLES 4M A YEAR LETS GOOOO BRING ON THAT TINY TROLL FACED FUCK
  2. You have to read between the lines. TFB isn't saying we are going to hire a mystery candidate. They are saying our candidate is a man of mystery. Its a hint.
  3. The ONLY reason I'm not going to immediately call bullshit on this is due to the fact that Allen's career has stalled out in the NFL. Five solid years as Saints DC and he isn't sniffing HC interviews or getting much buzz at all for openings. If anything his star has dimmed a bit. Plus he will always have that awful time as Raider HC weighing against him... So is this almost certainly insider horseshit with them just throwing out NFL guys that could, in theory, explain the delay in the DC hiring process? Absolutely. But could Allen potentially view college as the only place he will ever be a HC again? And a couple years as Texas DC a prime way to get a cushy college job ASAP? I mean.. yeah, in theory.
  4. her monkey has a conceal carry permit so no need to worry about PoleAssassin
  5. I know I'm a bit late to the discussion but since people seem genuinely confused: Director of player personnel: (Chang's old role now filled by Hughes) This is the married friend who identifies all the hot fuckable women who will be at the party and warns you which ones are crazy and which ones have herpes Director of recruiting: (Carrington) This is the female friend who plays wingman and helps talk up the single friend to the non-crazy / preferably disease free fuckable women Coaches: The single friend who actually has to close the deal and gets to fuck Carrington has very little say/role in actually identifying the targets just as the personnel director has basically no role in trying to close on them. Evaluate Carrington by *how many targets walk through the door and evaluate Hughes by which targets were given the invitations. Two very different roles.
  6. No thanks. I don't want anyone from the BiG. The BiG is the special Olympics of power conferences. Sure their coaches might look good on defense but its only because they are going up against actual fucking retards. The only halfway decent offense in that conference is OSU and even they are up and down more often than not. Is he probably a great coach? Sure. Will someone like Hippo probably come along and fart out a lot of advanced metrics to say this is a terrible take? Probably and fair enough if they do... but I personally only want a coach who has shown at least SOME semblance of competence actually having faced offenses like they will in the big 12. That narrows down the candidate pool drastically but it shouldn't stop us from still finding someone who is actually used to facing elite athlete and not corn fed white people who run a 4.8 up and down the other side of the field.
  7. I swear at this point Sark is just hiring anyone he can find with direct Muschamp ties in order to troll fans. He has not been personally linked to the scandal AFAIK (at least nothing public indicates as much) and he would not be personally responsible for a lack of oversight or anything like what will probably land on Pruitt once the NCAA wades in.
  8. I've seen several mentions that Pruitt has been on the phone and potentially even flying out to do in person visits with some people this weekend to smooth concerns about his situation and make sure folks know he is coming back and nothing has changed. There is even buzz around Fake-UT that one of the other coaches is likely going to be the fall guy and Pruitt will stay. Could be nothing but all round there seems to be a definitive tonal shift following the Pruitt meetings with the investigators and school lawyers on Thursday/Friday that would imply he is likely staying. Or in the very least HE thinks he is staying.
  9. Okay so lets assume you are not trolling and making an honest point: it is still a bad one. Bo Davis is someone you kill to have on your staff and any DC who wouldn't want him is an actual fucking retard we should never hire anyway. If we had delayed his hiring by even days he would have ended up at any of the dozens of other places in college and the NFL killing to have him. Joseph was a similar deal; either snatch him then or miss out. He wasn't going to be available by the title game let alone now when we still haven't made the DC hire. The only other member of the defensive staff, and the only one that is arguably a questionable hire, is Gideon. In retrospect had we known Banks was coming it is likely we would not have pressed so hard to get him as quickly as we did but he had plenty of offers out there and likely would not have been available. Considered a rising star, fuck tons of connections with HS coaches (something Texas badly needs to repair) and a lot of people our decision makers respect consider him basically 'the next great up and coming defensive coach'. Plus you really need at least one guy on staff who actually knows what its like to be a student at the program itself and he fits that bill as well. TLDR You have to be actually fucking retarded to take issue with Bo Davis or Joseph hires, DC in place or not, and Gideon made a ton of sense at the time (and still does) as well. DC can still bring along one underling.
  10. The "Quinn has offered Lupoi the DL job in Dallas" is, at least, actually an update we haven't heard before. Only realistic scenario for Lupoi to end up at Texas involved every notable college gig refusing him primary DC duties (which is actually likely to happen) and then no good NFL openings being out there so that his best landing spot would be Co-DC / non-playcaller at Texas. If that Dallas DL coach gig is real, working under a guy he was already working for in Quinn... Lupoi talk to Texas can probably die for good.
  11. At this point they are 'hitting' on so many A+ hires that I completely agree; if the biggest question mark we come out of this hiring phase with is "only Gideon and Joseph to coach secondary?" they will still have done a remarkably good job and deserve the benefit of the doubt. The feedback on Joseph is inconsistent anyway. Agger feelings on Joseph (dating back to before we hired him so not stained by just their typical salty retardation) seem to be he was an excellent recruiter but terrible at player development. ND is kind of the opposite; lots of praise for his development of safeties but concerns he isn't a great recruiter (I blame ND being a shitty pretentious playground for pedophiles that kids don't want to leave the south the play for, personally). Everyone seems to agree he has a great 'football IQ' and should help us developing defensive schemes against Big 12 offenses, though.
  12. The perception of him as a CB coach seems to be fairly shit, though, based on his prior stops before ND. Is much more well regarded when it comes to developing safeties. Hard to tell how much of that is reality vs how much is just retroactive 'oh yeah he sucks' after he left those programs or now that he has gone to Texas though. Maybe he will be the kind of player developmental ace our secondary has been sorely lacking for.. a decade, basically, and I just need to stop worrying about it.
  13. Would normally assume all of this is bullshit but now that he is the CDC chosen mouthpiece.. have to say his explanation for the Golding situation actually makes a lot of sense. Certainly more any of the other floated scenarios or explanations as to why the fuck the coaching search is taking so long at DC / who is involved. Hoping he is at least wrong about us potentially hiring a second DL guy to be DE/OLB and DC to do ILB. Really feels like a predictable disaster if we only have Joseph and Gideon handling the secondary and no one with a positive track record working with CBs.
  14. We would have to be damned confident that he was not directly involved in whatever shady shit took place. Lack of oversight I think we would swallow, considering Pruitt's god tier status as a DC and recruiter.. plus with his failing so miserably at Fake-UT he probably sticks here for quite some time at DC. That might make the risk more worthwhile. Not something I expect to happen from his side or ours but holy fuck he is an A+++ hire. Realistically this is just a "If the new Bama OC is fucking stupid enough to not want Banks, we will hire him" situation but I really can't see Saban allowing whoever comes in to kick their best offensive recruiter to the curb. Luckily at the TE role, and with Giddeon on staff able to do ST, we can afford to wait it out.
  15. So how exactly does a Show Cause work? If Pruitt gets hit by one can we just make the NCAA panel watch tape of our defense over the last 8 seasons until they finally relent and are like 'Fucking hell, yeah you guys need to hire him"?
  16. Can't edit anymore~ meant Ansley, not Ayers. I always mix up those two names.
  17. I would love it but this sounds extremely far fetched. Isn't he going to get caught up in all the bullshit with their investigation and scandal? If Pruitt is even an option you throw a blank fucking check at him and Ayers (to come be his co-DC / CB coach) and you call if a done fucking deal. Even if you have to blow apart the coordinator pay record by a cool mill. Just not sure the Fake-UT shit will be resolved quickly enough for us to be able to wait and see how it plays out.
  18. Nothing new on coaching search at all. Milwee, Joseph, and Gideon are on campus but those were all basically confirmed anyway. Flood is flying in today/tonight. Bo Davis is ALSO on campus which is nice to see because there had been chatter this weekend he might weigh other options. Sark meeting wish Boulware (surprising because most of us thought he was fired?) and Giles today. hopefully just to offer them analyst positions.
  19. Did anyone go into the plane afterwards to confirm it was empty? Maybe Golding, Wiggins and Flood are hiding in the bathroom waiting for the right moment to spring themselves upon Austin. (that guy had called the Sark hiring like on Dec 20th so I was somewhat hopeful that MAYBE he wasn't absolutely full of shit when he posted the airplane thing but looks like it was just BS guesswork as expected)
  20. I'm going to just assume that Arnett was there as a secret agent using the pretense of an LSU interview to meet Raymond and see if they can co-exist at Texas.
  21. To join Meyer in the NFL (if that happens)? Yes. To go be co-DC in FU with that shitty Grantham? Hell no.
  22. I think Golding was only ever going to happen if Pruitt was fired by Fake-UT and avoided catching a show cause or otherwise getting caught up in the stink of that scandal. Sounds like Pruitt is absolutely fucked and fully implicated in whatever nonsense they had going on down there, though. Minor silver lining with Arnett is if LSU is trying this hard to get him maybe they bend and let him bring that CB coach? Even if they won't force him out it might make them bid a bit less hard to keep him anyway.
