  1. It's funny. I started this process with Banks as probably my #1 desired assistant hire for Sark to land because of his recruiting prowess but now I just want him here for the pet monkey and stripper GF memes
  2. Maybe the delay to Wednesday is a construction crew installing several in their new home in Austin?
  3. Packing a pet monkey into a Uhaul is probably annoying so I'm taking this is direct confirmation Banks is coming to Texas!!
  4. He can be Sean Peyton's assistant when he joins Texas as an analysts
  5. So even more conflicting bullshit between the clueless insiders. Yesterday it was all "If we can't get Quinn, Arnett is the clear number 2 guy!" and well we sure as fuck are not getting Quinn. The way you know this is bullshit is because even if you Do want Golding over Arnett you are probably still in the very least sending Arnett exploratory dick picks right now and hedging your bets. Chances are too high that Golding will change his mind, or Satan will somehow find a way to fuck us
  6. Enough to leave the best DC job in the country under the best coach in the country where he has the most talent in the country and has a chance to potentially establish himself as HCIW with Sark now out of the picture? He and Sark must sure be soul mates if that happens. You are right, though; the language I used was perhaps overly demonstrative in saying the only reason he would leave Bama is a firing or Saban retirement. I should have said the only remotely plausible reason for him to leave is that he gets fired and we become his soft landing spot.
  7. Saban isn't 'Allowing' anything. Sark left on his own and the only coach actually likely to be coming with him on the offensive side of the ball is Flood (who would pick Sark over Saban, Saban's wishes be damned, because he is a Sark guy to start with). If we end up with Golding it is because Saban is firing his ass. No other reason. Golding is not picking Texas over Bama, or Sark over Saban, or any other nonsense. The only way he becomes available is if Saban is tired of having to score 60 points every time he plays a good team because Golding can't stop the spread. That doesn't make Golding a bad hire, he would still be an improvement over what we've had, it just makes him not as good as what Saban thinks he can get (likely Muschamp in that scenario though I will be ungodly salty if we take Golding only for Saban to turn around and hire Arnett)
  8. Well apparently what you do is find a slow kid dating a 6 and have him start fucking the 8 so you can feel less bad about getting with the 10.
  9. Its an inside joke with a Bama friend who always says it with an F (because Fuck Lupoi) kinda like our FCB, and its gotten the point where I just legitimately had a brain fart and didn't realize I still using the wrong spelling on here, too LOL
  10. Yeah but it was still an objectively worse decision to promote Lufoi than our decision to hire Beck. Lufoi had to be stripped of his DC duties in all but name like 3 weeks into the season with Saban just doing it himself to get through that stretch. Really pointless for us to argue about that though because I actually agree with you on Golding. He seems to be a very good coach and we could do far worse.
  11. Well he employed Lufoi as a DC and Lufoi was far worse as a DC than Beck was an OC. So literally yes in answer to your question. edit: to be clear I actually rather like Golding. Much prefer Arnett since I think he is a 'yes' we could get right now and avoid the damned drama or risk of having to reach for a C tier guy, but Saban is definitely not infallible when it comes to promoting the wrong guys up within his team.
  12. This is what its going to look like on the sideline every time we get a pick:
  13. Huh? The TFB update only mentions Freeman in the context that Ash to LSU is now a possibility that Freeman has passed on them. Perhaps you are talking about a different update than I.
  14. Arnett is a LB coach by trade I believe so he would definitely handle that unit. He also probably doesn't need two DL coaches in his system. Its a flex 3-3-5 that he does change up week to week but I'd think having Davis - DL, Arnett - LB, Joseph - Safeties / Passing D Cord, ??? - CBs (pls be Raymond) and then Gideon as ST / helper with LBs and nickels would make a ton of sense. Adequately covers the secondary and still lets you go get a rainmaker at TE. edit: Oh, I would just as happily take Ansley as Co-DC (non-primary) coaching CBs if that report about him wanting out at Fake-UT is true. Raymond would be the sexy hire but Ansley is very damn good himself assuming we are confident he's clean of their scandal.
  15. Have we actually had a TE coach the past decade? I haven't been able to tell
  16. Yeah there is no reason to believe those 'reports' at all if they are even swirling. He was well regarded at Akron and then spend some tutoring under his mentor, arguably the best current offensive mind in football, at Bama.. there is no fucking way Ark St wouldn't want him unless they discovered some massive red flag we are unaware of.
  17. Yeah but we also played OU before Rattler broke out and unless I'm mistaken they were still missing that beast of a RB right? OU was a completely different team in the second half of the season really starting from after our game. Not disagreeing with any of your overall points but that is context that shouldn't be ignored when considering our performance against OU. Rattler went from looking brain dead to like a superstar in that overtime period and carried that momentum forward. With regards to that TFB blurb: Golding is a solid coach but I do not love the optics of hiring a guy Bama has just fired (which would be the case if they bring in Muschamp) especially when that guy is someone with close relationship to the dude making the hire. Can we just please stop being the fucking program that gives 'soft landings' to all the premium schools' throw away trim? Not saying Golding would not or should not be the guy, just saying I don't want to hear all the bullshit that will come with it. I have to imagine that 'Arnett may not pick Texas after Joseph hire' part is absolute nonsense though. Surely we are not so fucking stupid as to eliminate one of our top two choices by rushing to make a position coach hire we had no reason to rush. Have to think that was viewed as a fit with all our DC options or it wouldn't have happened
  18. This. Especially with Sark having been vocal both in the past and recently how much he likes the 3-3-5 (and most guys we are talking about as DC can run variations of it) it would be full on clown fiesta to go into 2021 with no coaches on staff that actually specialize in coaching CBs.
  19. I guess to stop the players from being worried about whose coaching them next year (if the replacement isn't ready to announce) instead of focusing on the game? I'm not sure I really believe that myself though. Realistically its probably a situation where Sark would like to hire Golding but Golding is only going to leave if Bama can find a suitable replacement, perhaps even Muschamp who would forgo his planned year off to work with Satan again, or something like that. Could be moving pieces where we think its Golding but he isn't ready to firmly commit until everything is in place. I hope its not that scenario though because that leaves us with a high chance of our asses hanging out in the wind if he just stays there.
  20. I was starting to believe that the insiders might actually have a pretty good feel for how this search was going with all the names and buzz about specific assistants getting thrown around but that Joseph hire coming from absolutely nowhere makes me think they are just as full of shit as always and we 100% should not trust the 'Davis, Raymond, etc' talk.
  21. Starting to make me a believer in the Golding theory but I just don't see how he leaves Bama unless he is getting fired and I can't see why Sark would want to hire a guy Satan has lost faith in. Square peg, round hole type situation there... but it definitely seems like Golding being the dude makes the most sense as to why its so quiet yet positional hires are happening. I don't think he did any actual recruiting for Bama in his role as analyst but people have said previously he is really good at communicating his vision for an offense and QB to croots. Not sure what that is worth, if anything, but those comments came from some Akron guys I know who were always impressed with him /shrug
  22. For thinking that we shouldn't hire Peter fucking Sirmon as DC? Stop being a retarded pussy. Settling for bullshit like a Sirmon hire when he has no practical experience being 'the guy' and no experience even being 'the second in command' of a major program's defense is how you backslide from a national contender into... whatever the fuck we currently are. Take your own advice.
  23. That would be a fairly dog shit fallback. You don't hire the third-in-command guy at a PAC school who doesn't face anything really close to the kind of offenses we face 3-4 times a year on a regular basis. I don't even think Sirmon calls defensive plays for Cal. That is the kind of hire you make at Tech. That is the kind of bullshit hire Charlie Strong would have to make because no one else would agree to work with him. Sirmon being our showrunning DC would be a catastrophic failure of the process and I'll keep repeating that no matter how many times I get negged or shouted down every time he gets brought up.
  24. I think people who are hating the Joseph hire hate the idea of him coaching corners. He isn't a CB coach. He has always (or at least for past few years) been a safeties coach and isn't supposedly all that great at player development. So great at game planning and a very good recruiter, sure, but if its just him and Gideon running what has been an ass secondary for most of the last decade that would be an alarm bells ringing situation. All that said- I'm like 99% sure we will hire another CB coach and none of the above is relevant.
  25. Yeah and advanced stats don't do a fucking thing to show us whether a DC is capable of coming up with a plan that can stop a passing attack like OU. Nor does it show whether a DC can adjust their scheme on a regular basis because they are facing a handful of solid offensive coaches a year that will exploit them if they just do the same thing vs Cal where you play like one damn team that doesn't blow gaping assholes on offense an entire season. That isn't even getting into the still-subjective nature by which quality of opponent is even assigned in the first place for those advanced metrics as there is a fundamental lack of cross-conference play that would be required to accurately gauge such a thing on a regular year-to-year basis. Even going beyond all of that I still point out that Sirmon is the third damn guy in the pecking order on that defense and elevating someone from third in command of the defense to Cal to running the show at Texas would be an absurdly questionable hire. Not that I think it will happen.
