  1. Williams means a hell of a lot more to Auburn than he does us. Huge optics win for them if they can pull it off and a giant direct fuck you to Bama. Also gives them a real shot as they try to flip Lacey. Put all that together and it is just very hard for me to imagine Texas offering anything close to what Auburn likely will. It is like how Texas viewed Simmons this cycle. We weren't going to let ourselves be beat out even if things became unreasonable. Auburn is that way with Williams. But they are also... Auburn. So maybe we have a chance. I really doubt it personally.
  2. What details are you even talking about? Literally the only thing known at this point is that the extension is four years. That was in the text of the announcement tweet itself (posted above). There are no additional details to post or anything worth discussing until we get the actual details which is unlikely until the BOR formally approve it and it gets released to the public.
  3. I would say it is more equivalent to some girl who hangs around hoping you might one day throw them a pity fuck gaining self respect and trying to find herself a boyfriend only to realize being your backup low tier side hoe is actually the best she could do for herself. The spouse analogy implies a level of importance to OSU that Rodgers simply doesn't have.
  4. I try to make it a habit of not wishing harm on others but after the last few pages I desperately hope the brakes on some of your rascal mobility scooters go out and you sail into oncoming traffic.
  5. No way that is true. They would surely just promote Grubb to HC before going with Kilff right? If not they deserve what is coming their way. If I were Washington I am going and stealing Smith from Michigan St. That dude is a fantastic coach who has proven he can win against much better rosters for years (and without it being due to just one lucky break at QB or one set of players). I get it would be bad optics for a guy to leave after just a month but the Washington job is so much better than Michigan St you take the hit and do it imo. edit: he was Peteron's OC at Washington for that great run they had between '14 and '17 before he got the Oregon St HC job. For those who don't know who I am talking about.
  6. I was pissed last year when we didn't chase him though it did sound like he was locked to Washington before hitting the portal. Not sure CB is a big enough need to justify what he would likely cost considering our situation at DT and TE right now (and safety if Barron does decide to declare) though. Jabbar is certainly better than Brooks but he will cost a fortune.
  7. Well fuck. Was really hoping they would whiff on Deboer and have to settle with Norvell or even more hilariously an option below that. Still a lot better than having to recruit directly against Saban.
  8. https://x.com/jedsparty/status/1745273898172657934?s=20 edit: Not sure why the tweet isn't displaying and the video is basically crashing because so many people are trying to watch it so I'll just say it~ Eugene, Oregon local news reporting on air that Lanning is already in Tuscaloosa having meetings with Bama.
  9. It actually looks like Tosh was handling LBs this year at Oregon anyway. I could have sword he was working with the DL. So yeah much more likely he would just remain in that spot and they might retain Roach. Damn.
  10. Worth noting but if Lanning is the hire at Bama you can be basically certain he will bring Tosh Lupoi with him to stay in that DL / DC role under him. That displaces Roach who is one of the few DL coaches in the country that I would view as a similar quality replacement for Davis. His time at Bama did briefly overlap with Sark. edit: It looks like Lupoi was actually already working with LBs at Oregon this year. My mistake.
  11. Lots of buzz now that the choice is Lanning and could be finalized tonight. I really wonder how much interest Kelly would have in Oregon and Oregon would have in Kelly. We might still get the absolutely delicious drama of Jimbo -> LSU buzz even without the Michigan domino falling.
  12. I've been hearing Minter more recently than Moore. Either way though it seems likely they go with an internal option if Harbaugh leaves. That said... I wonder if Kelly would be of interest to Oregon were Lanning to take the Bama job.
  13. Within seconds of seeing this news breaking I was already texting my Aggie buddies "That pussy Saban was so scared of Sark joining the SEC he retired". The responses have been glorious.
  14. Going to be very interesting to see whether Bama prioritizes Kiffin, Sark or Lanning.
  15. ESPN (the actual channel) running a banner saying Saban retiring. Its real.
  16. I expect we make a big run at Tray Scott. I do not think he is a realistic hire but he has been stuck in same role for five years at Georgia and is 'only' making ~900K. We could throw 1.2-1.3M at him and in the very least fuck over Georgia forcing them to match. He is probably the best combination of recruiter + developer on the DL that isn't an entrenched DC / Co-DC somewhere.
  17. I meant it primarily due to all the scandals he has been attached to and my doubts an Orgeron hire would get through compliance. He also seems really comfortable in his semi-retirement though just doing coaching camps and advertisements.
  18. Ed Orgeron would be a fucking hilarious hire. It isn't realistic for a hundred reasons but man that would be entertaining.
  19. Can we please not have a LaJohntay and Johntay on the same team at the same position? I get a headache just thinking about announcers / media stumbling over that shit all season. Or likewise making the same corny ass comments about it every single weekend as if their crew was the first to notice.
  20. Nahlin has an entire thread up on IT basically taking a victory lap claiming how they've killed it lately and all the people who thought they would collapse after Bobby and GH were removed were wrong. I'm sure someone else will come along and post the screenshots. I'm far too lazy to do it. He takes some pretty clear shots at GH and Bobby. The two quotes below by Nahlin shed a lot of light into why that change at IT happened. Most people seemed to think it was YT revenue related but clearly there were also issues with the perception of who was providing the information at IT. He probably has a fair point at least in regards to how many people were ready to shovel dirt on their grave. "At least 10 stories in 3.5 weeks I was first on that if the relationship hadn't changed people would think I was just over there picking my nose." "For far too long we never marketed. We were behind a paywall with no advertising. This is not my nature but December was a ***** and I read the comments here while knowing how much info and value I have provided that apparently went unnoticed. I took a back seat for the business while others consumed oxygen and appealed to the lowest common denominators. That's not the case anymore and the last month of reporting should show it never was the case."
  21. Nansen has supposedly done a good job coaching ILB at Arizona thus far. Jacob Manu ended up being the first team all-conference ILB for the PAC I believe and the way people talk about the job Nansen did with him sounds very similar to how people talked about Choate developing Ford.
  22. Of course. No one was running around saying Nansen actually sucks and it was this analyst that saved their defense. I am saying that the value Akina brought to them has been universally praised and is something that their coaching staff and reporters have mentioned repeatedly all season long. As much for his schematic input and game strategy help as his work during the week with their secondary. I am talking within the context of his role as an analyst and the value he would bring coming here as such. Not saying he should or would replace Gideon, etc. edit: I will say that if you think I am being over the top go take a look at the reddit reactions by Arizona fans to the Nansen news. Or their boards / reporters reactions. You will see almost more comments about "hope we can keep Akina in some capacity" than you will "oh man it sucks to lose Nansen". I'm not even saying those reactions are not silly- just saying that the value Akina provides is real, at least in perception, and not really the mock worthy idiocy of the yearly "we should hire Samples" type bullshit we also see from some of the same people.
  23. Some of you are absolutely clueless. I get it is fun to poke fun at older coaches and mock the nostalgia shown by the geriatrics on Surly but Akina is fully credited by basically everyone around the Arizona program as why their defense took such a huge step forward this year. The reason Arizona went from allowing 35+ points a game to like ~21 points (despite facing an on paper tougher schedule) is because of the vast improvement of their secondary. Under Akina. He isn't just some meme name being thrown around. He is still doing a phenomenal job wherever he decides to park himself both at developing players and with his schematic input. Nansen himself has credited Akina repeatedly all season long as being hugely important to their success. The guy is also only 67, not 80. He is five years younger than Saban who certainly seems to be still doing just fine. /end rant I mean I get it. People pining for old Texas coaches from the Mack era can get tiresome. It is fun to poke fun at the guys who want always want us to kick the tires on washed coaches who haven't shown competency in near two decades. That isn't Akina.
