  1. The jury is still out on sark, one year is not enough time to judge anyone I don’t care if we went undefeated this year. A one year referendum on a guy is crazy. Let’s see what he does with a QB this year. He seems reasonable and pragmatic thus far which is a good thing. Coleman being let go is a good data point.

id love to add GP because he could oversee the recruiting department, the S&C and the Defensive game-planning. The guy has been a HC for 20 years and built a program practically by himself. He could help Sark tremendously. He would not be brought in without Sarks approval, that’s just ridiculous and that’s not how CDC operates. Therefore, if he is brought in, that shows that Sark is not insecure and that he can lay his ego aside for the betterment of the team. Another positive data point. I would bet my left nut that GP is not the next HC if Sark is fired. I bet we do whatever it takes to get Shannahan

Shawn Lewis (WR Analyst) and X both RT'd a Marion post today (it's a good watch btw)

Man, if we can somehow land him AND Addison idk what I would do. That would garner some real optimism. Imagining Quinn with Bijan and two All American WR’s….Happy Black Girl GIF by Nick At Nite

How do we feel about this staff as a developmental staff?  Their backgrounds seem to say they can develop.  Per CTJ, A&M thought this staff was good enough to go full bag game.

Recruiting is super important.  Yet I don't think it's been the key issue in our mediocrity.

I'd like to hear more on that side of things if anyone has anything to offer.

FWIW, I thought the OL improved from putrid to tolerable over the course of the year.  Tope Imade's comments on Flood also give me some hope.

I just feel like recruiting is super visible to everyone and it's important but not our main area of weakness.

Kind of disappointed in DL play not sure how much of it is Bo vs Scheme but I thought he’d have Sweat and Collins dominating this year. Also disappointed in TE play considering that Banks makes 1 million dollars, but he’s mainly a ST guy and they were the strength of the team so it’s whatever. I don’t know why we have a safeties coach it seemed like we played with 9 men all year.

We can talk recruiting all day long on this board without concerning ourselves one bit with the coachspeak that a guy like Arch Manning has been taught from childhood when it comes to the press.

I realize part of the fun for some of you guys is to read the interviews with players and then react, but if the interview shows zero discernible signs that a player has a single "con" for any of the schools he's discussing, he's bullshitting the reporter. That's 95% of the quotes from any recruiting article unless a player is off the record. When one does say something negative, we all see it and discuss it because it's at least not bullshit. Do you understand the difference?

As to Harris, there's simply a difference in how people on this board view program and team building from one another. Some of us want to see excellence within the organization and know what the traits for that look like, and the rest of the board is okay with new mediocrity because it isn't the same as the old mediocrity. As for guys like me, we're never going to be okay with "hey, some recruits seem to like this guy. that's more guys than a dead body, so it could be worse. i'll take him." So it's okay that we agree to disagree.

Thanks for this response. I understand your perspective better now and I think I tend to agree. I have seen so many disaster hires within this program over the years so I guess that it has made average seem attractive to some degree. Wow that’s crazy. You are right.

Y'all saw a guy who was actually good at connecting with recruits with Carrington. Dude got raves from recruits who couldn't wait to take pictures with him, mothers tweeted about him, he was featured in commitment videos.

Do you really think occasional generic "he's a nice guy" quotes about Harris in 9.95er reports are the same thing?

I don’t think anyone believes he’s an elite Director of Recruiting. It’s just hard to believe that his presence in the program is something that should be lamented.

You guys that take a guy like Arch Manning at his word about staff members for various programs when he's talking to reporters should take it to DM so the rest of us don't have to be a party to the nonsense. It's fucking idiotic that you're drawing any conclusions on Arch Manning's recruitment or feelings about assistants based on what he told some $9.95er.

I don’t understand this. It’s kind of ridiculous for you to ridicule me for pointing out an actual quote. That’s weird. If we can’t take players quotes into account then none of this matters. The anti Harris stuff is hearsay. Maybe it’s credible hearsay but it’s difficult to believe that it’s as bad as some say if he is still being employed. Harris has done some good things and built some solid relationships with recruits. That’s easily verifiable. I can attest to that personally because I know kids who he is currently trying to recruit. Moreover, it is not humanly possible for one person to be liked by everyone, even Carrington rubbed some dudes like Jeffery McCullough the wrong way. You could be right about Harris, if so I hope that he corrects his mistakes but you cant deny the positive that he’s done with many members of this class based on what has been reported.

Keeping Harris is a surprise but our recruiting will be fine especially now that we’re bringing in baller recruiters at RB and (hopefully) WR coach.

The actual bad omen with Sark is IF he doesn’t make any changes on defense. Patterson may be enough but there absolutely has to be some kind of change there.

I totally get your sentiment and I go back and forth on that myself. But Kansas, yikes! It’s just so hard to get a good read on anything when our personnel was so bad at the three most important spots in this scheme(Edge, Safety, LB)…Joseph has recruited well enough to get another shot and Choate has got to be a better coach than what his unit showed last year, he built that Montana state program from the ground up and they are actually great now. Staff continuity as far as gameplanning and adjustments makes a big difference, these guys never worked together before that should be a data point under consideration. But Kansas, yikes! The defense has nowhere to go but up as sad as that sounds to say and this current staff getting it turned around is the best case scenario for the program(if it’s even possible). Sark is in a tough spot. I wouldn’t want to be the one having to make this call. But Kansas, yikes!

Sucks that Harris will return, but hopefully they hold him more accountable this year.

He needs to be gone next year if he doesn’t substantially improve though.

This helps with Manning, Cook, and Owens so it’s not absolutely horrible. I hope he continues to improve and learn from his mistakes.
I still think that whole apparatus is getting revamped though. We will add multiple staff positions. The crazy thing is at Bama their coaches don’t recruit players. They have a person like Harris assigned to every position coach and he or she talks to all of the recruits on behalf of the coach. And before the player visits campus the staff member catches the coach up to speed on what they’d been discussing and what the player likes ect. It’s really badass because it frees the coaches to focus more on coaching and building better relationships with current players.

Actually I think it is an interesting marriage. TE blocking has been hurting the Texas offense for years. Bringing in someone with a deep understand of 2 back sets might actually bring in some wrinkles that help the offense.

And we need to recruit whoever ND recruits at TE lol we shouldn’t offer unless they have a ND offer hahaha

Marion and Sark also have a lot of schematic differences in the offenses they run. I don't think from a scheme perspective it really works but Marion isn't being hired here for that reason.

Sarks comments after the K state game were interesting he said “I’ve never majored in wildcat but we have the personnel to make that a big part of our offense moving forward” I bet Marion’s Go-Go could be used in the wildcat stuff. Sark could give him that portion of the O, if he wanted to

Kelly likes a conservative offense.  That approach worked at ND with all the low scoring prodding offenses he faced and the lack of fast defenses he played against. I was wondering if he would change that approach at LSU but it seems like he won’t.

He usually has a massive O Line too. Gonna take a while to get that at LSU they have struggled there for years and his OLINE coach is staying at ND

Lol. And your narrative is literally “the best players did play because nothing else makes sense” on the way to posting the worst texas defense in history. Skins on the wall isn’t the same as best player.

Have you ever led a group of people before? Did you play football? Have you ever been part of a team? There are a lot more factors than just “who is better” does player “x” make it to meetings on time? Is he skipping study hall? Has he demonstrated an understanding of the playbook? Is he trustworthy? You claiming to know better than dudes whose livelihood depends on it without having anywhere near the insight is truly remarkable. There are a myriad of reasons why some guys did not play this year and you claiming to know that it was due to incompetence on the coaches part and demeaning those who disagree is quite ironic because you are actually the one who is trying to construct a narrative

Johntay Cook has been liking Marion/Addison stuff too. Plenty of smoke, but it feels like Sark is looking for established options that won’t have him searching for another WR coach in 2022

I just find it odd that current Texas players and damn near the entire staff would follow this guy and he do the same if he wasn’t the guy.
