Perpetually injured We already have one Aaron Holiday, now you want two? What is this fascination with guards who can’t shoot?

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Same, and I think this is one of those “the AD’s message is this” when Burton feels obligated to toe the party line. I think it’s more likely we (and by this, I mean Sark as the architect and the main NIL donors) are in agreement that a bunch of schools feel a lot richer all of a sudden and are making promises that, if we’re offering to match, are poised to make retaining the last couple of classes really expensive (I.e., well outside of the budget). It doesn’t serve sustained program success to have the top rated recruiting class year after year, only to lose 50% or more after year 1 because the financial commitment isn’t there.

Texas -- a failed state
To be fair, I think a lot of people that would be supportive of the vaccine considered this so out of character for Perry that it became immediately suspicious. Who knows, maybe some phd candidate working on their poly sci dissertation can make an argument this was the start of some traditional Dems moving toward MAHA.

Indoor/outdoor wireless speaker system
I'm presuming wired; like you, I'm out on Sonos for the same reason (past Sonos owner). I met with an AV person who said that their are outdoor speakers that don't require a separate amplifier, which seems like a good idea since it's just a two speaker set up.

Indoor/outdoor wireless speaker system
Pushing this one to the top. We're about to re-do our deck and installation of a couple of ceiling speakers is on the wish list. I'm told there are speakers we can buy that have an amplifier built in, and that can play music via bluetooth or audio for an outdoor TV (this is the two use cases). Does anyone have a recommendation?

Yes: Pools are worth it....
I bought the Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus two years ago (spent $799) and have had two warranty claims, each of which required it to be shipped to Georgia for service for $85 shipping. Currently waiting on parts from them for a third warranty claim that I convinced their customer service staff would be better performed by me if I had the parts (rather than have both parties pay that shipping fee again). It does do a really good job of cleaning when it's not out of commission.

Car repair
True, but they will make a big frowny face if you decline to replace all four sensors just because one is out.

I would have preferred Jerome to Capela. Most of what I read says he's lost a lot defensively and isn't a good big for small line-ups, and we already have Adams if we want to play Sengun at 4. Thompson already averaged the 3rd most minutes on the team last year--he can take more shots but they have a desperate need to fill minutes at 2. Maybe that matters, and maybe that's Harden fighting hard to get Chris Paul, then Westbrook, then...out the door. Players (active, anyway) are shitty GM's.

Colin Allred, doing what nobody asked
You should listen to Ezra Klein’s podcast (I think released today) with Chris Hayes as they dig into the NYC mayor campaign. The comments on Spotify are hating on them for not talking policy, but they are geeking out about Mamdani’s mastery of social media in a way that’s a far more useful appraisal of campaign strategy in 2025 than another analysis on policy preferences. In other words, doom and gloom don’t sell, the circus is what sells. Dems can win with that approach, Mamdani is exhibit one and it’s not taking his platform, it’s taking his media approach and communication strategy.

This is how I feel. Beto, the San Antonio twins, Talarico, whoever. If they aren't going to announce now for something perhaps more attainable, more the merrier. I wouldn't call it a hail mary, but I think one tactic that might work in Texas is to throw in as much talent as possible into one race and use that to help get attention down ballot.

On here? Was he a member of the Church of Scientology? Imagining Pete, Duck, et. al., chasing after her in Mad Men required a wild suspension of disbelief.

The France Thread
😄In her defense, she'd rebut that's she's not a museum person and has already seen the top 5 or so touristy things. By comparison, I could easily curate a trip simply around eating 5 meals a day in Paris and wandering around. You're speaking my language--I found a website years ago that advertises Chateau and castles for purchase and that's my wildly unrealistic dream. Please buy LCHorn a castle here

I don’t understand the Capela signing at all.

The France Thread
So we're thinking of an October France trip and I'm favoring 5 days in Paris and 3 days somewhere else in France that's smaller but close enough to get back in time to fly out. My wife thinks 5 days in Paris is too much (bear in mind she's been twice without me, first time for me). I can't imagine 5 days is nearly enough time in one of the worlds greatest cities. Anyone want to make recommendations on anything in particular? @PenelopeWitherspoon? We don't really have a budget but I'm not spending $3k a night on a hotel that we'll be using to sleep and shower and that's it.

My suspicion is that Durant wouldn't want to play with Harden, anyway. There was plenty of chance to do so under Morey on a better Rockets team.

No thanks, even Chas is better than Seth Brown.

Time to bring up Ullola and put him in the bullpen.

He's a 20 year old professional athlete with generational money. "If" is very relative to his peer group.

Texas Passing Game 2025 - Personnel & Production - Jaggy McJaggerson FTW?
My prediction is that this is a contract year for him and he'll have more catches than Wingo. I'll also take the over on 371 team receptions. It's kind of hard to gauge how much time the 2nd string (or worse) will get, difference in play styles (Arch is more likely to tuck and run, Quinn incurring negative plays often enough to force obvious passing downs), schedule, etc., but Arch with Quinn's snaps plus his own prorate to 376.

I know per/36 is derided by the analytics community, but Whitmore is Green's superior in basically every statistical category except for assists, and this is coming in Green's year 4 after a ton of minutes played. If Whitmore is a complete bonehead it may all be for naught, but he's got potential that Green isn't getting to.

You mean waive them? You’d have to trade prospects out to move Walker’s salary and the others are basically neutral or worse on trade value.

Clutchfans consensus seems to be is that it's because Whitmore isn't coachable and it's time to get what you can for him.

I thought we didn't trust ESPN because their ratings were calculated using an AI based on old Tom Lemming rankings from the 90's?

Houston Astros 2025 Season Thread
MacKenzie Gore is really good and I don't know why the Nats would trade him. There's a better chance he's pitching on the next good Nationals team. I think the only obvious weak spot that doesn't appear to have upside is at 2B. Maybe someone like Brendan Donovan can be obtained fairly cheaply, I guess Brandon Lowe even if I don't like his contract and I expect the Rays will ask for prospects we'll regret trading. I'm also okay with standing pat if our team health appears to be in a good place coming out of the ASB.
