  1. Given how big of a deal an extra days rest is in the NFL along with how far teams are traveling it seems absurd that they would have games span 3 days. If the Cowboys win (a man can dream) they'll either get to take on Philly (already on a bye) or travel to SF who would have played Saturday & have 2 days extra rest plus no travel while the Cowboys travel coast to coast. Just throw them in the Saturday Divisional Round game on top of it for good measure. Also, it's past time for division winners with losing records to lose their home games. That's always been dumb.
  2. oh man, random people on the internets are going to be sharing mean memes about TCU? Only UGA has a leg to stand on and make fun of TCU because everyone else had a loss or 2 & didn't make it. People won't be mocking Texas because we didn't matter in '22. Being completely irrelevant is worse in my book than getting blown out.
  3. What has next years team won? Have they gone to the Big12 championship? Have they won a playoff game? Sure it looks better on paper than TCU's team but what the shit does that make? Our team looked better on paper this year than TCU, we were even favored to beat them. TCU didn't look like a 12-0 team on paper this year. BU didn't look like a Big 12 championship team on paper before last season. I'm about as optimistic as I can be about next years team & I'm stuck at wondering if we'll win 10 or if we'll find a way to screw up a couple of wins again. If you could guarantee future success then sure, let's slog through it, but since you can't, I think I'll take actual on the field success instead of dreaming of next year every single offseason.
  4. If you're asking for the direction of a program then you're changing the argument. I'd rather go 5-7, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2 & settle in 12-1 land for eternity, but since we don't get to really plan out the next 5 years I'd 100% take a flash in the pan-type season & then hope our coaches can parlay that success into future success as opposed to watching coaches be completely unsuccessful for 3 years & piss away any hint of success at the first opportunity. Baylor won a Big 12 championship last year which we haven't done in 14ish years. They also won their NYE6 bowl which is a combination we haven't accomplished since 2005 when we won the NC. Yeah, I think I'd take that & then have a return to earth for a season opposed to scratching out an 8th win before getting handled in the Alamo Bowl. But that's just my preference & I can certainly understand those who'd prefer to not be on the opposite end of that kind of beatdown.
  5. depends on the alternatives. Lose the championship ugly or catch a beating in the Alamo Bowl or forfeit the bowl or go 5-7 & not make a bowl? I'd prefer the NC beatdown in that scenario. There aren't many scenarios where I wouldn't want to be playing for the NC over much of anything else even though the 60 point beat down would not leave me feeling great. We went 5-7 last year just like TCU, would you have preferred their 13-2 season or our 8-5 season?
  6. Yeah, but he does have a background in the secondary so he could help teach the WRs how the secondary is going to attack them & how to better take advantage of how the secondary is playing them. It may be worth the phone call just to gauge interest. The real money is on the offensive side of the ball & could you imagine learning under Sark while working with a pretty loaded WR room? He'd probably just use us for a raise, but it never hurts to ask.
  7. Good game by Quinn last night. Made a couple of plays with his feet when he needed to, went through progressions more consistently than he has all year, deep ball was good, missed Worthy on the 4th & 1 slant, & some of the screen passes weren't where they needed to be to let the WR get good yardage, but other than that was pretty damn good. Outside of OU it was his best night. Whittington drop on 3rd down, Worthy 2 drops on deep balls & 1 that landed at his feet because he didn't adjust to the throw are on the WRs. He'd have had 400+ yards and another TD or 2. If Neyor isn't going to be healthy then hopefully one of the 2021/2022 WRs figure out how to adjust downfield & maybe not be thrown off a route when a defender breathes on them. The OL needs to take another 2 steps forward as well. Very little to no push all night in the running game is not a recipe for success.
  8. Doubled down? Surely we passed doubled down in the 90's. We're bound to be at whatever the "tuple" is for 100. Looked it up - "centuple"
  9. It could very well be, & probably is, specified in his contract that he has a certain number of days to present his side of the story if the University is seeking to fire him for cause. 10 days or 14 days would be my guess if it's specifically detailed, so it'd be surprising to hear anything this week unless they're going to fire him right before Christmas so the news gets lost among the holidays.
  10. Hard to keep up at this rate but I believe this was the raw footage of Durkin meeting with the defense before their end of season meetings started.
  11. How does nervously excited not make any sense? Like a kid on Christmas Eve imagining what presents they'll get.
  12. Arky was anticipating him to be ready for spring ball according to an interview with Pittman in October. No clue if that's still the case but I'd imagine he would be in a non-contact jersey wherever he is this fall spring while learning whichever defense he'll be starting for next year.
  13. back-to-back shoulder injuries in 2021 & this year. Had reconstructive surgery this year.
  14. No way did he say the portal is your friend. No way that just happened with the blackhole sucking everyone out of BCS as we speak.
  15. With legitimate backups. Thompson & Red with a year in the system & Cook & Niblet coming in as well. Excellent WR room & the ability to be extra picky in the portal or allocate the spot to another position if no one we want is available.
  16. Sorry that your dumb post requires a response with words. Basically, you're an idiot for saying it's unfathomable that Beard is still employed.
  17. It's not that unfathomable for a few reasons. 1. The few contracts I've read up on have some sort of time line for the coach to present their "case" to the decision makers before they can be fired for cause. Pitino had a specific number of days at Louisville. He actually went back & sued Louisville because they suspended him before that time was up & they eventually settled out of court. Beard's previous contract at TTU was more vague & essentially just allowed for an unspecified period of time. Either way, it's likely his contract at UT has it in writing, find that (I've half-assed tried but couldn't find his actual contract) & you may find a timeline if they've already made up their minds to fire him. 2. Assuming the very small group of people that will ultimately decide Beard's employment status at UT haven't already made up their minds, there's a lot that could, potentially, go into this decision. Most of those reasons have been discussed ad nauseum in this thread so there's no need to rehash it all, but the "he's going to be fired no matter what" crowd seems to underestimate the power that a proven winner at a money-making sport can wield if they have the right donors in their corner. Add to that the fact that he's an alum & the roots run even deeper. If his future is still in doubt it will likely all come down to "what information will come out & what information could potentially come out in the future?". Now, with how many journalists hate Texas, including the ones that cover Texas, it seems unlikely that anything will be left covered up for very long so, if they decide to keep him, they better make sure there aren't any bad pictures of the injuries & the alleged audio really does help Beard & not hurt him, because those things will 100% be leaked.
  18. Do you think our coaches do that for any reason other than controlling narratives & recruiting new players & promoting a family atmosphere that mama & grandma can send their kids to? Do you think "potentially questionable incident" of someone that the coach is seeing personally is any sort of barrier to hiring the men's basketball coach? I could see, maybe, someone like a cross country coach or quidditch coach not passing compliance because of a crazy spouse or something, but the HC of 1 of the 2 money making sports? nah. Win games, make money, don't get caught doing something stupid. He failed at number 3
  19. Yeah, but, like, what if they have our balls hidden way down in their purse & they're hard to find? Is it okay to leave without them or do we have to ask for them back first, because that could be awkward.
  20. "Hey there is some stuff floating around about your gf/fiancé/fiancée, everything good?" "Everything's fine" If it went any further than that then it would be shocking (if it even went that far). He's a basketball coach with no known history of any sort of trouble, why would CDC question him about a his gf & what he thinks is the acceptable amount of time between divorce-dating-marriage?
