  1. It's not that unfathomable for a few reasons. 1. The few contracts I've read up on have some sort of time line for the coach to present their "case" to the decision makers before they can be fired for cause. Pitino had a specific number of days at Louisville. He actually went back & sued Louisville because they suspended him before that time was up & they eventually settled out of court. Beard's previous contract at TTU was more vague & essentially just allowed for an unspecified period of time. Either way, it's likely his contract at UT has it in writing, find that (I've half-assed tried but couldn't find his actual contract) & you may find a timeline if they've already made up their minds to fire him. 2. Assuming the very small group of people that will ultimately decide Beard's employment status at UT haven't already made up their minds, there's a lot that could, potentially, go into this decision. Most of those reasons have been discussed ad nauseum in this thread so there's no need to rehash it all, but the "he's going to be fired no matter what" crowd seems to underestimate the power that a proven winner at a money-making sport can wield if they have the right donors in their corner. Add to that the fact that he's an alum & the roots run even deeper. If his future is still in doubt it will likely all come down to "what information will come out & what information could potentially come out in the future?". Now, with how many journalists hate Texas, including the ones that cover Texas, it seems unlikely that anything will be left covered up for very long so, if they decide to keep him, they better make sure there aren't any bad pictures of the injuries & the alleged audio really does help Beard & not hurt him, because those things will 100% be leaked.
  2. Do you think our coaches do that for any reason other than controlling narratives & recruiting new players & promoting a family atmosphere that mama & grandma can send their kids to? Do you think "potentially questionable incident" of someone that the coach is seeing personally is any sort of barrier to hiring the men's basketball coach? I could see, maybe, someone like a cross country coach or quidditch coach not passing compliance because of a crazy spouse or something, but the HC of 1 of the 2 money making sports? nah. Win games, make money, don't get caught doing something stupid. He failed at number 3
  3. Yeah, but, like, what if they have our balls hidden way down in their purse & they're hard to find? Is it okay to leave without them or do we have to ask for them back first, because that could be awkward.
  4. "Hey there is some stuff floating around about your gf/fiancé/fiancée, everything good?" "Everything's fine" If it went any further than that then it would be shocking (if it even went that far). He's a basketball coach with no known history of any sort of trouble, why would CDC question him about a his gf & what he thinks is the acceptable amount of time between divorce-dating-marriage?
  5. Jimbo: What are your demands? BP: Full control of the offensive play calling, implementation, recruiting decisions, on & off field assistants, & $1mm/year + bonuses. Jimbo: I can do $1.5mm/year, you get absolutely no say in anything on the offensive side of the ball but I'll get you a new motorcycle & what you do with any coed &/or my wife will be none of my business. BP: gig me.. i mean gig 'em!
  6. Stick around long enough and maybe they slap an "Interim Head Coach" tag on him 2 or 3 years from now when they finally raise the funds for Jimbo's buyout.
  7. Laugh at your own peril, the punt block defense was unstoppable on Madden rookie mode.
  8. Maybe he's finally breaking into the sunflower seed NIL. Or possibly he's now the new starting LB since they have literally no one else & that's the face he's going to make when getting trucked by a RB? or both?
  9. I'm sure the ACC could lobby for Friday night vs. PAC 12 on FOX. I understand ESPN wanting to have coverage all day but going up against the B1G is just beating your head against the wall with regards to ratings.
  10. Certainly better numbers than what I was expecting. It definitely helps that it was the only major conference game on Saturday that was predicted to be close & had the possibility to affect the playoffs. The biggest news out of looking into this for me is just how far the ACC has fallen. Partly due to a lack of someone to rival Clemson & because FSU & Miami are so far down, but man those ratings are BAD BAD & have been bad for a while now. The PAC12 receives a lot of flack for TV viewership but their Friday night championship games have been increasing in TV ratings while the ACC has been falling. Obviously USC being a playoff contender & Williams a Heisman candidate helped this year, but the ACC viewership numbers are just embarrassing. They need to accept their fate & stop contending with the B1G & just move it to noon or Friday night to see if that helps.
  11. ISU & Campbell are a great pairing & he seems like the type of coach that thrives as an underdog but would crumble under the pressure of a program with expectations higher than simply making bowl games. It'll be interesting to see what happens if Heacock ever leaves though.
  12. Oh TexAgs. In typical aggy fashion you have overestimated your importance & relevance. The only reason anyone takes time to screenshot & post your messages is because we all need to laugh every now & then & aggy is undefeated at unintentional comedy.
  13. NFL does it right. They have the best product hands down from start to finish. Their playoffs blow any other sport out the water, especially college football. A (currently) 5-6 TB hosting a playoff game against a (currently) 9-3 Cowboys is far from "right". It's certainly better than what the CFP currently has though.
  14. Just for the record, they can both suck & influence games we're playing in. The 2 are not mutually exclusive
  15. Obviously to keep their incredible recruiting class together. You don't hold on to those kinds of guys & dudes by firing the guys & dudes recruiting them.
  16. Pederson, Reid, & McVay. 3 of the last 5 SB have been won by HC who called offensive plays. Sean Peyton, Mike McCarthy (I think he was calling plays at this point. maybe not?) in recent history as well. It's still new, but certainly becoming more common. We'll see if it remains that way or if it's just a flash in the pan. It should be noted, NFL teams are allowed more coaches so that certainly helps. I think the biggest downfall of a HC who calls plays is that they tend to inadvertently torpedo the other unit on their team. Riley @ OU is the perfect example for this. Great offensive mind whose defenses were mostly awful. That said, if our ceiling with Sark is dominating the conference we're in and being a top 4 team in the CFP, I'd prefer we bang our head on that ceiling a few times before deciding we need to move on in search of a true CEO type coach or forcing him to hire someone to run his offense.
  17. Having a stat nerd or 2 isn't going to balance the committee like it ought to. The expansion of the playoffs was inevitable & a decade from now will happen again. There's already too much money involved to trust that people representing universities & conferences with vested interests will have completely unbiased opinions. If Michigan loses this weekend what are the odds that they're still included in the playoffs considering their AD & 2 other committee members have B1G history? The SEC, Big 12, & PAC 12 have 1 each meaning the B1G has as much voting power as 3 of the other P5 conferences combined. I realize the committee turns over & any given year will look different, but that's also part of the problem. One year the B1G has a lot of voting power &, even if they're doing their dead-level best to be unbiased, an SEC school gets left out for a B1G school and feels robbed. The next year the committee turns over & the SEC has more sway, what's going to happen? At the very least what's the entire country going to assume is going to happen? Adding more members just makes it less likely that any consensus is going to form & more likely that it'll end up closer to what we experience in politics now where "I'll agree with you on team A if you'll back me up on team B & we need to torpedo team C in order to prop ours up". What would your feelings be if there were a Stanford & Cal representative & USC is deserving to be in but 2 ADs with an ax to grind screw them at the end. With the expanded format it could be the difference between getting a bye or hosting a home game or having to travel to a hostile environment. That's too much power for people with vested interests in the result to trust completely. Bring some algorithms into the fray & help protect against those biases. Either that or take only the conference champions, have a Champions League like draw to determine the bracket, & find the best neutral site option for each matchup with the championship alternating between the pro stadiums in LA, AZ, TX, GA, & IL.
  18. Is it too naive to hope that a new selection process will be in the works soon? I think the selection committee has value, but when you have current & former ADs & coaches deciding who's playing in the playoffs there's no way to escape criticism. That said, you can't go solely off of something like the SP+ because it has UT ranked 7th at 8-4 & 11-1 USC at 11th while 10-2 Bama & Tenn are 4th & 5th. The algorithms have their place, but at some point you have to go with the teams that actually got it done on the field. A combination of the Selection Committee & algorithms (SP+ or whatever), weight their rankings however seems best & crap out your playoff bracket. Protect yourself against accusations of biases towards/against a team/conference while allowing room for the human element that some of the algorithms may miss as well as a group of people to bitch at when a fans favorite team inevitably finishes 13th and they watch the 12th seed get blown out in a game their team totally would have won.
