There were a few plays in the 2nd half that could have worked and might have gone for big yardage if Karic could have at least gotten a hand on his guy. Maybe he is better inside? But he can't be out there at tackle again.
Playing DB requires playing with confidence. Our guys panic way too much when the ball is in the air. Both Foster and Dunn were in position to be able to make a play on the ball and both ended up stumbling/falling away from where the ball was going. It's maddening. Not sure what PK is supposed to do about individual effort like that until we get better talent.
As a coach at any level of this defense what do you say in tape sessions besides you guys have to give better effort to get off blocks and make tackles.
Morning after and to be fair to PK the original game plan was on point and we win that game easily if the Riley isn’t forced to yank Rattler so he deserves a bit of credit there.
Now for what happened after Williams entered idk. It’s hard to gameplan for a QB you basically have no tape on in that offense. We saw this ourselves when Heard came in for Swoopes and lit the world on fire. We may have overreacted to him being a running threat, but we did force him to make passes and if our DBs were worth a shit the two bombs to Mims get knocked down or intercepted. Defense didn’t seem out of place, just unable to make plays and they were out there a lot in the 2nd half.
Maybe but I don't think Williams should be anointed so soon either. We've seen this before ourselves with Heard. Hopefully we get another shot at him in the CCG.
The jury still has to be out on Williams though. He caught lightning in a bottle today, but I'm not convinced he'll be able to sustain that level of play once teams adjust. We honestly got beat on 2 plays, the direct snap counter and Williams throwing the ball up to Mims.
You don't need anyone to talk you off the ledge you need someone to tell you to stop being a pussy. And the only way this looked liked a Tom Herman game is because we are playing with players he recruited.
The biggest issue with the DBs is they don't turn into receivers on deep balls. Instead they try and play the player instead of playing the ball. Ball is in the air for that distance attack the damn ball. Both Dunn and Foster made this mistake, Mims got away with slight pushoffs on both plays but that doesn't happen if they just play the ball instead.
I don't put much stock in ratings anymore. I will agree with you regarding it being the first year in this scheme. But there are plenty of guys out there just giving bad individual effort to often.
If you told me before the season we'd split the TCU and OU game I'd probably be happy with that, but losing the OU game in the manner we did sucks ass. Regardless we are still on track for my season expectations if we beat Okie St. next week.
I'd find this hard to believe, maybe they weren't prepared for the direct snap counter play, which fuck that play, but it is a well designed play. For them to not be prepared for the counter in general tells me no one from the coaches to the players watched any tape.
Next week is big, going to have a ton of recruits in again and need that win to hopefully see OU in Arlington for the rematch. So team has to forget about this game and focus on next week.
Takes like these tells me you have never played meaningful football in your life. No you can't just punt the ball on first down and expect any defense to hold up, let alone ours that are full of jags.
Yeah sometimes you stop a team from scoring by not allowing them to possess the ball. We failed terribly at that today. I bet if we sustain at least 3 drives in the second half they don't score 54 points and we likely win.
Need to keep the DL recruits and get them to enroll early so they can start next year. Need to start dropping bags for OL recruits or something because both of our lines are beyond terrible.
