Seriously, what are the Rangers doing? These moves aren't going to make them a contender - don't they need some pitching at some point? Where's the money coming from to get that, or do they have some avalanche of prospects that are ready to move up and dominate?
They are allegedly pursuing Kershaw. There's a good chance Dunning turns into an above average SP and they have a prospect in Winn who performed well in AA last season. They are still a ways off from hitting the 40 WAR threshold but if the league expands the playoffs then maybe it doesn't matter - getting to 80 wins is good enough.

Yeah, hopefully that means players and owners aren't far apart.
I think at a minimum the luxury tax threshold is getting a big bump.

Hot take for the final 24 hours: the market right now is absolutely absurd and the Astros are doing the right thing by not getting involved. I think there’s a reason all of the “smart” teams are quiet so far, with the exception of the Wander deal which is the most defensible of any of these silly contracts.
I don't like this shibboleth that "smart" teams don't make big deals. Is Friedman an idiot for making the Betts deal? I would take him any day of the week over Click. The market is different for elite players and it's stupid to totally eliminate that avenue to improve your team when resources are available.

If I were Jimmy Crane I would do the unthinkable and throw down ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE MILLION dollars on Correa. No fan in their right mind could fault such a beneficent owner in view of such a gracious and munificent offer.

Looking like Correa will be in pinstripes next season. The blowback on Crane and the FO is going to be glorious. Click might panic and sign another middling reliever to a near $10M AAV deal to quell the furor.

When he goes 5-7 or worse, because he wasn't coaching this shit to a winning record and he lost to Charlie in the same year we fired Charlie. He's not a guy that is going to rebuild a program at 60.
i don’t care if he’s 60, he has a markedly better track record than any of Strong, Herman, and Sark.
Someone with his profile would be better able to withstand a losing season out of the gate than a known mediocrity like Sark. You know Sark is already being negatively recruited against on the basis that he’s probably going to get fired in a year or two, which is hardly an implausible claim. Shit the admin is already having to write stupid letters pledging their support.

Retention of talent like Bijan and Worthy, willingness to cut trash and call it like it is, and a willingness to build us something that wrecks shit. Or maybe I just sense he is doing the right things and all the bitchasses need to realize that they are the problem and shut the fuck up!?
Watching the team get worse and worse every week sold me on Sark.

Well, once we get to 8-4, we’ll get nice things too.
Have to actually get there though.

I don’t like BK that much but anyone who had have taken Sark over him last season is an idiot.

So who actually gets fired this winter? Coleman and Gideon? I don’t think Sark will pull the trigger on PK.

Agree. 7-8 wins in the regular season should be the reasonable expectation for next year.
I would put 7-8 wins as the absolute ceiling for next season.

I'm hoping we hold out for the Gwyneth Paltrow "This Smells Like My Vagina" Bowl.
Gloop Bowl champs would be a hell of a way to turn around the season.

That loss broke these weak minded players. Coaching can't fix the depth of mental weakness on this team. I'm guessing you've never had to motivate someone who's completely broken. I don't know if the coaching staff can get it done here, but this team as a whole has no heart.
I don’t want to be one of those “we should have kept Herman” posters, but I don’t remember his teams quitting en masse. Maybe that had to do with Sam though and other team leaders who are now gone.

He actually is worse than Strong. We’re already grasping at the “maybe he could hire someone else to be de facto head coach” straw in year 1. I feel like it took until year 2 with Strong after the Notre Dame game before I started seeing those posts in earnest.
Chuckie Strong left a roster that won a Sugar Bowl. Would guess there’s a <5% chance Sark has that kind of success.- 1

I just can’t believe Sark was really our Plan B. Goes to show that simply because someone is wealthy/successful, doesn’t mean they aren’t a fucking regard.

If only we had previous evidence to show how bad Sarkisian is.
80 games just isn’t enough evidence to show how good or bad a coach is….
Yeah, I highly doubt Sark turns things around. Maybe by 2026 Texas football might be worth caring about again. Anyway, hopefully things are sorted out before 2040.

Herman is responsible for this dogshit roster. He left the program in far worse shape than good ol’ Chuck Strong.

PK says “hold my beer” after that easy TD drive.

Thompson is done. Robinson is fast.
