I feel like Thompson isn't doing shit to show he should stay as starter or in the game.
They could try putting Johnson at QB. Didn’t he play there in HS?

2010 vs 2016 vs 2021 - which was the worst team of this millennium?

But Casey’s fumble and int did happen. The QB that leads Texas into the future is not on this roster. That is pretty clear
Thompson would be a good backup assuming he's willing to do that. At the least, Card needs to sit for multiple seasons before he's ready to play at this level.

We completely botched the end of the Mack Brown era. He helped tremendously in the botching. Charlie Strong's failure created a negative feedback loop and a losing culture that we haven't been able to shake. Kids who Texas recruits barely remember the 2009 Texas team. We've been a struggling program for most of their lives. The only thing that will change that is winning, and that will take a special coach who can get players to buy in to his message. Finding that coach is extremely difficult not only because of the limited number of quality coaches, but also because it requires a whole lot of luck.
Sark might be the guy. It doesn't look good so far, but he's going to get a chance to right the ship. If he can't, we start all over again two or three years from now, one if he has a losing season next year.
Strong was a terrible coach, but he was also given a dumpster fire of a roster which he at least improved in view of Herman's limited success with Strong's players. A better coach could have built from that foundation and returned us to something more akin the 2000s program. Although Herman recruited higher rated classes, he seems to have retarded the quality of the roster back to how it was when Strong arrived.
Sark has shown flashes on offense in spite of clear talent deficiencies. I can buy him turning that unit around with enough time. The defense though is an absolute disaster and i'm skeptical it can be fixed before Sark is fired.

I doubt we can pry Heacock away, but I wonder if there is someone else that runs a similar system we could land? Would we be just as screwed trying to run that system given our massive limitations at LB? Maybe we would be better off just playing a vanilla 4-2-5 lol.
-
Sark will get another year because of the money, the ego of the retards who hired him, and the fear that firing him now will make it more difficult to hire a replacement.
Whether Sark is fired in 2022 or 2023 will come down to whether we just suck or are disastrously awful next season. That probably comes down to who he hires to retool his defensive staff and what transfers he lands this off-season. I don’t have much hope of Sark succeeding on either front, but the bar is now so low with this program that he might survive next season through simple dumb luck and regression.

Too bad we couldn’t get Odom. Shit, I would have taken ISU’s DC. For whatever reason, PK’s defense doesn’t work with this roster in this league.

You don't recover from losing to Kansas. Waiting 2+ more years to fire him only lets the corpse rot further.
Yeah I just can’t see him being able to bring talent to this catastrophe of a program. Not after losing 7 straight including Kansas at home. Once that hope is lost the HC is done.

He’s not getting fired after 1 season.
But he best clean house this offseason and burn this program to the ground to rebuild it from scratch.
But wasn’t his staff supposed to be the reason why he was a good hire? The idea that he would bring along his Bama buddies and a DC with an impeccable resume?
-
The people responsible for Sark’s hiring should never have a say about anything Longhorn athletics related for the rest of their worthless fucking lives. The hire was what it felt like when it was first announced - a stupid fucking joke.
-
This program is in a worse position today than when Charlie was hired nearly a decade ago. This staff is done but we’ll have to suffer through at least one more season of this horseshit
-
This program wouldn’t be worse off with an interim Coach for the next season or however long it takes for us to afford a new coach
-
Next season is going to suck so hard. Why even play it?
-
This coaching staff is finished. And we’re in year one.
-
When’s the earliest this guy can be realistically fired? After next season?
-
Worst linebacking I can ever remember from a Texas defense.
-
Does Kenpom phase out whatever he uses to form his pre-season projections and, if so, when does that occur?

People don't want to say it but this roster is about what Mack left Strong. That's where we are at.
Pretty funny that Charlie Strong, the worst coach ever here, lest the program in better shape than Mack and Herman.

Not saying the “no one could win with these players” people are wrong, but if that is true, then why did almost everyone on this site expect this team to win 8+ games and at least compete for a conference championship?
I don’t remember anyone in the off-season saying Sark would be doing well to simply become bowl eligible with this roster.

Pretty much the only positive thing you can say about Sark at this point is that it’s usually hard to tell too much from a new coach’s first season.

At least they fought back to make this a competitive game on the road against a good WVU team.
Non-losing season in 2022 and conference champs in 2025!
