Urquidy is going to be in the bullpen if needed.

I think if we're up then they should use him today.  If we're down then maybe save him for game 5 so we can avoid having to rely on the pen for more than a couple of innings.

I would argue the Red Sox lack the pitching on top of being the worse hitting and fielding team.  It really shouldn’t be close next round but like you said, it is the playoffs so I guess anything can happen.

I think at mid-season the Astros had better pitching, but Garcia has fallen off and Greinke imploded. Plus, Sale is back.  IMO, Eovaldi,  E-Rod, Sale/Pivetta > LMJ, Framber, Garcia/Urquidy.

Agree that the play was to walk him there.  Smoltz also actually made a good point.  Kike is a good enough bunter to push it toward 1st and the run could have scored easily that way.

You would walk Kike to load the bases and bring up the substantially better hitter with platoon advantage?

I can’t believe this Red Sox team made it to the ALCS.  Fully expecting the Astros to sweep them pretty easily but it has still been a good season for the Sox.

The Rays’ offense was smoke and mirrors and their pitching hasn’t been that strong in the second half.  Plus it’s the playoffs, so anything can happen.

I’d put the Astros as a slight favorite over the Red Sox should they advance. They are the better hitting and far better fielding team but the lack of pitching might catch up to them.

  5. To be fair to Dusty, he’s been given a tough hand. We basically have two dependable SPs, a guy who’s obviously out of gas in Garcia, and a guy who’s not bad but also gives up too much hard contact in Urquidy. On top of that you have a pen with a bunch of LOOGYs and ROOGYs capped by a very good closer.

Click should get more blame for not doing enough to fix this pitching staff.

In which case you babies would cry about "wasting" Maton in the 3rd inning when he could've just used Yimi and saved Maton for later.....

There were multiple runners on with the lead hanging in the balance.  Indeed, the three highest leverage ABs faced by the Astros pitching staff in the entire game were the three pitched by Yimi.  Keep in mind, Yimi has a .456 xwOBA against LHB since September 1, the worst mark on the entire team.  That's malpractice.  Just admit it.

who’s the best guy out of the bullpen with runners in scoring position ?

Javier shod have been up 5mins earlier. Last night was the best he looked since early this season. He’s a better starter

Maton was probably the best option because he's fairly good against both RHB and LHB.  Yimi is horrible against LHB.

  8. Some of y'all need to grow some thicker skin.  Other players, coaches, members of the media, etc., are going to keep talking shit.  I'm a lot more triggered by Dusty bringing in Yimi to face of a pair of switch hitters mid-AB than by the comments of some dumbass middle reliever.

Our Oline is below average at pass blocking and communicating. Our oline is average at run blocking and above average at outside zone. It’s good enough to score points.

our defense is the least athletic i have ever seen it. Our defense is trash

Our defense looks like something Tech would put out. A group that has a handful of good players followed by a bunch of JAGs ad bereft of any big-time play makers. Opposing fans (and not just casuals) hardly know who any of them even are because they aren’t worth knowing.

Kansas. Always. That is probably the most embarrassing loss in program history.

Kansas was more embarrassing, but it was basically Charlie being Old Yeller’d. Sucks but it meant unequivocally that we would be moving on.

Beating OU would have been huge for this program and if one or two of a hundred things in the second half of our way we hang on. Imagine what a win yesterday with a clear path to the Big 12 title game would have meant for recruiting.

  11. This game was an abomination. We can talk about how well we performed to build the initial lead but honestly this OU team isn’t very good and more importantly a good Coaching staff finds a way to hang onto that lead.

it’s not the final say on this coaching staff but it’s a damning data point.

I'm pissed at this loss for a lot of reasons, but some of you babies need some perspective. We don't yet have the horses to reliably win these types of games. Our o-line is abysmal and Sark is in his first year of recruiting guys. Our d needs upgrades. I have some nits to pick about the d scheme, but these are not problems for which there are no solutions. The team didn't quit, even though some of you pussies did.

We either lose one more game (either OSU or WVU) or no more games. That makes us 9-3 or 10-2. Pick your panties back up off the floor. No one expected this team to be gangbusters this year on personnel alone. The offense, even with its substantial limitations across the o-line, is night and day from last year with a guy who has started 4 games. We are at or ahead of where we should be if you can, for one nanosecond, be objective.

Did that loss hurt? Fuck yeah, because it was almost a win. Should you shit yourself and paint the walls in your man cave with scat? Probably not. So nut up, you little bitches.

This post would be nearly equally applicable to the 2013 OU game. There just no reason to think things will ever change unless it’s beyond all doubt they have changed.

Bijan really got kinda shut down in the second half and even parts of the first half.  If not for that 50 yarder he had, it was a very mediocre game for him.

Only ~30 yards in the second half.

Should have played two RB's at the same time on a bunch of plays and kept the running game going.

Some better blocking would have helped him out a lot.

Looking forward to a better Oline next year.

And running out the rest of this year to finish 10-2 + we'll see what happens in a bowl game.

I think we're getting better and can make a run at the big 12 title and maybe see OU Sucks again before the year is out.

The thing is, it’s much easier to shut down a RB than a QB or even a WR. Good defenses are going to take him away like Arkansas did and OU more or less did in this game.

  14. Just a terrible job by the coaching staff unable to bring that win home. At the same time this team just isn’t very good and won’t be for years. I’m starting to agree with others that if we don’t start cheating like all the rest this team is simply going to be mediocre until most of the posters on this board are dead.
