  1. Everytime I sit through one of these commitment announcements I tell myself never again. And here I am again listening to a bunch of hangers on patting themselves on the back and getting their 30 seconds of fame yet again.
  2. I was going to call bullshit on this but turns out that’s pretty close. I’m a bit surprised by that honestly. here is a chart of balances over the last 25 years.
  3. You almost just have to throw out CA policy at this point since its so far off the reservation. I saw reports that the subsidy program for rooftop solar panels is expected to cost non rooftop panel owners in CA over $8.5B annually by the end of the year on top of increased electricity costs.
  4. 100% on board with moving away from income-based taxation, and towards a national (and eventual state) VAT. There are tons of really good reasons to make such a change, and there is really just one reason we won't. It's regressive towards the poorest of us. But it's a far more practical change that actually raises the revenue its intended to, businesses are incentivized to comply, and its easy to understand.
  5. Sorry you’re poor. J/k. but do you not think they’ll expand the base and lower the threshold until they get the money they need?
  6. The administration of this unrealized capital gains tax will be nearly impossible without adding another 100k IRS employees and even then not gather anywhere near the tax they expect to collect. What it will do is open the door to lowering that 100m threshold down to say $1m or less within a handful of election cycles.
  7. I heard on the TV earlier today that in the last 4 years we’ve seen the highest amount of US personal savings recorded in history, and also the highest amount of personal debt. Wild to see those two in such a short period but I believe it. People are spending like crazy, and also not putting away anything. Basic economics and personal finance needs to be mandatory starting in elementary school, but even then people just generally seem to be reckless and expect to be bailed out by someone somewhere.
  8. Tight ends was the shit probably 5 years ago. One in Houston and one in Dallas. Stripper level quality waitresses.
  9. I don't need to look at some federal number that is engineered to portray a desired result. (look when i take out food, utilities, gasoline, household goods and clothing the CPI is barely above normal!!!) I can look at my previous grocery orders in the HEB app and compare to new ones. ranges from 20% up to north of 50% increase for many items. Bananas on the other hand are inflation resistant it appears and are holding steady. Poor banana farmers probably didn't get the top secret price gouging memo.
  10. Oh ok let me fix it for you, grocery items haven’t doubled, you’re right. In 3 years, they’ve increased 50%+. Now we should all feel comfortable there isn’t an issue with inflation.
  11. Enchubben: “everyday goods have gotten really expensive in the last 3-4 years and people are struggling” JimmyJazz: “you’re lying, look at gas prices 2 years ago.” Great work detective. ——————— But again, I’m not talking solely gasoline at the pump. It’s the small everyday household and grocery items like paper towels, stuff for kids lunches etc. what used to be a $150 weekly grocery run is now $250. As far as I can tell, the only thing I pay close to the same as I did back then is parking, and that’s because demand has dropped with remote work becoming more acceptable.
  12. I see what you see as well. I make what I could consider very good money and I struggle at times to do any of the small extras that would have been very normal 10-20 years ago (have newish cars, extended vacations etc). I have done a great job at long term savings, but realistically need some sort of break or windfall to make any progress in short term emergency savings or outlasting cash for major expense. 3-4 years ago I felt pretty positive about finances directionally, but these last couple years have been a real beating. Food/gas/clothing etc has all doubled for what we buy and wage increases aren’t even close to matching. I think the reality is that there are a ton of people that are doing a combination of the following: taking on a ton of debt, not saving for the future/retirement whatsoever, and also not saving for their kids education assuming it will be free. I think they’re in for a rude awakening on at least the first two items.
  13. Thank you for making my point. Yes, shit is expensive, and people that can’t save 3.5% shouldn’t be buying $700k starter homes. It’s not like expenses go away once you move into the house. Shit actually gets more expensive, I guess we just cover that too right? Anyways, I’m all for getting rid of the mortgage interest deduction too. I think I was able to claim it for 3 years or something and it was never significant. Then again, i bought a reasonable home which I could afford without help from anyone else. But I’m a hypocritical welfare queen or something like that soooo
  14. If you can’t afford a FHA loan with a 3.5% down payment, your chosen house is too expensive or you shouldn’t be buying a home. We should be focusing on policies that lower costs and reduce the inflation of the last 3 years so that people can afford to keep their homes once they’re in one rather than giving them the down payment on a home.
  15. Comparing the mortgage interest deduction and the proposed $25K down payment support is silly since they operate in very different ways (who it directly benefits, how much they benefit, and when) It's a very simple way to increase the cost of homes by another $10K - $25K while also adding to our deficit. It's the same problem with paying off people's student loans - it just incentivizes universities to charge more and exacerbates the issue. At a higher level, I hate it because it's pandering for votes with tax dollars, which, to be fair, is equally dumb when Trump (and I guess Kamala now too?) offer handouts for child tax credits and not taxing tips. Every single fuckstick running for office, except probably RFKjr, seem to have no issue with spending us into oblivion. I shouldn't be surprised that voters fall for this shit every cycle though, much of the voting population consists of dumb selfish idiots that can't manage a lemonade stand, much less a budget or understand basic economics.
  16. Straight white devil here, not offended by the taco comments at all. I’m going to assume that’s probably the case with like 98% of my demographic. The clip was dorky as hell, but I’m not sure how someone would be offended by that. He has shitty tastebuds, much like the rest of the midwest and northern region of the continent, so what? Seems like a bunch of journo idiots trying to find something to be angry about. Newsflash idiots, Kamala is floating price controls and $25k+ handouts to homebuyers; that’s something to be upset about.
  17. Perhaps I should be more specific. This is art. This is art, yes even with the nudity. Not art.
  18. Oh certainly. See here son, pulling your balls out of your hot pants next to the bearded lady, this is art. Put it in the Louvre.
  19. Oh snap. They got lips hanging out?
  20. I’m sure it was sent to him or he saw it online; someone somewhere paused it and screen grabbed it though 🤷‍♂️. Nothing wrong with a little casual dick/balls showing to kids as long as it’s brief though right? And you must be full of hate to think otherwise.
  21. I wasn’t looking at his crotch real time, no. It was texted to me from a real lunatic right winger who also doesn’t want frontal male nudity shown during the Olympics. Which, could easily be avoidable had we not had a tranny drag show during the opening of an international athletics competition.
  22. I do remember them not letting me watch the Simpsons at one point, I think that lasted a week. It’s a cartoon, and even with some mature themes, at least it was animated. Seeing this on a worldwide broadcast is something else entirely:
  23. Correct, I think my children would be offended watching that. And I had planned on having them watch the Olympics, but I guess it’s a good thing they were doing other things when this aired
