  1. Bankruptcy and assets seizure?
  2. This is a good summary: A look at a decade of Ukrainian resistance against Russia—years marked by death and destruction, but also resilience and hope https://www.wsj.com/world/ukraine-russia-war-10-year-anniversary-photos-06423029?st=xy4gdkdtimy88l6&reflink=share_mobilewebshare

  4. How do we expect the financial discussions to go? Conferences with more teams in the CFP get more money, right? What’s the best distribution model for Texas and the SEC?
  5. Would it surprise you to hear that the National Review Editors’ podcast was mocking and laughing at Carlson, too? ”Poor Tucker! What misfortune that Putin killed that guy after Carlson tried to show that Putin was a reasonable guy and not a monster. How could he have avoided that? Other than by recognizing Putin is a monster and not shilling for him?” (Noted podcast had the old style conservatives only).
  6. I used to deliver pizzas for Mr. Gattis to apartments on Lakeshore Drive in Waco.
  7. https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/02/16/how-americans-view-the-conflicts-between-russia-and-ukraine-israel-and-hamas-and-china-and-taiwan/ Rank and file Republican voters are pro-Ukraine (just not as much as Dems). It’s the GOP leadership leading the retreat, out of fear of a callout from Mira Lago.
  8. Well, maybe they just wanted to see somebody swell up bad and get a tracheotomy. Did you ever think of that? Huh?
  9. My understanding is that the victim’s parents are not ok with it, and that there were no charges because Lake Travis ISD has its own police, and they claimed jurisdiction. Was it a stupid prank? I don’t know if it was a prank, or bullying, but it’s about as smart as challenging a HS sophomore at a Friday night lake party to chug a bottle of vodka.
  10. I know following through is tough. These dogs’ owners can relocate them, saying they “ran away”. Police may be disinterested in getting dangerous dogs away, especially if it was only another dog that was attacked. My (deceased now) FIL told me what he did when my wife, as a toddler, was bitten hard by a neighbor’s dog that wandered into the back yard, requiring stitches. He went to the neighbor’s house with the county sheriff (a friend) and explained they needed the dog, to check for rabies. Neighbor: “You can’t do that! That will kill him!” (In those days, rabies in dogs was checked by removing a big chunk of brain). FIL: “Your dog bit my daughter. There’s no way it’s surviving, anyway.” (FIL loved dogs, btw). The dog was turned over and tested, and the neighbor moved.
  11. So, the comparison between 2020 TAMU and 2023 Texas- the Ags lost Alabama by four TDs, 24-52. It was 14-35 at the half. It wasn’t just misfortune that kept the Ags out of the playoffs. No one, and I mean no one, wanted to watch the two teams play again. In 2023, Texas was helped significantly in that they beat Bama, by two scores. (Say, who was the Bama OC in 2020? I’ll bet that guy is pretty good)
  12. Another difference- Sark is now in the top 10 of coaches’ salaries. Although the annual rate is larger for Sark than Jimbo, didn’t his contract put him in the top three?
  13. Oh, that’s beautiful. It has all the Ag fan fiction elements- - that bad fortune the Ags had? Chance fate, and there was nothing to do to avoid it - that good fortune Texas had? Again, blind luck, mixed in with the system helping Texas out.
  14. Nearly 100 Russians this month ventured to a place no foreign travelers had visited since the start of the pandemic: North Korea https://www.wsj.com/world/asia/vacation-in-north-korea-reclusive-state-reopens-to-tourismbut-only-for-russians-7b2978ea?st=qdszauugpbcz73s&reflink=share_mobilewebshare
  15. This is the Tucker Carlson thread? Is he still going on about how he thinks UFOs are “dark forces” in league with the U.S.?
  16. I don’t think it’s that nefarious. I think it’s as simple as the party is led by a vain, narcissist, lazy with a short attention span. I blame the party for submitting to him. Something remarkable happened. The GOP used to be the party of the college educated. Now, the Democrats are. The GOP voter base is now the less educated working male. The Republican party leadership has accepted and even embraced that. It’s a cult of personality now, and the personality is pretty crappy.
  17. I’m with you. (We’re in CR, right? Right) I have been emailing my (Trumpy) congressman about Ukraine, and getting the most bullshit excuses for not supporting them. Same with his GOP primary foes. The real reason they don’t support Ukraine? Because Trump says not to, and they fear him. Trump doesn’t want to support Ukraine because he hopes it will collapse and he can campaign on that (he may be disappointed to see who that gets tagged on). Plus, Zelensky didn’t back him in 2019, and Trump’s prime motive is settling scores. I have been a Republican for 40 years and I think I’m an independent now. I thought in 2016, I don’t have to vote for him, and this will pass. In 2020, I thought- “well, this is over and we can get back to normal”. Now? I’m still conservative but I just can’t say that I belong to a party led by Trump, Johnson and Gaetz.
  18. Thoughts- “The Maltese Falcon” was never about Spade getting the bird (which turned out to be fake); it was about him getting the perp that got his partner killed. Similarly, this was not about solving the mystery of the kid; it was about him getting Teresa through alive and unharmed.
  19. Trump is predictable in that in each decision, the single most important factor is catering to his ego and vanity, much more important than any US interests. Don’t think world leaders haven’t figured that out, even if half the American public hasn’t.
  20. You’re overthinking it. Putin knows Biden will beat Trump, and Putin doesn’t want to look like his narrative isn’t being followed.
  21. 1. Texas has a name, and Texas regularly goes through periods of vulnerability (that’s on us). TCU didn’t call us a rival when they were losing 30 in a row; it changed when they got good. 2. Texas is the flagship school. All SWC members, less Arkansas, had Texas fans in their regions, and recruited against Texas for local players. That leads to hating Texas (while, perversely, also needing Texas). 3. Obviously, adjacent states’ “flagships” (seems overstatement for OU and Arkansas, but there you have it) are going to emphasize the games against the Texas flagship. It’s our bad luck that Oklahoma and Arkansas are such disfunctional states that they’re going to have a lot more small dick issues to work through.
  22. Lot of interesting stuff here… https://sports.yahoo.com/with-college-sports-at-key-juncture-what-does-the-future-of-the-ncaa-tournament-and-cfp-look-like-164559682.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly90LmNvLw&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAAjEfjbhrW6oNFE287WJ-L9PHdAM840QzHr5blhys9fSoBWPqXNfHwnuTdoHV2AbVg4a7lzu6Tr79Yi_fRVPs34nbTWZZMWI3xmsghHWFvMT5pVxDK9BMpC5GJwbwf4lWKwTisHe3gJdFx5Pp-W8JyxZPHQ8ke3qASxl_cIjdVlk …and one funny thing. 2024 B12 media days are to be in Las Vegas.
  23. We were probably concerned about the unexploded ordnance littering the landscape. That was then. This is now.
