  1. What do you mean “against the law”? Which law? Whose law? This is not a police action. It is a war. ICC laws may apply. Geneva convention may apply. You may have a political disagreement with US aid, but I don’t see it as illegal, nor do I see any of Israel’s actions as illegal. How many Palestinian civilian deaths are acceptable? None. Nor were the deaths of the innocents acceptable. Nor the killings of the hostages. Nor the captivity of the hostages. T is all horrible and none can be celebrated by a right thinking person. Hamas has a lot of Israeli and Palestinian deaths to be held accountable for. I blame them for all of this.
  2. It certainly takes a brave Gazan to criticize Hamas and argue for new leadership. That should be noted at the top of their obituary. Im sure a lot of Gazans are antisemites. Ever hear of “Hitler’s Willing Executioners”? It’s a 30 years old history book that put the lie to the idea that the Holocaust was all done by the Nazis and average Germans weren’t ok with it. The average German was ok with it. Antisemitism was in the air that they breathed, the water they swam in. Years later, Germany has come a long way. It turns out that if you stop feeding hate to people, they can lose it. That is my hope in the ME.
  3. There is an old joke about a debate club, that was so experienced in their arguments that the points and counterpoints of the argument were replaced by defined “code” letters, to save time. This debate is kind of like that- the parameters and reasons are well known and well worn. It is a very tired game that needs something to change for it to end. I propose a change- get Iran out of it. Iran gives missiles to Hamas and Hezbollah; if that ended, Israel could ease blockades of Gaza’s port. Iran supports the more militant Palestinian factions; ending their support would provide room for other, calmer and more peaceful voices.
  4. Noa Marciano was a IDF soldier taken by Hamas, shown alive a few days later. Now, she is dead, Hamas claiming IDF bombing killed her. I’m skeptical of that. I don’t think Hamas has given a real accounting of hostages, and considering the slapdick way they were nabbed, some are probably in really volatile situations. There really doesn’t seem to be anything to keep them from being abused and killed.
  5. You’re a good guy, and I apologize if it seems like I’m posting at you. When I write these out, I do it with a combination of dislike for Yormark, Campbell, et.al., mixed with a dispassionate observation of how things will be going down.
  6. I think the right way to play this is to suggest to parents that they invite the soon-to-be-ex wife/DIL, without telling their son.
  7. Side note- I remember when WVU joined the B12. They entered saying that they needed a rival, and had decided to select Texas. That was certainly smarter than picking OU, at the time (wins would come easier), and certainly more fan recognition than any of the schools in between. CDC admits that TCU focused (focuses) on Texas. The same equations yield the same results for too many schools.
  8. I can believe you, but Jarod didn’t mention KSU. Texas has slipped over the last ten+ years, and become vulnerable, and teams like ISU, OSU, TCU, etc. have taken advantage of it to score some high profile wins. Teams can really focus (game planning and player intensity) on 2-3 games per year, and a lot of B12 teams have decided Texas would be one. That’s fine, the games are played to see who is better, but these same teams haven’t taken care of other business. They lose to Ohio, or S. Alabama, and so, if Texas wins, there really isn’t anything for Texas. Texas feels like Gulliver, waking up to find out that the Lilliputians that he thought were friends decided they would rather work together to tie him down.
  9. He is an ambassador for your team. He is parroting what he hears from your coach. Texas is one of your two biggest games.
  10. ESPN, not Fox, or ABC. And the week before, ISU was on streaming against Baylor. The only “bit” is the one where ISU fans are going on about being Texas’ rival, circling the date along with the Iowa game. Let it keep you warm at night. After Saturday, win or lose, we’ll remember the Cyclones less than we remember SMU. “Oh, Iowa State! We used to play them.” “Yeah? Where are they?” “Somewhere in Iowa…Sioux City? River City? Something like that”
  11. It shouldn’t matter. Texas needs to win for other goals than to show up some yahoo. To me, the most interesting part was when he admitted that ISU circled the Texas game along with the Iowa game. I get it- it’s their only chance to play a night game on a major channel. Targeting the Texas game has a more consistent payoff than targeting the OU game, lately.
  12. I have a lot more hatred for the Iowa Hawkeyes. I remember the 1984 Freedom Bowl. Bastards. I don’t know that I’ll ever think about the Cyclones again after Saturday, win or lose. Any memories will just be confused with KSU and OSU games, most likely.
  13. There is a decent chance that when staff analysts were given assignments last summer to start prepping game plans, OSU tape was given out instead of ISU tape.
  14. You have to wonder what Utah, CU, Arizona and ASU are thinking now.
  15. How does it overtake Texas-TAMU? It started later.
  16. Results are in. 176k viewers. Worse than E. Michigan at Toledo on ESPN2 at the same time. Worse than Wyoming at UNLV on the same channel, right after.
  17. Israel provides equal rights and representation for all of its recognized citizens. The problem for Israel is- to stay a Jewish state (as I noted before, this is a very illiberal concept for a mostly liberal people), it has to restrict citizenship/immigration. Palestinians claim a “right of return”, which would allow them citizenship. Israel wants to deny that, for fear losing status as a Jewish state (alternative would be allowing border entry and instituting “real” apartheid, which would be anathema for them). It is possible for a liberal democracy to have extremely restrictive immigration/citizenship laws, but the ones that do tend to be island nations- Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Somebody desiring Australian citizenship can’t just walk across a border (that said, Australia has had camps for undesired would-be immigrants). I know I’m not really contributing any solution to this problem, just pointing out the complexities of the knot.
  18. I have a friend that collects vintage Texas sports memorabilia. He got a call, several years ago, from a friend at Bellmont. Texas was running out of room and throwing away a bunch of conference and national championship trophies and cups from long ago, in no -revenue sports (track, etc). He drove to Austin and intercepted before they got to the dumpster. Clearly, this is only a Texas problem.
  19. Guys, let’s take chainsaw at his word. When we come across a demonstration, we can mingle in and add the other chants: ”From the river to the sea, we want liberal democracy!” “From the river to the sea, pluralism is for me!” “From the river to the sea, no to Islamic theocracy!” We can do it!
  20. If it was given to Fisher (I think it was), I assume it’s in his home (surely he’s not slapdick enough to keep it at his office). I hope it makes it to eBay and not the dump. That said, if it was at his office, it will probably end up in the dumpster behind the football offices.
  21. They don’t announce until game time.
  22. It cracks me up that Liucci, the spokesman for their athletics, looks like a guy pushing a stolen shopping cart full of crap picked from the trash, to his panhandling spot at a busy intersection
