  1. Yep. The Big 12 is disenchanted with OU. It dislikes us. The southwest schools fear a dominant Texas, and what it means in overshadowing them. They can live with a dominant OU. They all resent the LHN. Schools like OSU think, “We’re putting all our media revenue in the conference kitty, to share. How come Texas gets to hold back?” (Because, even holding back, Texas is providing about 40% of the revenue). This attitude permeates the league office. Texas is a “problem” and has been for a while. Now, Texas has even made OU a problem (in their eyes).
  2. I feel bad for the innocent and uninvolved Gaza residents that will have to suffer without resources (food, water, energy, medicine) while this all plays out. I feel even more bad for the innocent hostages and captives, in more urgent need of immediate care, under constant threat of torture and death. I can see how a truce benefits the former. I don’t see how it benefits the latter.
  3. The government of Iran needs to fall.
  4. I’m curious - do we have “lessons learned” from the hostage crisis of 45 years ago? What are they?
  5. Dak Prescott is great at everything you want from a QB except the physical act of throwing the football.
  6. No, I composed this while I was out on a jog and screwed up the math. You’re right.
  7. OK. Tell me why posters talk about Riley wanting to avoid competition. Give me something besides butt hurt Sooners with an inflated idea of Oklahoma attractiveness.
  8. There is discussion that the SEC may play nine conference games out of four team pods, with one pod being Texas, OU, TAMU and Arkansas. Those four teams alone mean a total of twelve games total among each other. There could be one of these each week. There’s your ABC 2:30 or 8:00 game. Then, each of these teams plays six more games against other SEC teams, half of which will be big names. On a weekend where TAMU plays OU and Texas plays Tennessee, and Arkansas plays Florida, there will be a lot of Texas TVs tuned to SEC games. Then, on Fox, the B1G will have a good slate, too. Every week, they will probably have at least one game of national interest. Then, NBC has Notre Dame. There will be a lot of down channel ESPN and FS1/2 for the Big 12.
  9. Why do people think Riley is afraid of competition? Leaving Oklahoma for LA is very understandable. The PAC is a significantly tougher Conference than the B12. The B1G will be, too.
  10. The IR8 don’t get- it’s not just NIL creating separation. That’s a huge part of it, but the media contract disparity is also huge. That media money isn’t going to facilities or upgraded amenities. It’s going to fun the scouting and personnel staffs that are required if a program is going to scout the entire US, HS through all levels of college football. Notice how many “hits” Texas recruiting is getting lately? How the three stars aren’t so much “reaches” anymore. They shouldn’t be- they’re not being scouted by a position coach looking at Hudl in his free time. There are real, professional football scouts working full time at finding players. We’re settling into a system where the blue bloods have more booster money for NIL and more media money for personnel staff. I look at the Baylor and OSU boards and they’re bitching about Aranda and Gundy not working hard enough to find the “jewels in the rough” they built their programs on!😂
  11. That B1G schedule- adding USC, Oregon, UW and UCLA has doubled doubled the number of compelling games. I wonder- did Fox and ESPN let the PAC die, so that in the new SEC and B1G, they get so many more national interest games? The SEC and B1G will dominate the major channels.
  12. Honestly, I thought the time slot was driven by the network and not the conference.
  13. I expect UT to take the high road. That’s how it has always been. I was mildly surprised that we dropped the flags of the Big XII schools, but I think that decision was forced on us when the four new teams joined.
  14. Why the B12 would dislike Texas more than OU. The other schools in Texas (and Oklahoma) hate an “up” Texas. An “up” Texas means fantastic ratings and demand for tickets, sure. It also means that the Lubbock Walmart is selling more UT gear than Tech gear. It means that most of Waco is rooting for Texas, not Baylor. It means FW newspaper subscribers gripe about Mac Engel writing too much about TCU and not enough about Texas. And don’t even ask about Houston. OU is different. They’ve seen what a dominant Sooner program is like and they can live with that. For the other programs in state and nearby, the best Longhorns program is a good, but beatable program. They have had that for almost fifteen glorious (for the other B12 schools) years. This is the last season any of these Lilliputians wil have any possibility of impact on Texas. I’m sure they know that.
  15. Seriously, something is happening. I remember, in 1995, when the program had an upswing after a decade in the doldrums, everyone was surprised at the demand for Texas Football- viewership, tickets, t shirts, loot. It was enough to launch a network! If we’re on another upswing, we will show everyone which one of OUT was the desirable one, which one is “USC” and which is “UCLA”. it’s hard to imagine a dramatic increase in demand for Longhorn football, but…get ready for a dramatic increase in demand for Longhorn football. My fear is that the IR8 and Yormark can see the avalanche coming and use their influence for the rest of the season to put on some brakes.
  16. It’s ok. With Texas gone, Kansas will bring half of that 1.8 million, right?
  17. When a ranked KU team comes in and plays at UH,…they’re not getting 1.8 million viewers
  18. Yeah, those TT-UH numbers… That’s not good.
  19. I’m curious about the timing- what happened first? Yormark deciding not to come? Or Sankey deciding to come?
  20. I don’t blame Yormark. Traditionally, he would be hosted by the university president(s). (I know the CB really doesn’t have suites, but I assume there is some kind of box at least for the UT and OU biggest shots?) However, if they’re hosting Sankey, I don’t know where Yormark is supposed to go (I’m assuming Sankey will alternate boxes through the game). Plus, he really doesn’t want to hang out with the UT and OU brass, anyway. In my dream scenario, Sankey goes down to the field, and introduces himself to the officials, already knowing their names. I think that would send a clear message.
  21. Kind of a flex by Sankey. My concern is that it gives Yormark and the B12 office cover to screw Texas. OTOH- Maybe the officials will be smart enough to figure out that the commissioner of one of the two conferences that matter is watching and paying attention?
  22. That’s true; doesn’t matter. To the B12 office, Texas is the villain and OU is just misled.
  23. We saw this 25 years ago- Texas had been down for a while, and then we got good and the whole Longhorn proposition exploded. I have no idea how big it will get if we do it again.
