  1. I have a car that only has transistors in the stereo and amp. - it's a deathtrap I'll take all the tech I can get in every other vehicle. @52-80 comment about diagnostics and the value of mechanisms over software is valid for a shrinking sliver of the population. Open the hood on most new cars and you won't be looking at anything mechanical. You're looking a fascia and 99% of the folks with those cars will NOT be looking behind the plastic curtain. The first thing any mechanic does is plug in ODB2 and read the codes off the COMPUTER. Gone are the days of the shade tree mechanic. Skeeter has a laptop. Tesla's have fewer parts and better diagnostics and certainly more data leading up to a fault. Unless they spaghetti code the fuck out of it the car should get better and better. The sheer pool of data developed by users should also allow Tesla to ID problems and fix them in future version much faster (will they? IDK, but they have a massive information advantage over ANY other car company) Yup electric motors are mechanical things and can/will fail, but they are also relatively simple mechanical things compared to gas engines. I do love my strictly mechanical deathtrap though.
  2. Is the OP really sure he wants any part of this crazy... just another day in paradise.
  3. PFFFTTT Evacuate? I'm in a mandatory evacuation zone and I only left for Irma. It looked like a direct hit, but jogged west and I actually had to evacuate back to Ft Lauderdale after I bought my buddy in Ft Meyers Pizza, beer, and helped him put his shutters up. Dorian had me watching waiting and sweating and if that had come in on S. Florida it would have been a catastrophe. But I didn't even put up a singe shutter. Any big storm that hits Dade/Broward is going to be a massive problem. FP&L blows and any storm will take out power here (most lines are above ground and not maintained well) In S. Florida you can go West to Ft Myers/Tampa, North to Orlando if it's going low, or South to the Keys. Yes I have evacuated to the Keys... We went fishing and had a great time while Palm Beach was getting pummeled. Or if you want, just get on a plane and be on the other side of the continent. Also I'm not advocating FOR S. Florida... just providing a view from a long time resident. No one here (S Florida) would be unhappy if you moved somewhere else. Doesn't need to be said but Florida is full of angry crazy people from other places.
  4. I'd think about Ft Myers. Lauderdale is nice if you have the means to live EAST (Rio Vista, Sunrise Intercoastal, Las Olas, Victoria park, Coral Ridge, Seven Isles, The Landings, Bay Colony) Otherwise the micro climates out west are rainy & hot and you might as well move to any old suburb in a fly over state. As for traffic... yup we got some and it gets worse when the snowbirds show up in force. But I almost never go west of I-95 so it's not so bad. (Heck I almost never go west of US-1 ) I'd look at Jupiter also. Funky sleepy town. (Home of bob Craft's hand-job emporium) Great boating, beach, and surfing. Perhaps a little on the small side. Bonus pick.. Hillsborough Shores in Pompano or Lauderdale by the Sea (funky throw-back town just north of Lauderdale on the beach) - You'll be well dead by the time sea level rise gets sporty.
  5. Don't limit yourself... Narrator: They are continuously accelerating/decelerating with some coast time for "flip & burn"
  6. Sounds like Ms Laxtono is a little dirty too...NICE So you picked up 3 different strains in the same year and blame your kids? You do know they have vaccines, right? (match & drift, blah blah) I am sorry to hear of your impending doom. We'll pencil you in on the wreath fund.
  7. Watch out for the Elephant walk
  8. Respect Yeah I just looked it up... saw that it was broken down into legs. Safer I guess and easier to manage Lol that would be a legendary cluster fuck. I just figured cutting the corner, avoiding the gulf stream, and protected water would make that the preferred route... I thought they might take that out for sporting purposes.
  9. Id' like to do the Worrell 1000 ... But oh man that might be a beating
  10. How long is that taking? Would be a lot of fun just after a coldfront (strong NW wind) Are you allowed to run inside Hawk Channel?
  11. Fantastic documentary. First one to turn on their light dies...
  12. Good news everybody! We're running ahead of forecast. March madness is going to be cray cray
  13. There are accounts of US Black soldiers moving German WWII POWs in the US. One involved the German prisoners allowed to eat in the AC at a small dinner while the black solders had to eat in the kitchen and were only allowed to watch the prisoners through the pass through. That is the story of today's GOP.
  14. Hilary told them the truth. They couldn't handle being treated like adults.
  15. I'm sure it's going to be sticky enough
  16. When did people get so darned sensitive?
  17. Was reading a Scientific American article. It seems the genie is likely out of the bottle, we are probably witnessing a new human virus that will continue to circulate. Well we have the DNA so hopefully a vaccine will eventually be available.
  18. You'll have a great time. My recommendations: Take them for what they are worth, others on this thread have a lot more experience than I do... Rome: Go get some Supli in Trastevere Get a walking food tour on the 1st night help you get your bearings and try some stuff you'd probably never find. Then you can re-visit later Wanted to do this Villa D'Este in Trivoli *there are NO water pumps* Save this for the plane... The more you know .gif Tuscany: Loved Pienza, but it's tiny. Siena One of the best meals I've had in Italy. ... Osteria Da Divo Quiet afternoon outdoors... Really enjoyed just relaxing bring bathing suit Bagni San Flippo I liked visiting Siena, but I would want to stay in a smaller town or in a villa in the countryside. You'll need a car in Tuscany anyways. Avoid ZTLs Florence: EABOD don't speed, better yet don't drive in or near Florence Wasn't my cup of tea, when I was there it seemed more crowded and Disney-like
