Constructive difficult conversations are shut down by a lack of critical thinking skills and a pandering to emotionalism. Maybe what you are describing is a part of that but it’s a whole bigger ball of shit of a problem in our society than this one topic and the guilt cuts far, wide and deep.

100%. At some point the adults really need to step back in charge or we're just going to continue to drive off the cliff. As noted earlier, most of these kids have never experienced actually racism and would not know it if it hit them on the head (insert predictable spooky ghost voice calls of racism from the usual suspects), and these kinds of histrionics actually dull claims of actual racism. This is basically our Juicy Smalls moment and we have to decide if we're going to be rational or go along with the performance. As daddy said - only one way to stop a bully is to punch it in the mouth.

  2. Am I the only one more interested in what Nicole did to trigger all the CR betas?

I tried to listen to the podcast. I thought it was more entertaining than the story.

    1. I had no idea what "vocal fry" was until apparently it was invented for this chick - I just though it was 976-voice.
    2. I love the fact that the Zoomer podcaster fanciers herself some sort of Edward R. Murrow with her three years of online "journalism" experience - helps explain why the average 'murican is so woefully misinformed
    3. Her solo catfight with everyone else talking about the story is epic.

What is it about the Texas culture that is also part of the problem?

You clearly have not been paying attention. You can't win football games in a culture of micro-aggressions and trigger warnings. Beta males don't get laid or win national titles.

  4. Does anyone know the background of why adoption is so incredibly difficult and expensive in general? We have friends who had to go overseas because it was too expensive and difficult here as well as friends who did a couple of private adoptions. Not a panacea, but feels like adoption basically should be free. I understand they need to do background checks, etc., but should it really be expensive?

On foster care, no idea ... do every consider returning to orphanages? I am sure there are unique drawbacks but might at least be able to provide a consistent, steady experience for most kids. I used to volunteer at the Methodist Home in Waco, and they did a pretty good job as far as I could tell.

Well, the same shit happened in Europe too. No one gives a fuck about the Picts and Celts up behind that Roman Wall.

No one gives a fuck about Saxons that got run in 1066.

Or Germanic tribes that got pushed all over the place.

No one gives a shit about everyone that got run by the Mongol horde, killing some 10% of the population of the world.

It happens everywhere.  It's human nature.

Beat me to it. Guess what? Humans are dicks. Africans sold slaves to Europeans. Indigenous people "colonized" each other. What we call "native Americans" just happened to be the ones standing when Europeans arrived but in most cases they took the land from the last guys. I'm not excusing shitty behavior but also not so ignorant and naive to pretend like this is some sort of uniquely European behavior.

  6. So I came across this and watched seasons one and two. I think I must have started season one a while ago - I remember a few things like Brittany and the bar but did not recall the story. I thought it was entertaining, and I could watch Billy Bob Thornton or Tania Raymonde anytime. Not sure if I have the energy for season three. The most annoying things for me were the MacGuffin's and other stupid actions.

    Season one:

    • How, when, or why was Cooperman burned?
    • Why does he hate Billy?
    • The defense was uber confident in its case until the end - it really needed to kill the plaintiff?
    • Why even do the fake suicide and just say there was a fault boat and pay the widow and kids $10M?
    • Dwight Yoakum is going to just spill everything randomly and McBride can magically turn on a recorder without him noticing?

    Season two:

    • What's the relationship between Gabriel and Marisol? - for a few minutes I thought she actually was the kingpin and he was just an "actor"
    • Why does world's greatest drug dealer have to suddenly leave town? Was that just a "movie set" - why? She should have just taken him to Oaxaca and claimed she was from there but everyone she knew is gone.
    • Who was the "middle" guy - forget his name but the cop's best friend - just some random middle man between him and Wyatt?
    • These guys can kill a kid in prison but can't take out a random errand guy without some complicated frame job?
    • WTF kill Lou Diamond Phillips? It is not like parental alibis are uber credible on their own.
    • The magical super agent lawyer that went crazy knows everything?

Fun pulp but so many loose ends. I've overthinking it but it could have been really good if some basic plot points passed the common sense test.

I’m down 30 pounds in the last 6 weeks or so. Saw my daughter sneak eating at night on her way to being overweight at 10 years old and decided- I will not model that behavior for her.
My marketing rep saw me today and was like- you look so much better whatever you are doing keep it up. That put a bounce in my step all day and motivated me to exercise even though I worked late and couldn’t start until 8:15 in a way being fat shamed wouldn’t have.
fat people walk around feeling shame at all times you don’t have to let them know they are fat- they are already keenly aware. Encouragement though?  That’s priceless.

Congrats. If we did not live in Idiocracy, it would be possible both to not fat shame and to not encourage poor health. But this is 'murica where we just make shit up to be pissed about.

Although it goes agains my principles, I'm starting to think "ends justifies the means here" to put an end to this bullshit. I'm over idiot zoomers and their Grievance-Industrial Geppettos.

    Apologize for the slight diversion:

I've long been interested in another type of "mob", the outlaw biker gangs.  Hell's Angels, Mongols, etc.

Several great books in that genre, including "Under and Alone".

It's slightly-less-organized crime, mostly because many  of the criminals are dopers.  I don't think that the italians tolerate that much.

The OG podcast mentioned in the OP does a few episodes on the 1% gangs. I infered from a couple other episodes there might be selective cooperation.

  11. I randomly listened to that episode even before this thread, and it was very interested. We lived in Chicago and KCMO so always interested in what is going on there. It was a shame he completely skipped Texas but not sure much is left these days.
