  1. So has the culture just completely changed? The conventional wisdom always was you only leave the Mob one way, but there seem to be a lot of very public ex-mob guys ... is it just so impotent they don't even worry about capping guys that leave and run their mouths?
  2. Is the thought we're going to leave to meet an arbitrary deadline regardless of the human cost? This makes zero sense.
  3. I'm actually shocked they have not done this already. Granted, I've never shot a mortar, but it seems like one could like up and just shoot two or three down the runway and some would hit, and everything is done.
  4. Meh. We made the mistake of picking this off of a web site because I let the wife pick the movie. It was obvious from the get-go that Jake was the Janitor. It was just a tortuous two hours of bloviation on things like the new swing set at the old house. I thought the ending made sense - just like the pigs on the farm, he died from sitting still. Like the pigs, he died a slow, agonizing death because he never moved, never left home. Basically like a lot of artsy movies takes a simple concept and tries to outsmart itself with a bunch of boring, unattractive actors and obscure references to literature only an English major or Brooklyn barista would enjoy.
  5. I always figured at some pools lifeguards paid to work there ...
  6. This sounds like a obviously stupid "no shit" response, especially to someone with your experience ... but that was the one thing that never really landed with me (and probably 99.9% of the laity) until I read more details about specific battles and wars ... how wars largely are won as much or more by logistics as the front lines. Even in college classes it was just sort of assumed that all those soldiers had magically, unlimited supplies of food, ammunition, fuel, clothing, medical supplies, etc. Concur that the spin seems to be the plan was perfect, but the Afghan army quit and foiled its perfection.
  7. Anyone ever had good / bad luck with extended car warranty ... not the robo-dial ones but at least quasi-legitimate ones offered through ostensibly reputable businesses. The experts seem to say "no" that they are not worth it for virtually all consumers, but curious if there are any contrarian anecdotes / experiences? Thanks.
  8. I'm pretty sure this is the textbook definition of money laundering (and I just finished a Sopranos re-watch, so #expert).
  9. That's likely the end game. Will send them a few billion to free our hostages.
  10. People's moral compasses are amazing. Butthurt over a word on a message board but Karen-induced theft totally cool.

  13. I lived in Meyerland for a summer. This was a crazy story(ies). https://www.gonecoldpodcast.com/2021/07/18/death-in-houston-high-society-preface-2-the-murder-of-jacque-mossler/
  14. Ray Liotta would have made a better Ralphie IMHO. I thought he was one of the characters that felt like a little bit of a stretch - Pantaliano got close to the caricature line of trying to make Ralphie a psycho and top earner.
  15. This is crazy. Leach will win more than five.
  16. In fairness, Texas Monthly has not been worth using as toilet paper for two decades.
