Went to the game today, this team sucks so hard. All I got.

I went to every game this series. Great seeing Othani. Thursday was the nadir of Rangers baseball ... the muffed easy bunt play at 3B, the dropped single in RF, the missed ball to 2nd, and whatever that was on the bunt to first when the pitcher was not looking for the pall the 1B put it in the dugout. I was looking for Chico's Bail Bond's on the back of the jerseys.

I lived in fear of one of my embarrassing elementary school portraits ending up in a TGI Friday s in 2080, but dick-shaming an ancient warrior is just harsh. At least I'm not a warrior and no one will have any reason to posthumously discuss my little johnson.

Mob buffs, any theories on what real NYC Crime Family Phil/Johnny Sack’s family was modeled after?

I would say the Gambinos, but they borrowed stuff from all 5.

From what's I've read the DiMea family was loosely based on the Boiardo family, which would make the New York crew more akin to the Genoveses. However, agreed that story arcs were inspired by a couple fo Jersey families and all the New York ones. I think Chase took bits and pieces from different guys and events.

  4. This could be really interesting: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/ncaabk/tim-cowlishaw-a-big-12-merger-with-pac-12-it-may-be-messy-but-this-rumored-marriage-feels-meant-to-be/ar-AAN2cz2

Basically has divisions of XII, Texas+Arizona, Washington+Oregon+Utah, California+Colorado. Do something like others have tried: play your division schools every year and rotate division for other conference games. Maybe for non-football you overweight or only play yours + other division to help with travel.

Where does this narrative come from?  The court documents show they earned less than 1% more revenue then the men but were paid a higher percentage of that revenue.

    "From 2015-2019"

    M - $18 million $212,639 per game

W - $24 million $220,747 (this number excludes at least $1,364,000 - paid for NWSL contracts of 22 players)

The judge also pointed out they had literally rejected the exact same deal as the men and negotiated for different things.  Like guaranteed salary, health care, child care and NWSL contract boosts.  He did find things like hotels, transportation and meals were not equal and the lawsuit for those could continue.  The top ten salaries for USNT players are dominated by women.

Most don't have a problem with equal pay, and fully support it.  It's using lies to make your point that rubs people the wrong way.

    Stupid question:

    Spoiler

Who actually pays them? Does the U.S. Olympic Committee get all its money from sponsorships, etc.? It's not public, right? I honestly have no idea how our Olympic team is funded.

We win our yearly Most Valuable Franchise! The true award Jerry cares about09598090da7a285ac5fe02874f92e1f8.jpg

I get that Jerry does not care because he likely will be in carbonite underneath the 50-yard-line star, but ... the Cowboys were consistently good from 1970 until Jimmy left ... those "America's Team" fans will not be around forever, and his Stephen and Jerry Jr. are going to watch the bottom fall out from a two generations that have zero interest in the mediocrity brought by that pig-fucking, Wal-Mart-shopping, Skeletor-copying idiot.

It’s strange. I was asking my 13-year-old son the same question. He didn’t have a good answer.

First movie killed itself so had to replace it.

It is pretty amazing how no one seems concerned that he killed around 10,000 seniors in New York and attempted to cover it up.

I found Meadow to be a great character in terms of what other characters felt about her.  She had Tony's brains with almost none of his baggage.  Could have been a worthy heir to his throne had she been born a boy (I'm going out on a limb and assume that La Cosa Nostra, despite their enlightened progressiveness on so many other social issues of the day, adheres to cisgender roles.  He admires her independence and dedication, but she's still his little girl and he wants to direct her life as he does everyone else's.  Their most complex dynamic was when she started dating Jackie Junior.  Tony was truly torn on that.  It was he always preached about keeping it within the larger "family" with people you know and trust, from good stock.  Then again, he never really wanted that life for his children because Meadow was a girl who would become a lawyer or doctor and A.J. could fuck up a drumstick.  In the end, she ends up with the son of a made guy but neither is directly involved in the lifestyle.  I think that gives Tony peace that she has the best of both worlds.  He knows the boy and knows they're heading for a great life together on the straight and narrow.

She is making her own way in the world of education and work, making her mother wonder "what if" about her own life.  Meadow almost always has a boyfriend but she is always the dominant figure in the relationship, again at her mother's envy.  Meadow has an active social and philanthropic life in upper-tier circles, whereas her mother gets her friends from whomever happens to be marrying/dating her husband's work associates.

Meadow really holds up an interesting mirror to her parents in very different ways.  My favorite Meadow storyline though is when she tells Mom and Dad about her incident in Little Italy.  She's all growns up, but Tony looks across the breakfast table and sees that moment of fear and vulnerability in the eyes of the strongest woman he's ever known.  And he doesn't act out as a Boss saving face.  He acts out as a Dad, curb stomps the first guy and almost murders the other little guy.

Plus she was smoking hot.  I ran into her getting takeout in Bee Cave the other day, she is aging extraordinarily well.  Texas sun been better to her than Jersey.

Agreed. She would have been a fantastic Dona(?). Too lazy to look up the name, but the closest we got was the capo in Johnny's crew whose murder started the war. I really thought the show did a great job of avoiding (I think there is a technical term) stock characters for virtually everyone. Even the minor ones have a depth and complexity frequently lost on TV. As a father with similarly aged kids, I could resonate with Tony and Carmela's roller-coaster with Meadow and A.J.

  10. CSB Trigger Warning:

    Spoiler

Years ago I drove for Uber a few weekends just for shits and giggles ... and frankly hoping to pick up some ridiculously hot chicks from clubs and hope for back-seat make out session, but I digress. I picked up an <triggerwarning>Asian</triggerwarning> lady from her day job and dropped her off at her "house" in North Dallas. She basically shared 8-12 people live there off and on and most of the house is used for various crafts, etc., things that the "boss" or whomever would sell. She made necklaces and beads and other "imported" stuff. Probably a lot of darker stuff going on there ... before you ask, no you would not have wanted a happy ending from her. #noracist

  11. How long it takes people at Costco to fill up their gas tank. I stopped going there because of these people:

    • Always pulls up to the wrong side and needs the attendant to explain the long hose and usually help
    • Never thinks to get the Costco card out while waiting for 30 minutes so +3 to find card
    • +15" to figure out whether it is scan or tap card
    • +15" to debate low or high octane fuel ... "what's this diesel thing?"
    • Starts to fill the tank and returns to the driver's seat; +2 to get out after the pump clicks off
    • Top, top, top off - +15"
    • +30" trying to figure out how to get the long hose around the car without chocking and returning it to the holder
    • +15" debating whether or not to get a receipt
    • Then the worst ... the finale ... the denouement ...  the magic ritual must be done for 5 minutes between getting back in the care and leaving - is this some sore of cosmic communication window? What are people doing?
