  1. Glad that you are home now and wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
  2. FIFY I'm sure that they will find out which party to blame soon enough.
  3. A more likely scenario is that the russian stole the nork's provisions and the nork laughed at him and told him that he was eating dog food.
  4. Kinda fucked up that some of y’all are joking about a local special needs kid getting stabbed to death. And yes, I know where I am.

  6. Cantilever it over Town Lake.... water taxis and gondolas.
  7. I agree with this. If @Jiggy-Z is willing to work for someone else, I can guarantee that a large GC that self-performs their concrete work would hire you in an instant and pay you well. That would be for estimating and/or PM work. I'm thinking of companies like Hensel-Phelps, DPR, Spaw-Glass, Austin Commercial. I know you've worked in this arena before and you may have some contacts already. This is in addition to big forming companies like United Forming, CapForm, and your bigger concrete companies like Ceco. Experienced people with your background are hard to find. You would be a great hire. Best of luck and well wishes for you and your wife. I hope it all works out. edit to add: You may think that working for another company might be a step backwards for your career. But you may like sliding into retirement working for someone else and not having to pay the bills, run HR, logistics, contracting, and all of the other 'stuff' you do when running your own business. You might find it to be so easy that you actually enjoy yourself.
  8. Good. Fuck him. I lost a good friend to that bombing in Beirut. RIP PFC Billy Stephlug.
  9. $79k and it can be yours. Beautiful boat. Docked on Lake Travis.
  10. Looking for some advice here. I'm selling our 2002 Crusers Yacht 3870 (40' cabin cruiser) that's on Lake Travis. What would be the easiest way to a quick sell? Asking price will be about 20% less than Boat Trader for same make/model. It's mechanically sound but not 'updated' with modern lighting, flooring, electronics. I've been told that boat brokers wont deal with older boats. So is Boat Trader my best route? Anything else? The marina wont let me 'For Sale' it on the dock.
  11. I just had an oh-shit-moment. We're traveling to Africa at the end of October. I'll be renting a car and they accept US drivers licenses so I'm good with that. I was filling out some travel paperwork and realized that my license expires on my birthday in the beginning of October and this is the renewal cycle that I have to do in person at the DMV. No biggie - it's August. Plenty of time. NOPE. Earliest appointment in Austin metro is January 2025. Fuck me. It looks like I'm taking Monday off of work to drive to Frederiksberg and I consider myself lucky to have gotten an appointment so soon. Thanks allot Obama hot wheels.
  12. This reminds me of one of the funniest things I heard in a meeting. This guy that had one foot in and one foot out said (rather seriously) "Nothing fucks with your drinking more than AA."
  13. Here’s that 9mm Hi Point I bought. It’s a lot of fun and cheaper than South Austin’s mom.
  14. Will you give me $15k (just the tip) to maintain a road that I don't drive on - on a piece of property that I can't sell? But yes, it does make me feel petty and unappreciative which is why I'm here looking for advice.
  15. We have a similar issue with my wife's family ranch. My FIL gave his 500+ acre Hill Country ranch to his three daughters (one of which is my wife) - all undivided interests. My FIL is still alive and actively ranching the land with around 100 cow/calf operation. The ranch is complete with two houses, barns, and all the associated ranching infrastructure. He gave the property to his girls in an estate planning effort to reduce inheritance taxes on the eventual date of his passing. As the story usually goes, my wife does not get along with one of her sisters - at all! My wife wouldn't mind being bought out by her sisters, but they can't afford it. Her sisters have no intention to sell and want to pass the land down to the next generation. That feels good but it doesn't pay the bills. Our problem is that eventually the maintenance on this place is going to get expensive. Wells, pumps, solar panels, roads, fences, barns, tractors, etc. - all require upkeep and maintenance. As an example, my sister-in-law recently got a quote for $40k for repairing and upgrading the access roads. They own a neighboring property and have a vested interest in keeping the roads tip-top. We don't. Currently, my FIL handles all the ranch expenses with the cattle business. But that can't last forever. If we can't sell after my FIL passes away, it could be a big liability (financially for me). There is a hunting lease that covers the property taxes but the rest will be 33% ours. We seem stuck and I don't see a way out. No doubt I'm missing something. I keep suggesting that we grow pot, but that idea hasn't gotten legs yet with my wife's family.
  16. I spent an evening drinking with him at the Tremont Hotel bar in Galveston. We were watching a Texas Rangers game. He was drinking shots of tequila. His response to me telling him that I voted for him was "Yeah.... if you and everyone else that has told me that actually voted for me, you would be sitting here drinking with the Governor of Texas right now."
  17. Thanks for nothing guys. I just bought a new Hi-Point 9mm carbine and 1000 rounds of ammo based on this suggestion. $330 ttl (Gragagun) and $260 (Academy) respectively.
  18. First, thanks for asking. It was emotional and draining for everyone involved - especially my mother. She was (and still is) a mixed bag of angry, sad, and confused. She's been in her new place since Monday. At the advice of the staff, we involved her in the moving process in the days leading up to her move date. She helped the best she could in picking out pictures, or particular pieces of furniture, etc. to take with her. My wife did a great job in making the new space reflect her personality and filled it with items that she cared about the most. On the surface my mother loved her room. She's most confused about the "why". "Why are you doing this to me?" We had come up with a story to tell her about how the assisted living unit was going to be under construction soon and it was going to be too noisy and disruptive for her to stay. Logically she asked why my father was staying and we just laughed it off and said that he can sleep through anything. She doesn't believe any of it. It's the best we could do. My father visits her an hour in the morning and an hour after lunch. He's purposefully not spending too much time with her in the hopes that she will participate in some of the activities going on and get to know the staff and other residents. This is the worst part. Most of the other residents on her floor are really out of it. Non-communicative. In that respect, my mother doesn't belong. She is unable to complete a coherent sentence, but if you know her you understand what she's trying to say. She calls the lobby "downtown" and "yellow" might mean vegetables. It's mostly gibberish but you can tell that she's still putting together pretty complex thoughts and has deep emotions. It's really sad to see her eating lunch with people that cant lift their heads and she KNOWS she's not like THEM. It's as if there should be a place that is 'somewhere in between'. I feel guilty. My father feels guilty. My wife feels guilty. My mother feels angry and betrayed. It sucks. But all-in-all everything went about as well as we could have hoped. How about them apples?
