  1. Agreed. And maybe it does help the development pathway. I think I read where USL is putting more kids into European clubs than MLS...
  2. Playing with u19's on our local MLS academy team. If he steadily progresses, they are telling him he could get a few minutes with 2nd team this summer...
  3. Supposedly, they are going to invite a ton of universities into this mix. Several college scouts have told me this. The universities dont believe the NCAA has any legs to stop them...
  4. Great advice here...thanks!! Lots to consider for sure. Most notably that the track record here has been abysmal for home growns. Not a single home grown player has made the first team in over a decade. Two years ago, wholesale changes in the academy were made and the new academy director seems to really have his stuff together. So that will be changing as several kids under 18 are playing and excelling with the 2nd team. Update, HE chose the MLS Academy. Came up with a pros and cons list, talked to the academy directors from both clubs and made, what seems to me, a very informed decision. Gotta say, I'm pretty proud of his maturity for a kid that just turned 15. He is a number 10 though since we have made the move, he has been playing primarily as a "false 9" or out on the left wing. First two games, he played with his age group, but the next three has been with the u19's...starting and playing the full 90. Has picked up one goal and two assists so far... He is practicing in the AM sessions with the an integrated 2nd team/u19 workout. They tell him if he keeps progressing, he could get a few minutes with the the 2 by summertime... Fingers crossed...
  5. Question for those with futbol knowledge as mine is very limited... My son just turned 15. He plays for a non-academy team that plays its games in MLS Next. This non academy team is new (<3 years old) but they have serious money backing them and they have international alliances (mostly in Spain and Mexico). My son is now starting to play with the u19 team, which is a very good team, and discussions are being had for him to start working out twice a week with the USL2 team... All of this sounds great, however, the local MLS academy team is also recruiting my son heavily. They say he would practice with u18s and get some game minutes + play games with his proper age group (u16) in the MLS Next league. My question to the group is, what do you think is the better pathway? USL2 and then possible international clubs? Or local MLS academy and their pro pathway?
  6. Interestingly, you almost never hear of a pro soccer player who "didnt pick up the game" of soccer until he was 15-16. That athletic trait does seem to flow that way very often. Maybe because the eye to foot trait has to be learned from an early age? And before you get all get pissed for "derailing" the thread, I'm doing my part to get us to a 1000.
  7. 8 fricking days for me. I have a small generator and a window unit so that saved me, but the five of us (wife, MIL, myself and two teenage boys) and my two dogs in the master bedroom for eight days... I was seriously contemplating a drano cocktail.
  8. Holy shit. That dude died? Man, he was a lunatic poster that perfectly embodied every stereotype of Aggy. Sux the he's dead but man, he was "off the charts" insane with his rants...
  9. My dad almost killed me when I said I was going into the oilfield. He was a Drilling Fluids guy for 42 years.
  10. Churros are proof that God exists and he loves us...
  11. Pics 1, 2, and 3 are the cathedral of Segovia. Pics 4, 5, and 6 are the Castle Manzanares el Real. Pic 7 is Catherdral of Segovia. Pic 8 is Castle Manzanares. Pic 9 is a dish called Iberico Secreto at La Mi Venta restaurant in Madrid. Pics 10 and 11 are wide city views close to the Cathedral of Madrid. If you go to Segovia, it's definitely amazing but make sure to drive to Castle de Manzanares. Old castle, semi restored, beautiful museum and amazing views from the turrets... https://www.spain.info/en/places-of-interest/manzanares-el-real-castle/ The drive to La Sierra de Guadarrama National Park. Mountain views, probably still snow at the summit, and widlife... https://www.spain.info/en/nature/sierra-guadarrama-national-park/ Also, after leaving the park, and on the way to Segovia, visit the Royal Palace of La Granja of San Ildefonso. Its a beautiful palace and chapel with some amazingly landscaped grounds...and the small city has many shops and restaurants on cobblestone streets... https://www.spain.info/en/places-of-interest/royal-palace-granja-san-ildefonso/ Segovia speaks for itself. https://www.spain.info/en/destination/segovia/ This could be done in a day, but it would be a looong day. I suggest at least two-three days. All of this is within an hour and a half, by car, from Madrid. HAVE FUN and post pics of the trip...
  12. It was really cool. Especially considering that, because I never played soccer (just American sports), he tends to completely disregard anything I might say about soccer that is any way tactical...😒
  13. Thanks. I mentioned to him at breakfast, to play close attention to the goalies line. I was flabbergasted that he actually listened to me and caught this one playing up too high...
