  1. West campus area: - Alpetra (Mediterranean food truck with picnic tables outside), very good. - Kerbey Lane - Goodall's (bar/american food, not bad) - Moody's (so-so) Usually can't guarantee no lines but with our tiny-shitty-if-any bowl bound team playing Kansas, you might be the only ones in there wherever you go. Edit: I don't think El Patio's bad at all. At the least I've had far worse.
  2. After watching the latest chewing out by the judge, I swear, and I'm not joking, that the Assistant DA is actually this guy:
  3. No big deal. 2/3 of LeBron's Tweezer followers have no idea of who Kyle Rittenhouse is, never mind what year it is or their own name.
  4. Amen, brother! Repressed sexuality, Catholic syndrome and all that. But the lib checks have no morals so there's no games. II believe this is the only relevant angle from which to discuss this potentially new college.
  5. I'd never go there. We all know liberal chicks put out way more than conservative ones.
  6. I think plasma TVs have better color than some of the current ones but they're heavy as shit. I have one just like that then I gave to my daughter. Love that TV! Color is amazing on it. Great TV for the kids and games or whatever. FWIW
  7. Do I have to buy the hearing aids?
  8. See, I'm the opposite... of course I love to hit a grand first choice (who doesn't?) but I grew up partly on a big upright and hated it. You're always facing the wall and it's just confining to me. Once I got a digital it was like a new day. And again the Yamaha I have is so alike to their grands (and I've played a lot of 'em) that I prospered. Don't get me wrong - he's got a free piano and sure, why not use it? But other things considered, I would never rule out a good digital and piano is my main instrument. How people "take" or "feel" with one or the other is probably subjective to the max. If he wants the convenience of a volume (or headphone) controlled instrument, digital is great for that. I can afford a "real" grand (humblebrag) but honestly I like the digital enough that I don't want to jack with the weight and space. Maybe some day, but for now I'm very happy (and i've played pro off/on in my career). So a casual family it works just as good. I guess my main point is that the old upright isn't necessarily "the choice" just because it's acoustic. It takes $$ to keep tuning and keep fit. And I'm not worried about technology making my keyboard obsolete; it's 30 years old and works fantastically as a - piano! The newer ones only improve on that. As to recording, maybe it's semantics, but I don't think using digital instruments are trying to trick anyone. My guess is that 90% of recordings today use digital pianos or keys. In a room where you're giving a Schumann recital, maybe you can tell. But even there sometimes it's tough. Here's a very good YouTube video from a guy that makes a lot of sense. Granted, he's asking you to tell the difference through computer speakers (which renders his point sort of moot). But he still makes some interesting arguments (and he's more or less impartial). If nothing else, it's kind of an interesting watch:
  9. Personal opinion: Uprights - yecch. Not to say they can't be well made, but most of those old manufactured pianos are blech. The sound can be good, but the action isn't reliant on gravity and they can be a mess to restore. If your piano is in top condition and works, I guess you can keep it. However, digital pianos nowadays are so good they're worth the money and in some cases, you have to be pretty trained on the instrument to tell the sound differences between acoustic grands and digitals. Also, it's a misnomer that pianos appreciate with age - the opposite is true. So don't keep it for "antique value." It won't have all that much, unless it's in tip-top shape. If it were me, I'd get a digital no matter what. The sound and action on today's good ones are for the money phenomenal. And in some cases even trained pianists can't tell the difference (especially on tape/recorded). I have one from 1990 and have never looked back. Sure I'd love a grand in here, but this has more than served my purposes and I've played on/off professionally for decades. Suggestions would be to start with the Yamahas for sure. I'm partial to Yamaha grands over any other, and the Yamaha digitals are incredibly good now. I wouldn't get sucked into buying one with tons of amenities (knobs and doo-hickey sound effects), but yeah, they're worth it. You can decide if you want a "furniture" type (full console that often can be removed anyway), or simply a keyboard (buy a stand). As you suggested, the overwhelming advantage is you can plug in headphones and/or turn down sound. Plus if you do get one with some effects, the kids might actually be more drawn to playing it (kids nowadays and their e-stuff). You can look at things like the Yamaha PT or Arius series for less expensive ones, or the Clavinova series for more pricey (and frankly absolutely incredible) ones. I have an old Clavinova with 1990 technology and it still rocks - and is as solid as the day I bought it. Look at this for a primer: https://acousticrealm.com/best-yamaha-digital-piano In the end if you keep the old upright, you'll do okay, but never say the digitals can't sound and play like the real ones. They're damn close if not on mark. Edit: Oh, and I'd always suggest 88 (full) keys... in the old days they had trouble e-duping the highest and lowest notes on the piano keyboard, but nowadays they've nailed it down.
  10. Sorry, I temporarily got it confused with Bozeman but it's still a nice place.
  11. Billings is a kind of nice town. But yeah, it's cold.
  12. Agreed, and of course the Euros had much more technological advantage and could affect much larger groups of people than the indigenous peoples on each other. But the bullshit comes in when it somehow thought that Europeans were meaner or nastier than indigenous peoples. They were not.
  13. Yeah, that one ain't happenin'. Temps in 70's (day)/high 40's (overnight) all thru the weekend. Pretty hard to generate a frigid outbreak around these parts until Dec. → generally. Most of the cities with the brunt of cold air will be in the 40's for highs (i.e. Nashville, St. L, Louisville, etc.), although a few of the more northern ones will have highs in the 30's on Mon. Cold, but not rare for those parts at this time of year.
  14. I'm starting a new college - and rivalry! The U of A Screamin' Hipsters need an annual grudge match. Contributions/donations to: imabaaadboy@bucktooth.aam.edu or paypal to same address. Thank you.
  15. Judging by your screen name, it must have been a very tough decision.
  16. Lots of foreign names in the board of grifters or whatever. I think it's an Islamic Terrorist front, actually.
  17. See, when you're doing your resume, I'd leave this off. You just shot in the foot anything that comes after this.
  18. One of the most interesting things about One of the most interesting things about the Pearl Harbor Memorial is Elvis's part in getting it funded and built. And it was a big part: https://pearlharbor.org/faqs/did-elvis-presley-pay-for-the-arizona-memorial/ https://pearlharborwarbirds.com/the-story-of-elvis-presley-at-the-pearl-harbor-memorial/ Not only did the concert raise (for that time) a boatoad of $, but it informed the country of it, and the money rolled in even more.
  19. Intertribal killing, taking of slaves, raping, pillaging, and all that other good stuff has been around in Africa long before Giovanni Whitebread showed up. Same as in the pre-Columbian Americas. If there's anyone who still believes the myth that the societies were edenic before Europeans showed up fails history miserably. Here's a goody talking about such a massacre in Africa -10,000 years ago. https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/2016-01-21/ancient-massacre-site-in-africa-reveals-violent-tribal-past/7102222
  20. Had high hopes for this. it's terrible. It's like Titanic... A major historical event serves as the backdrop for cheesy, shitty love stories and personal problems. I don't care, not at all. I have no empathy for those people in any way, shape, or form. Get to the killing of humanity. Michael Bay would also be proud, Pearl Harbor was only the backdrop for romance. The only good 45 seconds is when the alien ship messed with the Afghanistan patrol. Someone post on here when there's actually is something to watch. I went over and started Squid Game which is kind of over the top K-pop overacting but it's got a solid plot and lots of things of interest. I mean this thing, this thing is a hot mess.
  21. Kansas is a 31-point favorite for the second half.
  22. Says the game's on ESPNU. Would be more appropriate if it was on Comedy Central.
  23. For the first time in my UT life, which spans almost half a century, I feel we're a basketball heavyweight that happens to have a football program. And there's not much joking in that comment. Go Horns! Cannot wait to see this group.
  24. I agree, they should all get drunk. They might play harder.
