  1. 2.7 " at the ranchero in Bee Cave. Where...
  2. Update: Not much right now, busy but wanted to throw this in: The frontal thing that was responsible mostly for whoever got weekend rains, is around but weak, and fizzling. However, cockblocking situation I mentioned above in place, high west of us will (unfortunately for them, great for us) restrengthen a bit over Western U.S. for a few more days. This results in dry/heat for West, but for disturbances to be squeezed down to us the next few days. That's what's happening today, a very large % of the state receiving rain right now. Amazing tropical soothing rain in Bee Cave the last 30 mins. Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Slow trend to warmer, drier by weekend. But the week remains glorious - under normal temps through Friday, 90° might not even be hit a few of them. Rain chances good through Tues, start declining Wed→Fri. This is fucking glorious weather. Anyone who truly is bitching about humidity, "I feel icky" etc. I will try to personally visit with a face-shovel STFU. It's July. It should be 99° and rain chances = to a Surly-ster banging Sonia Hayek after she's begged 3 weeks for it. I was downtown last night for the fireworks and I cannot fugging remember any 4th that was as pleasant. My god it was nice! Enjoy because it's not going to last. However this summer so far has proven to break all predicted molds. No, not break, shatter into microscopic pieces. Every day like this is one less un-like it. More later. Edit: Salma, Sonia, whatever. The beautiful one with the great rack.
  3. I would too on the Pantheon, because it was almost entirely built by slaves. Labor costs were low. And if a few kicked the bucket on the way, no problem. The current St. Peter's a 1500- 1600 didn't use slaves per se, but probably a lot of serfs, The next step up on the social ladder. Not much better. But at least they got what amounts to maybe a couple hundred $ a month today. The basilicas on the site before that definitely used slaves.
  4. I agree that he "didn't" mess up in going ahead with it, and maybe he figured exactly that this could happen. So in the "glass half full" sense, he got the perp 3 years in (hopefully) pound-me-in-the-ass prison. But in the other sense, he didn't have grounds to proceed criminally (apparently), so they voided his conviction and sentence. So yes, for sure 3 years is better than none. But eventually this was gonna get overturned.
  5. If I read correctly, the deal was that the first DA promised no criminal prosecution if Cosby would talk in depositions for the civil suit. The DA had nothing besides circumstantial evidence go to on since these events occurred so long ago. And he reasoned that nothing that would be brought into court would convict someone, more especially a well-known (and up to that point, well-regarded) celebrity. I.e. he thought he had no case. So he went to Cosby's lawyers to offer this deal - Billy Boy talks to give ammo for the upcoming civil suits (where proof of guilt is much less and he could easily win a few), he gets immunity more or less for criminal, but not civil, prosecution. Cosby's lawyers took it. Cosby's team said hell yeah, and with that immunity given by the DA, told the "truth", or at least his version of it, enough to give the dA ammo to convict in civil court (Cosby's team maintains to this day he got Quaaludes/roofies with the intent of using it for date rape, but never did (yeahsurealrightfineI'msurelol). So their part of the deal was telling him to "tell the truth", so he fessed up to that part. That was the deal that was struck. But then the new DA went rogue and busted the deal and brought him up on criminal charges, reneging on the deal. Although I've just recently slept in a Holiday Inn and therefore am a legal expert, in reality I'm no lawyer so I can't speak to the validity of these verbal deals. But SCOPA said new DA deprived Cosby of due process by proceeding under legal understandings that were breached and therefore infringed on Cosby's rights. Like it or hate it, it seems to be such that I've seen like 250 lawyers on TV, in print, and even a few I know say, "yep, they did a deal - and it was a deal - and they reneged on it, and at that point Cosby had a case. SCOPA said abso-fucking-loutely in their majority opinion. And most lawyers I've read or know say with the way that decision came down, it'll essentially guarantee that Cosby can't be tried criminally for these unless some new evidence comes up w/in statute of limitations (which for almost all of them is passed). I'm not qualified on this, but the overwhelming majority in my reading of legal eagles say SCOPA are correct. Seems like the screw up was the new DA from what I've seen. And it helped me to understand why Cosby's lawyers had him essentially torpedo himself - he confessed to intent but not the crimes themselves, but he gave them something in return on this "deal." That makes sense at least procedurally why they'd have him do it. However, none of this impacts the civil suits, and he's going to lose a shit ton of money.
  6. Second building near the collapsed one being evacuated due to critical structural deterioration: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/search-resumes-145-missing-rubble-florida-condo-2021-07-02/
  7. Famous perv roto-rooter fails to show at Michigan court hearing regarding a sting operation for larceny in which he <allegedly> (har har) participated. Warrant out for his (2nd!) arrest. https://nbc25news.com/news/local/arrest-warrant-out-for-tv-personality-chris-hansen-after-failing-to-appear-in-mich-court He was first arrested for buying mugs and all kinda shit for marketing but not paying the man. https://nbc25news.com/news/entertainment/to-catch-a-predator-host-chris-hansen-arrested-for-larceny Maybe they should pose as online check clearing service and invite him over for a meeting!
  8. Pretty much this. It does seem a little on the high end but not unreasonable. I was thinking around $800 - $900. But as CS posts here, these days everything is more expensive due to labor and or material shortages. The only other thing I would suggest is you might pay a hundred bucks or so to have another tech come out and confirm or refute what the American Home Shield guy said. If you lose it you lose it, but if it saves you two or three hundred it might be worth it.
  9. I never got it either. Of course people buy/rent them to make $ in the summer (I'm about to do that, too) and might spend a week or two there on season; I'm all for that. But living full-time in one, just can't get with that. Blech.
  10. They're gonna take down the other side. Shocked, shocked I tell you: https://abcnews.go.com/US/surfside-building-collapse-latest-search-rescue-resumes-officials/story?id=78626971 Personally, I'd evacuate it first, but I'm not running the project.
  11. Make cell phones and iPads really heavy. That'll get people to exercise and solve the problem completely. And I know, because I lost 50 lbs. about 4 years ago. I'm qualified to say anything I want on this thread, bullshit or not. Because I Surly.
  12. Well, to be fair, Cosby is a better singer than Britney.
  13. Heard it in an interview on the news this a.m. Not sure of the details.
  14. Well, at the very least, she'd be great to take along to bars. She'd be able to hook you up with a few honeys in no time.
  15. They actually heard tapping and a voice saying "get me out of here" last night, but by the time they got to her, she was dead. There's no happy endings here.
  16. Well they fucked around and found out. I don't think they had quite the pitching in Mississippi State had.
  17. Texas was clearly the second best team in the series, but Mississippi State was the best just as clearly. Your power hitting brings back memories of the big boom aluminum bat days of the 80s and 90s. Chris Lemonis can coach, one of the best strategies of player use in the series I've seen in years. See you next year.
  18. You can only take inmate anal for so long. Give the guy a break! Hopefully when he farts now no one knows.
  19. I dunno, I was gonna post an update and my fucking computer threw up all over me. Oh well, try again... Update: First, Bee Cave got a nice direct hit 10 minutes ago. Tiny storm cell but went right over my house. Because it always... (etc.) Bit of a break in the rain as the low that came in moved into N. Mex and fizzled. But we still have that cockblocking situation - big high in the Atlantic off the Carolina coast, and another couple up in the Pac NW. As a result, systems are being generally blocked across the country, but the low pressure over the central continent resulting from being between the 2 highs is keeping things ripe for weather over Texas. The only reason why there isn't more widespread rain today is that there's nothing to trigger it over us, but there is a ton of moisture still being pulled up from the Gulf due to the cockblocking deal. And will continue to be. So the rain today here/there is mostly due to the sun/day heating and they're popcorning from the coast. So, whatever rain we get today and Friday day will be due to that. However, the next players are lining up, again due to the sort of unusual stuck pattern we have - which is berry, berry good to us both temp. and precip. wise. There is a mild cold front that would normally said by 800 miles north of us, but it's going to push down into TX. Today and tomorrow a bit of high pressure has tried/will try to establish itself and so the rain will be pretty scant the next day and a half. But, due to the cockblock, that high really won't get going here and it's going to be pulled west - yet again. So we'll yet again be on the east side of it, and continue to draw up a lot of Gulf moisture, enough for at least a better than avg. chance on an early summer's day here. But when that high vacates tomorrow night, the front will swing down and stall somewhere in Texas. Again, you've heard this record before, but wherever it lands, just under it and to its immediate south, good rain chances are in order. This will be the established pattern for the weekend into Monday. So rain chances for the 4th have trended - UP - and are now into the 70% range. At this point I don't think it'll be a definite rainout of stuff, but it easily could be. More definite by late tomorrow or early Sat. as we see how all this mixes up. So for now: Thur-Fri.: generally pt. cloudy, temps get a little warmer, up near our norm (94°) or even near, but not over 100° Friday (for sure the warmest of the next 4-5 days, then things go back down). Still, I'll take it. Always a chance of daytime heating showers in this setup. Sat-Sun: front settles, provides a trigger, rainier days return, temps stay lower (+/- 90°). Yes, chances of widespread showers/TS's esp. afternoon. Outdoor plans on the 4th 50/50. I'll return with something more pinpoint by the weekend. Don't cancel, but be ready to. Mon: 92 ish, still good chance of rain, but making a slow walk to warmer and drier. Damn nice start to July, in my book. Yes, August and September loom like a 350-lb. blind date. But still...
  20. The ones that are shaped like giant 'X' s are the worst! (Glad tho to see that NHC still uses MS Paint for their sophisticated forecasts!).
