  1. GF and I did 7-8 days in Ireland in late April 2014. The only reservation we had was a rental car and a hotel in Dublin the first night. We drove around by day checking out various points of interest. When the sun go low, we popped into the next town and found a hotel. Then hit the pubs at night. There were always plenty within walking distance. Great fun. You don't need and AirBNB to live like a local in Ireland. Just go to the pub. It's like the neighborhood living room. Lots of them are kid friendly, especially in the smaller towns. YMMV in the summer travel season, but we got our first choice of lodging every single night except one. Our general route was straight west to the Cliffs, then a big loop around the south and back to Dublin for the final night out. All of a sudden I'm craving a pint of Guinness and some fish and chips. 2. Body ups your noradrenaline production (or maybe release?) when you fast. The energy boost is impressive. It’s like nature/evolution giving you exactly what you need to go out and slay a beast for dinner. The effects taper over time. Not sure if it’s because my hormones are fucked, or of my body is no longer in a food panic since my fat burning is fully ramped up and all energy needs are being met. Bernard
  3. I don’t think anyone asked him if he was the fucking Messiah, but he sure ran around offering up that info on his own. Jesus contributed exactly zero to the knowledge base of mankind. Perhaps disproving the geocentric model of the solar system was a bit much for his illiterate, Bronze Age audience. Maybe he could have told them about the existence of North and South America. The existence of two continents with unimaginable natural resources only a boat ride away would have been incredible news to poor folks scratching out a living in Middle East desert. Nope. No time for that. Bernard

  5. Gravity. Advantage: Sir Issac Newton
  6. Jesus didn’t even know the Earth revolved around the Sun. That would have been a nice detail he could have shared with the world. Instead, he let his faithful followers wallow in ignorance for another 1,600 years. Of course when a brilliant thinking man figured out the truth, the Church found him guilty of heresy. His truthful teachings were banned. He was declared a heretic and imprisioned for the remainder of his life. Nice work, JC. Bernard

  8. I was hoping to give you guys an 80 pounds loss update today... ...but the scale says I'm now down 81 pounds. Just had some bacon and pumpkin seeds for breakfast. First food of any kind since last Saturday. A friend is having a birthday party tonight with Pappasito's catering, so I'll be downing some chicken and beef fajita meat and guac for sure. Booze too. Next fast starts tomorrow. Hopefully no hangover. I started a new fast on a hangover once (Golden Nugget roadie). That was a mistake. Bernard
  9. I guess I'm lucky that my divorced parents are 74 and 75 and still going strong. Both are fit and healthy. Both still work (engineer and teacher) because more money is always better, right? Back in 2011 my dad and I were hiking a trail (Spruce Creek Trail to Mohawk Lakes) in Colorado. My dad tells me some whole story about a chick he knows who is Cirque de Solei. Then like 20 minutes later he tells me the exact same story again. I didn't say anything, but in my mind I was like, "Holy Fuck, it this the first sign of mental impairment?". Thankfully, not one incident since then. Maybe it was the altitude, or the physical exertion. His dad had Alzheimers and it was heartbreaking. I wonder how the future will shake out. My mom lives near me, but dad lives in NJ (just outside NYC). Bernard
  10. Use Auto Tempest to search. Dealer should provide CarFax. Toyota dealer should be able to provide service history, if it was performed at any Toyota dealer. Have it inspected by an independent mechanic, or take it to a Toyota dealer if seller is not a Toyota dealer. Use a paint meter to test paint thickness on each body panel. Uneven thickness between panels is a sure fire sign of damage repair. Do not accept anything but factory paint on a car that new. Used car price flexibility varies widely from dealer to dealer. Some won’t give a penny. Others will deal. Do your best, but at the end of the day, when you find the car in the color and trim you want, buy it. https://www.autotempest.com/results?make=toyota&model=avalon&model_kw=&radius=any&zip=77479&keywords=&minyear=2016&maxyear=2019&domesticonly=1&minprice=&maxprice=&minmiles=&maxmiles=&transmission=any&bodystyle=any&saleby=any Bernard
  11. Can I cast the first stone at Adzillatron? Bernard
  12. Appraisal District values are a joke. If anyone tried to negoatate an actual sale price based on HCAD value I would laugh in their face. Alternatively, I might explain that appraisal district values are notoriously inaccurate for the simple fact that no appraiser from the appraisal district has ever even driven by my house, let alone set foot inside it, or even looked at a single photo. The appraisal district has a handful of data points about my house: age, house size, lot size, bedrooms, bathroom, pool, etc. They load some comp data into a computer model and it spits out a value for your house. It’s the same way Zillow determines their value estimates. This is not a real appraisal. Of course even a real appraisal is often a joke. Bernard
  13. Last time I ate was last Saturday. No plans to eat until this Saturday. Decided this time to stay off the scale for a week. Been weighing every morning since New Years. I was a crawfish boil Saturday. Ate a bunch of crawfish. One small potato. Some corn on the cob too. ZERO beers. Only Topo Chico. I was pretty happy with myself for passing on the suds. Then I came home to half of a large leftover cheese pizza that the GF's kids ordered but didn't finish. I scrarfed that mofo. Ugh. Back on track though... Bernard
  14. Most of the people in the church/mosque/synagogue/etc. are just the victims of the scam. I don't hate them, although I sometimes marvel at their credulity. Those standing in front of the congregation on the other hand... Bernard
  15. I'd post up on a good patio somewhere with some cold beers: Pub Fiction; 8th Wonder; West Alabama Ice House; Front Porch Pub; The Ginger Man (now two locations); etc. St. Arnold's is OK, but there are much better options. Bernard
  16. Adzillitron sucked the life out of the stadium from Day 1. It’s only gotten exponentially worse as Belmont discovered how to fill every single second of non game play with either ads or insipid programming. I still go because watching in person is still infinitely better than watching on TV. I’ve been to over 100 Texas road games. Our current game day presentation is amount the worst I’ve experienced anywhere. Bernard
  17. Cops convicted of committing perjury or fabricating evidence should get automatic life in prison. Bernard
  18. I think you mean TREC website, not TAR website. Bernard
  19. As stated above, fill out the TREC contract. There's one specifically for land. After both parties sign, walk it in to any title company and say, "I have a purchase/sale contract and want you to provide title insurance." Deliver earnest money to the title company at the same time. Check made out to title company. Is there an existing survey? If so, deliver that to the title company as well. Bernard
  20. My 42 waist Levi's could technically be buttoned in December, but were WAY to tight to actually be worn in public. By the end of January, they fit nicely. Then they got loose. Ordered another pair in size 40. Been wearing those for a while. Now they are getting a bit loose. Amazon just delivered a new pair in size 38. They are wearable, but a tad on the snug side. I expect them to fit nicely soon. Bernard
  21. Old photo. This is supposed to be about new purchases. http://ar15armory.com/forums/topic/152188-you-like-my-new-shotgun/ Bernard
  22. Really? How hard is it to just ignore them? How unnerving and stressful will it be for her when there are construction crews next door hammering away on a new house for the better part of a year? Bernard
