  1. Edit- I haven’t been following this guy, but evidently he has no shot. StilL like seeing it thrown out there.
  2. Tangentially related to crypto here. A stock I’ve posted about before. Morgan Stanley initiated coverage. I’m a holder.
  3. Who is this referencing? And could someone please tell IT to use some expression other than “hanging around the rim”? Jesus it’s in every other sentence.
  4. I keep calling him Carne Calzada and my Aggy friends hate it
  5. Agreed. This is the week that we would take a step back under Tom Herman. Let’s see if we’ve really left all that behind. Of course I don’t think we ever had a 35 point conference win under RGB, but still.
  6. This from the Lancet lays out why boosters aren’t justified without further testing. It’s signed by multiple prominent people including the two FDA officials that are resigning in protest after devoting their careers to advancing vaccines. This isn’t a fringe position. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)02046-8/fulltext
  7. In addition to the forecasted food and electricity shortages I cited above I think a possibility is that Evergrande is the beginning of the forced deleveraging of their real estate sector. Growth could be dampened severely. The other part that is a real wild card is the whole Taiwan, semiconductor chip situation. Why that could be coming to a head is more of a CR discussion that will upset some people. It would make sense to get their house in order before they make a big move in the next few years. This stuff is part of why Bitcoin/crypto is so fascinating to me. This innovation will have significant geopolitical implications.
  8. It’s not misinformation to say there is little evidence showing benefit as it relates to improvement in outcomes, especially in younger people. Especially as the protection against severe illness and death appears to be intact. If you’re a 25 year old nurse that has had Covid and has had 2 shots you will likely now be mandated to get a booster in several jurisdictions. Is that justified? We don’t know the risk/benefit for these types of people. I hope it all goes smoothly.
  9. Pretty much. Which was disregarded/overruled by a political appointee. My impression is that is pretty rare although others here will know better than me. It’s unfortunate because this decision likely leads to mandates for potentially millions of people without much evidence to justify it.
  10. The on chain newsletter I follow says throughout this latest dip that long term investors have continued buying. Predicts a decent supply squeeze coming similar to last fall. Hodl
  11. Capital flight is a part of it. I also think they want to eliminate access to all perceived competition to their digital Yuan. Much like some of our regulators and legislators like Liz Warren, they seem to think that a CBDC is the only useful implementation of cryptocurrency and anything else is competition. But they have very little in common with Bitcoin and even less in common with some of these smart contract platforms. You see a lot online about how they’re trying to “curb speculation”. It feels to me like they’re trying to rein things in before conditions Get a little rough in China. Xi consolidating power before he can be threatened? There’s news of looming blackouts and food shortages. Not good for stability. fwiw Malmgren is an interesting geopolitics/economics follow. Experience in multiple administrations going back to Nixon I believe. Smart man. Edit- actually he goes back to Kennedy https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Malmgren
  12. This is 100% the approach to take. China is ceding the entire cryptocurrency realm outside of their CBDC to the western world. If we really take the lead it will be a big tech advantage for us going forward.
  13. Yes that’s my girl. A fun fact from a colleague that’s a primary care physician in Dallas. One of his patients is one of the homicide cops on the Dallas shows. He said they eventually opted to stop filming because the show was hurting their efforts. Criminals were learning that if you just shut up, then you’ll get away with it a lot of the time. They depend so much on confessions.
  14. Have been to a decent number of these cities and judging off of what is ranked ahead of it, Montreal is criminally under ranked. Also, I’m guessing political instability and inequality worked against it, but I thought Buenos Aires was fantastic. Decent amount of expats there. On the over ranked side I’d go with San Francisco. Any city that is suffering a mass Exodus of so many of its most talented and successful residents is not a top 20 city in the world. Sorry.
  15. This pretty cool. As of today sending money through Twitter instantly is enabled via an API on the Lightning network.
