  2. On tackle, took me a minute. Well done. On WR, im curious to see if we go for more than one *star* transfer. Last year, we had zero proven returners. Cook had 8 catches but hadn’t learned the offense or shown out well in practice. Moore had shown out in practice but had multiple drops in garbage time. Wingo was a talented 5 star, and ended up getting the most run with Moore. We took 3 transfers. This year, we have two proven returning guys (Wingo and Moore) that are both studs with complete games—talent, attitude, blocking. Beyond that, we have one guy the coaches like and want to include (Niblett), and two talented five stars (Lockett and Ffrench) who are both enrolling early. For recruiting purposes, the coaches would likely give some snaps to the five stars unless they are just totally not ready. With that in mind, would we have the snaps available to justify brining in two premier transfers? I can see us for sure taking a premier speed WR that would add a dynamic to the offense that no one brings (other than Wingo). But given what we have returning and the needs at DT, it would be tough to see us take the same approach as last year. But after typing this out, Sark is getting spoiled with top end talent and I don’t know if he has the discipline to turn away proven offensive firepower that wants to come.
  3. As in, agitating the agent that they couldn’t use Texas as a stalking horse or agitating the family in that they may actually have had to go with A&M?
  4. The level of spin the LSU $9.95ers are putting on the Phillips flip is quite impressive. They are somehow whining that “the only reason recruits flip from LSU is money” but at the same time clarifying “oh but LSU still has a very competitive NIL program and definitely knows what they’re doing” in a bizarre attempt to keep their viewers from checking out. Some of the highlights: - described the appeal of Texas as “they have a lot of resources”, as if it doesn’t matter that Texas is a playoff team with a coach who doesn’t act like a sociopath. - LSU’s still has a great NIL program, and was offering $800k over two years while mean ol’ Texas offered $1m for 1 year because they aren’t fiscally disciplined and LSU is (but still could have matched if they wanted to). - “are you willing to spend an unlimited money on a single high school player, or would you rather find an immediate impact guy in the portal?”. Why not do both?
  5. It would be hilarious if some booster paid the family to cancel the visit for the Kentucky game.
  6. Sadly this has been my experience too. Quality is nowhere close to the original Richmond location, and frankly it’s not worth ordering anything other than the sides. Some satellite bbq locations work out, like Terry Blacks in Dallas, but there is something fundamentally wrong with the Pit Room’s execution.
  7. This thread could very well be about how, despite several buffoons on this board loudly complaining otherwise, this former walk-on safety has been the best player on the field for short stretches despite playing on one of the most talented Texas defenses in recent memory. Or for the Blake Gideon and Dylan Haines jokes. Frankly it’s unbelievable this thread title is said without irony or sarcasm. But I also wanted to highlight and memorialize Taaffe’s postgame remarks in response to that heinous game day sign, because the remarks demonstrate remarkable character and why he is an exemplary representative of this program. For the uninformed, some red ass “blue collar salt of the earth” ag inexplicably brought a sign to College Gameday making fun of deceased Texas walk on Jake Ehlinger, who tragically passed away in a fentanyl-related accident. Obviously this behavior doesn’t represent the entire Texas A&M fanbase. Most alumni would condemn this once understanding the context, and many already have (although I am sure everyone here has met exceptions and can debate in another thread). But unlike most game day signs and taunts, this one actually provokes a reaction. Austin is now a big city but it is still a small community in a lot of ways. The Ehlingers live and work here. If you’ve met this family and know what they have been through in the past, that gameday sign gets even more odious. So in the postgame press conference Michael Taaffe somehow trumps his cathartic performance on the field with remarks far better than anything I could have come up with: “I want to say I feel sorry for the person that posted that sign. I feel sorry for him because I don't know what he's going through, how much he's dealing with in life. To think that that was a good idea, to think that was OK, to think that was appropriate for anything, no matter what rivalry. I just wanted to make that clear." The national media and our fanbase will quickly move on from this win because at the end of the day we just beat a middling 8-4 SEC team. But I felt that Michael Taaffe’s maturity and passion deserves special recognition and it shouldn’t get buried in a game thread. Proud he’s a Longhorn.
  8. I know you probably meant Joe Jamail, but I chuckled the thought of Jamaal Charles throwing a Jamail-esqe tantrum as Brown was “killing himself” in Florida. Fun fact: Ricky Williams is technically a booster and endows a scholarship at the Law School.
  9. Did you like it more over the last decade when rich bayou sleaze lords flexed their miniscule financial muscles for: Jamal Adams, Ed Paris, Eric Monroe, Grant Delpit, K’Lavon Chaisson, and Harold Perkins? This new reality is way, way better. It is more defensible when it’s to keep a local star home. Michigan doesn’t produce many #1 overall prospects. I would hope and expect that we would do the same in a similar situation.
  10. While it would be immensely funny for you to frantically drive around the wrong part of town while your wife’s anger, frustration and disappointment grows, I’m surprised no one has pointed out that “the Bowie” is not located on Rainey Street. The Bowie is in fact located off of West Sixth street… 15-20 min away from Rainey at peak times. You’re clearly not cut out for this. Just hire a professional and stay at home.
  11. Looks to be referring to Lamont Rogers
  12. Lol “A&M with several good wins would get left out but tu with zero ranked wins would get left in!” A&M’s two ranked wins are against LSU and Missouri, both of which can charitably be described as paper tigers. Their margin of victory for their next two biggest wins — Arkansas and Florida — were 4pts and 13 pts respectively.
  13. The audacity to bring this insufferable take to the recruiting forum when you don’t even donate to Burnt Endz… Go back to the cloak room, halfwit.
  14. Who was that LSU cornerback that came on a visit to help recruit other prospects to LSU during the Tom Herman era? A competent and detail-oriented recruiting and personnel department should be able to monitor visitors, suss out any bad influences and promptly remove them. Call me a pessimist but I’m not sure we check that box with everything else going on for the game. Better to not take the chance with higher-risk guys like Gibson.
  15. LSU and Ole Miss are two of the top fake-injuries teams in the country, that will be an exciting matchup. Bodies will hit the floor left and right.
  16. Not counting on Clark as anything more than a lottery ticket seems the sound course of action, unfortunately. Achilles injuries are brutal, and I can’t think of any examples of players coming back strong after surgery, right? Jonathan Gray was never the same after his.
  17. Don’t hate, Chris Perry is a good guy and has a big presence in Austin beyond just Perry’s (which started in Houston). i saw Mannings eating at Verdad (one of his other restaurants). If it’s good enough for them, it’s probably good enough for the recruits. Also, if you tell me you’ve never crushed a Friday lunch special pork chop and followed up with a couple of spicy margs after a rough week, I don’t believe you.
  18. Is this conjecture? Neither Terry nor Mcutcheon are currently listed as attending.
  19. This would be weird because the one knock on Hudson coming out was speed. As good as he is/was, he’s not a burner and actually went out of his way to avoid running 40s at camps and events. If anything he’s like a smaller, more polished Kaliq Lockett
  20. USC came out in a Bear front against Michigan for a lot of the second half and Bear only played 21 snaps for the entire game. There is a joke to be made here, but thinking of one is too much effort so I’m just going to quit halfway and enter the portal,
  21. There has been a lot of chatter about how our DL, and specifically Trey Moore, do not have enough sacks and have generally been underwhelming in the pass rush. I don’t think people realize just how few true sack opportunities there have been so far this season. Opposing offenses, because of a combination of lack of passing ability and the sound defensive play of our back 7, are avoiding lengthy drop backs and instead scheming up quick passes or rollouts that do not give our line traditional sack opportunities. Looking at Trey Moore’s snaps in the ULM game as an example, there was arguably just one play where he could have been in position to make a sack or a pressure (2:00 left in second quarter). On all other passing plays: he was double teamed (1 time on the A. Hill sack), the pocket rolled or QB scrambled away from his side (3), the pass was out in <1 sec (3), or he was in coverage responsibility and not rushing (2 times). Everything else was a run play. I don’t think we can truly gauge our pass rush ability until probably the OU game. That said, Simmons and Vasek do look far more dynamic in the pass rush than Moore in a limited sample size.
  22. Exited to see folks. Bringing some normies as well
