  1. This is a really good idea, and long overdue. There really is no traffic on Congress north of Sixth. Congress dead-ends into the Capitol at 11th, so the only traffic on Congress is whatever is coming from north/south of 7th to go over to I-35 on 11th. And that's really not much. With no vehicle traffic and with very little in the way of office or residential north of 7th, there's little to keep retail/restaurants in business. The only things you have are a couple small restaurants and a coffee shop. It's really the only area in downtown that you have a bunch of empty storefronts. Pedestrianizing roads is great for street-level retail. It is an absolute magnet for pedestrians. And pedestrians are more likely to go into street-level retail than car drivers. After seeing something they might want to visit, a car driver has to find a parking space, get out of the car, and walk over to the business. A pedestrian just has to walk in. For an example, just take a look around Madison Square Park after Broadway was pedestrianized. Or take a look at Akard & Jackson streets in Dallas. Or fuck--look at Speedway on campus and how much nicer that is than when most of us were students. If you pedestrianize Congress north of Sixth, you'd turn a lot of those empty storefronts into some of the most desirable retail in the state.
  2. An important point for all of us who care about our preferred candidate(s)--please vote on the first day of early voting. Every night, the campaigns get a list of people who early voted from each county's office. When they see that you voted, they can cross you off their GOTV list. So that is one less call and one less door-knock the campaign's GOTV people need to do. And that frees them to focus on other people who actually might not vote. If you're on this thread, then you're fucking voting. Even a single minute the party or the candidate spends on GOTV on you is a fucking waste. So don't make them waste that time/resources. Go vote the first day of early voting!
  3. Seriously—why is Ted yelling at me?
  4. I guess to precisely that point, . . . I was looking at the schedule of weekday games this week, because those are often a lot of fun and I like having them in the background while I do other shit around the house after work. And so I see Okie State at BYU on Friday. And it occurs to me . . . I don't have the first fucking clue what Okie State's record is. Are they any good? Are they terrible? Is Coach Whatshisface on the hotseat? I have no clue. Do any of you? And what about Tech. Or Baylor. Or TCU. Ok--I know TCU got its shit pushed in by SMU, and that was awesome. But apart from that? Absolutely no fucking clue. God, I love this post-Big12 reality in which not only do I not have to care about those programs; I'm blissfully unaware that they even exist.
  5. Can't say that I do.
  6. Hey, guys—we’re bowl-eligible!
  7. It’s a goddamned Stetson open road. And there ain’t no motherfucking feather.
  8. Ok—back on the road. Hopefully no more stops.
  9. Gerik’s has been consumed. But goddamned if I couldn’t make it twenty more miles up the road before my old man bowels got the best of me. So now I’m sitting here in the shitter at Buccee’s. Arrival time now slightly delayed.
  10. Goddamn, that’s funny. I hadn’t noticed that. It’s muted and we’re bullshitting.
  11. Let’s go, bitches—it’s motherfucking Gameday!
  12. Let’s go, bitches—it’s motherfucking Gameday!
  13. To that point, Harris appears to be polling better than Biden did among white people (and particularly white people over the age of 45. If you tell me that Harris is picking up even 2 points among white people over 45, then I don't care if she drops 20 points among Black men.
  14. Stay outside the Fair if you're looking for scalp tickets (and, as warned above, everything is electronic). The game ticket is also your ticket to the Fair, so sellers should be outside. If you can't score a ticket, go over to Craft & Growler on Peavy just across the street from the Fairgrounds.
  15. He's 15. I would say he'd love it, but the reality is that he'll probably be watching TicToc the entire way.
  16. Off topic, but I wanted to make sure you erudite motherfuckers saw this wonderful opportunity to spend six hours in a car Saturday with me and Brisket. He'll be on the ledge. I'll be pumping sunshine. It'll be great.
  17. Cross-posting from the Best Buy board, but Son of GOLL, @Brisketexan, and I are making a thunder run up to Dallas Saturday morning with a Saturday late afternoon, and we have a spare seat. It's free to the buyer of kolaches and Slim Jims. First row west side upper deck at about the goal line. Let us know your playlist and opinion on whether mustard or ketchup goes on a corny dog. ETA: So @Macanudowas the first to jump in. So here we go tomorrow morning. In preparation, I'm going to Maudie's tonight for a fucking Strait Plate with double refrieds. Brisket's truck is going to smell like a Tijuana sewer by the time we reach Georgetown. @immamac--in anticipation of updates tomorrow, perhaps this thread should be moved to the general football board?
  18. He's made the calculation that he'd prefer to run against Harris in 2028 than try to run as a Republican after a second Trump term. He's not wrong. And he won't be the last one to make that calculation. I guarantee you we'll see other high Republican officeholders who might have presidential aspirations subtly undermine Trump over the next 29 days.
  19. You know--I know this wasn't directed at me. But as a condescending cunt myself, I find that I never do tire of it. I wonder if @closetojumping has had the same experience.
  20. And as I was telling @Brisketexan on Friday, I was kind of cheering a little bit for aggy for exactly this reason. The aggycoaster isn't very much fun if it doesn't go up. That and the fact that I just irrationally resent Missouri being in the SEC (or even having a football program, really). It's just a nothing program that plays in a nothing stadium. It has no redeeming value whatsoever. It only got into the SEC because the conference decided it needed an even number. Missouri ought to be playing Kansas every year. That's their rival. And the Big12 is the level at which they belong. Fuck Missouri.
  21. The thing that stood out to me about Missouri (apart from everything you observe about their wretched defense) is just how poor the offensive play design was. There were multiple plays in which they had two receivers within three yards of one another. And when that happened, aggy of course had three DBs in the area (and even then incompletions were a matter of luck). There's no reason for that type of play design. It's just awful. And it damned sure isn't akin to anything aggy would see from us. Can we just remember for one minute that we were playing MissSt with our fucking back-up quarterback. I get that our back-up quarterback is named "Manning." But he's still the back-up behind a starter who is significantly better. And even behind our QB2, we still beat MissSt by three touchdowns.
  22. And y’all thought this was going to be a boring day of college football.
  23. I’m starting to get real concerned about our trip to Nashville.
