  1. Pre-annexation, there was a municipal utility district that was the retail water utility. I believe it got its wholesale water from the City of Austin. When Lost Creek was annexed in 2015, the MUD was dissolved, and the retail water utility became the City of Austin. And the City of Austin is going to continue being the retail water utility post-disannexation. The problem is the size of the surface water tanks. Every neighborhood has to have surface water-storage capacity to keep pressure in the water lines. For Lost Creek, that surface storage is the tanks that are at the highest point in the neighborhood at Lost Creek Blvd and Quaker Ridge. Those storage tanks are plenty to meet demand in Lost Creek and keep pressure in the water lines. And generally speaking, they're enough to meet fire demand. But if there's a wildfire down in the Barton Creek Greenbelt that sweeps up into the neighborhood, Lost Creek is turbofucked. And that has been pointed out to the City for decades--first when it was the wholesaler and over the past decade when it was the retail provider and provider of emergency services. The City has shrugged its shoulders. The whole history is just kind of indicative of the benign neglect with which the City has treated Lost Creek, and why I scoff at jimmyjazz when he cites the wildfire risk as a reason to oppose disannexation.
  2. And the Musers had the absurd stat this morning that the head coaches of the Dallas teams in sports that have seen-game playoff series are now a collective 16-0 in Games 7. Jason Kidd is 2-0. Bruce Bochy is 6-0. Pete DeBoer is 8-0. That's incredible. I can't imagine any other city having anything similar in the history of ever.
  3. On what is your feeling based? Because I asked around for anybody to make the case against disannexation. I asked a lot. And literally nobody I talked to could even articulate any argument. As part of the City of Austin, Lost Creek has been on its own for wildfires for a long time. The neighborhood has been part of the City of Austin since 2015. And throughout that time, the area has water-storage capacity for 1.5 house fires. That's right--if there are two house fires in the area at the same time, there isn't enough capacity in those storage tanks at the corner of Lost Creek and Quaker Ridge to effectively fight both fires. That fact has been known to the City of Austin and AFD throughout the time Lost Creek has been in the City. And the wildfire danger has also been known to the City. And despite that, and even with bond issue after bond issue, do you knwo what the City has done to address that issue? Jack. Shit. Yeah, my brother--Lost Creek is quite literally on the front line of the Austin metro for wildfires. And being inside the City's corporate limits has done absolutely nothing to provide any protection.
  4. Goddamnit, these late starts suck.
  5. I’m just glad Matt Stone can go back and resume his convalescence and regain his health.
  6. Coach—you make a better door than you do a window.
  7. Paige Ellis. And yeah—she’s completely useless.
  8. Looks like the Lost Creek disannexation proposition is going to pass by just a smidge.
  9. I think Hill is the better goalie. And he has a proven track record of being able to lead a team to a Cup. Thompson has a good bit. A lefty gives shooters an entirely different look. But it's pretty apparent that the Stars figured out that he has a big hole up near his left ear. And once the Stars figured that out in Game 4, he looked a lot less effective.
  10. That storm is moving slowly right down the river. It’s really just perfectly spotted.
  11. Maybe the thinking is that it’ll only get worse?
  12. Lot of rumbling on the soc that the PM is going to call a General Election on Monday. If that happens, the election would be June 6.
  13. So are we having a campus-wide strike tomorrow?
  14. I mean, when you've lost Mark Davis, . . . .
  15. Well, between his response to Covid and his handling of the electric grid, he's definitely killed far more Texans than Santa Anna ever did.
  16. Yep. Frankly, if the students don't call a general strike after this, then I've got no use for 'em.
  17. Nah, man--that's not how this works. You don't email the Riot Act. You have to read the Riot Act to the rioting mob. Jesus--it's like these fuckers have never deployed the redcoats to carry out a massacre of citizens petitioning their government for redress or something.
  18. What the fuck are you even talking about? Why am I asking? You don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. Your entire point--insofar as there is a point at all--is based on speculation and fantasies about "what is likely going on at Berkeley right now." I mean, fuck man--how about focusing on what is demonstrably going on right now on our campus instead of what you imagine to be happening thousands of miles away. And right now on our campus, our sons and daughters are being oppressed by the Governor's thugs so that he can look more MAGA than Ron Desantis.
  19. [Not] good to see Jason Robertson in post-season form.
  20. I’d elect her. I’d elect her so so fucking hard. Wait—what’re we talking about?
  21. Does it annoy me that Leclerc gets credited with the win? Yeah. Will I get over it? Yeah.
  22. Oh, fuck--get him how now, Mike. He looks all fucked up.
