  1. I think that decision is probably going to come down to Arnold, not the coaches. Pure speculation, but he maybe in the process of packing his sh!t up to hit the portal. If that is the case, he is going to do everything in his power to stay on the sidelines the rest of the season and preserve his redshirt.
  2. I doubt Sark thinks like that. He is going to want to start fast and make the freshmen QB play from behind and let Simmons introduce himself as a fellow freshman. I am sure he wasn’t happen vs MSU seeing them run 6-7 minutes off on their opening possession
  3. People are mentioning Cook, because he has been passed by Moore and Wingo. Both of those guys have demonstrated a connection with Arch. Cook is not a lock to be a starter next year, especially if Sark continues to pull a 1st round WR talent out of the portal. That doesn’t even consider the chance that Golden comes back to Texas. It’s going to be a very competitive room, so anything can happen.
  4. Odds are he stays, but in this world of college football I would not make a bet either way. Wasnt that long ago people were sweating Worthy hitting the portal. I feel good about Wingo and Moore. They look to be the top 2 options for 2025. After that who knows if Sark grabs a WR that changes the outlook for some guys or what NIL money gets thrown around
  5. Not sure Sark would go there. The story last year was he was pretty lazy and didnt look good in practice (effort wise). Eventually the mullet swallowed his pride and started him. Ollie rewarded him with a great season and a DUI.
  6. I took CTJ's comment as Terry will be the recruit, that was recruited at 1 spot and ends up succeeding at another. He has been recruited at RB by several schools. I could see him excelling in a Deebo Samuels type role. Sark has been known to follow the Shanahan tree pretty closely.
  7. It's kind of relative. Williams ran a 10.68 as a sophomore, that is still flying. Smith is basically a Greek God. He has made some crazy catches. He will absolutely destroy the combine. To put it in context I think Worthy was around a 10.5 as a soph. Wingo, Smith, and Williams are just freaks. The interesting thought is where would these guys go in this year's draft, if they were eligible.
  8. I looked at 100m times on the 3 big Freshmen WRs. Williams is the slowest of the group (still fast), but he is the quickest (C.O.D) Smith OSU- 10.26 100m Wingo- 10.55 Williams- 10.68 Smith and Wingo are both ~6'3" and 210 vs 6' and 175 for Williams.
  9. He did that a few times. I was wondering if they were teaching him to wrong shoulder the puller (it looked intentional). He also knifed in a couple plays. I am guessing he went 1 for 3 on those. Got 1 TFL and gave up couple decent runs.
  10. He we will figure it out. He will learn to hit the bull rush, when he sees the OT on skates rushing back to mitigate his speed. His bull rush will be about leverage, not pure strength. I just havent seen him use his hands much or use a counter. Been straight sprint to QB or some kind of juke and go. You are dead right on getting out of his pass rush lane (run game is applicable also). That was the double-edged sword I was talking about. You are going to have to live with some of that as a coach, because he can just make plays that other guys can not. He is on pace for double digit sacks. Texas has not had someone with 10 sacks going back to 2016 (cfbstats.com - 2017 Texas Longhorns Sacks, site doesnt go back further). He has 6 TFLs (1.2 per game). Only Ossai in 2020 (1.78 per) and Omenihu (1.29 per) have been better since 2016. Simmons is a freshman and not logging the same snaps as those guys (yet). You dont want to turn him into a robot and lose that play making ability. You have to try to rein him in a bit, but not too much. The biggest thing for him will be gaining the experience that helps him figure out when to break the rules.
  11. He is a bit over-aggressive vs the run, but it is a double-edged sword. Sometimes he gets up field and gets the TFL (MSU game). Sometimes it gets him in trouble (MSU). He is so talented, that he could break the rules in HS and still win consistently. He is going to have to learn, when to break the rules in college. He is one of those talents, you dont want to over-coach. His pass rush is scary, because I dont think he has been developed his pass rushing repertoire. Probably missed something but seems to be just a pure speed rush at this pt. Going to be fun when he develops some counters.
  12. The worst was the spot. The scramble was definitely tight. Hard to tell if he hit the pylon before his knee hit, so I understood not over-turning the ruling on the field. That said the ball was definitely inside of 6 inches of the end zone. Marking it at the 1.5 was just ridiculous
  13. I’ll just add. There is big gap between Ewers and Arch on the extremes. Arch is a great deep ball passer. He does seem to struggle at times with the short throws. Vast majority of the time Ewers is putting that throw on the upfield shoulder giving the receiver a great YAC opportunity. Arch has thrown that a bit behind at times, slowing the play up
  14. The fumble and the TD drop let MSU continue their keep away strategy. That is 10-14 pts that would have forced MSU to abandon their strategy. You can add penalties to the overall fuckery that kept MSU in the game. The penalties have to get fixed, as they seem to consistently show up this season
  15. I think we are just going to have to live with Sark being over-aggressive at times. It’s just who he is as a coach. We don’t bitch when it works. He is very confident in his offense and his abilities to call the right play. It tends to work out for him over time
  16. MSU did hurt Texas with power. Pulling and getting a numbers advantage. That said the biggest issue was tackling. Lot of times the RB was met near the LOS, broke a couple tackles, and a 2-3 yard gain turned into 5-7 yards. Clean up tackling and that number is probably 50 carries for like 80 yards
  17. He got out of his gap trying to get around the RB and that opened up a huge hole
  18. Whole conversation is asinine. Has anyone in the RB room looked like a star this year? Gibson shows potential, but he has work to do. Even Sark came out talking about his vision and not always looking for contact. Blue has the speed the NFL covets, but we haven’t seen that on display this year. Wisner is very good overall football player, but 3.8 ypc isn’t going to lather anyone up. It’s not like the position has a Simmons or Wingo in the room, where young guys say they may need to move on to start.
  19. I understand the idea that experience is good for the younger players, but its about health. Its not like we are sitting here debating whether or not Banks should start at left tackle, because Texas can win with Goosby and he would be more prepared if he started vs Miss State. Do we do that at safety, WR, LB, etc? If Quinn is healthy play him. You can start thinking about getting experience for guys, when it is 28-0 at half. If he is not healthy, sit his ass.
  20. The whole discussion is a bit silly. If Ewers is healthy, he is going to play. If he isn't, he will sit. Without having the doctor's report, it is nothing but speculation.
  21. Gibson hasnt looked 100% lately either. Think he is dealing with an ankle.
  22. Memphis, BSU, and Liberty are higher to make it. UNLV are one of 10 teams at +100k after BSU and Liberty to win it. Texas is +500 (#3) to win (OSU #1 +340, Georgia #2 +360, Bama #4 +800). Based on Georgia's schedule that seems high
  23. I am not sure you know what the word favorite means Odds to make the playoffs Boise State +300 Liberty +400 Memphis +700 Odds to win Boise State +25000 Liberty +50000 Coastal Carolina +100000 Tulane +100000 App State +100000 UTSA +100000 Memphis +100000 Fresno State +100000 UNLV +100000 Miami (Ohio) +100000 Toledo +100000 Texas State +100000
