  1. It is a trend in the NFL. 2020- 24.8 pts 2021- 23.0 2022- 21.9 2023- 21.8 Lot of people taking away the big play and forcing offense to grind out long drives and finish in the redzone.

    Matt Patricia

He ran NFL coverages. He played coverage. He avoided the NFL DC mistake of going complex blitzes. I think the biggest thing is he also has a really smart player in Caleb Downs that communicates really well, so he can get funky on the back end. Sometimes you have to just tip your hat to the opposition.
  3. If it was not for the poor throwing mechanics, I would completely blow this off. Overall, this was a really tough environment. OSU played really good coverage. Lots of tight windows, so young QB could not be a tick slow. Arch didnt take advantage, when OSU let someone open. OSU forced Arch to play at high level to beat them, he played poorly.
  4. I think it is easy to slice things up and say you had a .25 of second to hit a tight window, but it is more about process. I am not going to hammer a QB for not throwing a ball into double coverage, because he threw a ball into single coverage. Livingstone makes the contested catch or there is a flag in the endzone, nobody would have said a word. You can go to the quick check down with the crosser opening up, if you want to hammer Arch on his reads.
  5. Perhaps Arch squeezes that into a tight window, but Wingo might be missing his head. Talking about a really tight window. There is nothing wrong with the read. You have 2 over 1 on Wingo and 1 on 1 with Livingstone. This is internet breakdown at its finest.
  6. Honestly, there was not a lot open. Had a couple misreads (too fast to the check was rough) and flat out misses. Lot of tight windows here. I originally said OSU locked down the receivers and when they didnt Arch missed. I think that is a good description of this. Even the big completions were tight windows. It was a tough environment and Arch played like shit
  7. Wingo is not open there is a safety over him. You are seeing the safety react to the ball that is already out and on the way to Livingstone
  8. His mechanics were off from his first step off the bus. Why I think this was more about 6 months of hearing how awesome he would be and the pressure that came with it. OSU did a lot on defense, and it definitely contributed to the issues, but I think this was mostly in Arch's head. It wasnt like he took a few sacks and the mechanics fell apart. This is good game to gather himself and look like the QB he did last year (mechanically speaking). If he does not regroup, well shit
  9. Just to make a counter point on this ALL THE MANNINGS played there. All had good NFL careers. Talent he played was not always great, neither was the talent he played with. His brother was the center at under 200 pounds. The blow out was to U Lab, which historically puts out a lot of talent.
  10. Arch got blown out by University Lab his last game. I dont follow LA HS football, but historically that is very good HS program and a complete talent mismatch
  11. Arch was very good on the deep ball. That is clearly his strength. Even in what I pray is the worst game of his life, his deep ball was as advertised.
  12. Colt was 19-32 for 154 yards, 1 TD, and 1 int. Similarly shitty stats.
  13. I think Babers said Arch was actually best in straight drop back. Thinking about it, it makes some sense. His mechanics were off all game. Straight drop back you dont have too much to worry about with your footwork, opposed to play action and throwing on the run.
  14. I believe he was like 81-83% on short passes according to Scipio last year.
  15. It silly. Only thing you can say OSU offense was very conservative also and went to even more conservative in the 4Q. Perhaps the secondary did not get the test we expected. Not too worried about that, but if you want to try to figure out if the defense is top 5 or top 10 based on that have fun with it.
  16. I think if the mechanics are off at home vs a cupcake is telling. Lets just say Saturday wont tell us if Arch is fine for the rest of the year, but it could at least hold off the meltdown.
  17. Lefau play was his hands to the face of the OL, who in turn held Lefau in the endzone. I think that was just a tough play and I am not sure he gets held if his hand doesnt get up into the OL's facemask.
  18. I dont think he is hurt. He just looked rushed. His mechanics were absolutely brutal, which was shocking to watch. He did not show anything like that in the film last year. You have to monitor this, but I am going to guess we see a completely different looking QB the next game. If his mechanics look like this on Saturday, then i will be happy to join you with a tinfoil hat on.
  19. This is incorrect. It was a very vanilla gameplan. Not much in the way of targets to motion, which Sark usually relies on to scheme open looks. You are probably the 1st person I have seen say it was a good gameplan. You have Babers, The Film Guy, and Scipio all come out and say Sark had a bad day. It is possible that the QB looked like ass and the game plan was weak.
  20. Not to go @satyanash, but one thought watching Arch's mechanics completely breakdown was WTF is Texas teaching these QBs? Why are the starters mechanics so bad? I am going to hope this was just a "arch lost his mind for this game", but it is something I will be monitoring. Hopefully, this is just an anomaly for Arch.
  21. We agree on this. Far from the 1st time a starter has shit himself for Texas. My larger point is I think Sark may need to do some self-scouting on his game plans and not simply write this off as the QB had a bad day.
  22. The one issue I am concerned about is this is blown off as simply "1st time starter shit himself". The 4 games vs Georgia and OSU have been pretty ugly (every game with completion percentage below 60%, 29% on 3rd down, and 33% on 4th. 3 TDs in 9 redzone trips). I think this was the worst game plan of the 4. OSU was borrowing a lot from the Georgia game plan. I was surprised after an entire offseason how little Sark adjusted his offense. These are elite defense and not everyone can replicate their game plans, but some self-scouting is called for here.
  23. I think he just cracked under pressure, but it troubling on a few accounts. You hope this is just an anomaly and not a deeper issue with Arch. Now it is 4 games vs elite defenses and the last 12 months and a Texas QB has not cracked 60% completion. Some self-scouting needs to be done.
  24. I mentioned that, the other 2 worked. Why I said 2 out of 3 were effective
  25. He either rushed through the read to check down or threw late. He was good in straight drop back. Maybe need more of that
