  1. Take a look at the routes. When was the last time you saw Sark run four verts? How many less screens is Sark calling? Sark did it in Arch’s first game also. Sark is hunting the big play also. He has a QB that throws a great deep ball. It’s kind of Sark
  2. College is weird. They include sack yards. Probably the easiest thing to do is just use the RB carries. Just think about the delta between Quinn and Arch on rushing yards.
  3. that is the most depressing sentence in this thread.
  4. Reminds me. Umeozulu the Younger looks much better than expected.
  5. hard to know without the protection call or even seeing alignment pre-snap, but guessing the End dropped to coverage, DT slanted outside, and the NG slanted to offense's right. Huston gets whipped, so poor grade. Campbell sees the guy over him slant away, he should be expecting someone to replace and is slow to recognize, so shitty grade. Complete guess though.
  6. this is why the offense is erratic. Pretty much every position group is dealing with inconsistencies. Hard to pinpoint who will miss an assignment on a given play, but it is a good bet someone will
  7. Not speaking for anyone else, but Campbell might be the most disappointing guy on the OL. Really hoping to see him put it together this year and realize his potential. Hoping he would be a guy to rely on and raise the OL play. Baker and Stroh are so young. They will likely show great improvement over the course of a year, albeit starting from a very low point. Based on talent level, I would rather bet on Baker. Campbell has enough snaps and experience that I am starting to think this is who he is. It is only 2 starts, so probably a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.
  8. Stroh 89 snaps Neto: 22 snaps Kibble- 10 snaps (72.6 grade, 73.7 pass/72.1 run) Neto is getting 11 snaps a game, so that is not a lot of snaps. He may look bad with a 40+ a game. Kibble only has 10. It is not up to me, but I would be giving more snaps to Neto and Kibble the next 2 games. I do not know who the best option is currently. All I know is Stroh has struggled mightily and having an open competition here vs the next 2 tomato cans seems reasonable. At worst you are setting a culture of accountability
  9. I get that, but if Neto keeps putting up low 60s grades you will be bitching about him in 2 weeks. The argument is not if Neto is a better option than Stroh, it is who is best option on the roster. Honestly, I do not who that is currently. Just like to see more snaps over the next 2 games.
  10. 2 things. 1. It is a small sample size 2. Stroh has gotten horrific grades from PFF. Neto has not gotten good grades. Low 60s grades are not winning football. If we are getting below starter level play, might as well give it to the youth. Perhaps a better way to say it is neither Neto nor Stroh have shown they deserve to start. I am throwing out the idea that Nibble, who looked good vs SJSU (small sample size, graded in the 70s) should be allowed to compete.
  11. I would like to see Kibble given an opportunity to compete for a job the next 2 games. I have no issue with Neto, but he is a 5th year guy. It is not a lot of snaps but the results have been middling at best. Unless Neto is significantly better, I would rather see the young guy with the job. Not sure the suspension is over, but Baker and Brooks should have a competition at some pt over the next 2 games
  12. You saw the upside and downside vs OSU. The long pass to Endries (amazing throw) and to Livingstone in tight windows were beautiful. The Wingo connection is just pure ugliness; not sure I can even attempt to figure out the issue there. Things are going to look a lot different this year. OL looks to be a work in progress, that is going to make the offense inefficient. Screen game is much smaller portion of the offense. The passing game is more vertical. Just after 2 games this appears to be a boom and bust offense that will be reliant on explosive plays to score. Sark is going to have to identify something to bring up the floor that the offesne can execute efficiently. I did see him experimenting with some straight drop back quick game vs SJSU. That may be the answer to raise the floor.
  13. It was not good in either game. My biggest complaint is Flood has not produced a physical OL in his time here. It is not S&C, because the DL is extremely physical. I think that is an issue. I am sure there are better posters to talk about the OL technique, but I question Flood's ability to teach inside zone.
  14. going off memory I believe the range was like 61-65. Lot better than Stroh, but still not good. that is SJSU OL – Trevor Goosby, 82.7. Cole Huston, 47.4, Connor Robertson, 77.0, Nate Kibble, 72.6, Jaydon Chatman, 65.9, DJ Campbell, 64.3, Neto Umeozulu, 61.7, Brandon Baker, 59.1, Connor Stroh, 47.6
  15. According to PFF the guy has 8 big time throws in 2 games, not sure what you are watching to say a few good throws. What people are not talking about is the movement in the pocket that has saved multiple sacks. Given the OL play through 2 games. Arch has had a pressure rate of 41% and 38% in the first 2 games, his legs are going to be invaluable. We have yet to see a quality defense that goes after Arch and OL (OSU generally played coverage rushing 3-4). Arch has been a bit erratic, mostly with Wingo, but people seem to be focusing on the tree and missing the forest. PS- the irony of the bad ball to Livingstone vs SJSU is he probably doesnt score if the ball hits him in stride. The safety had to put the brakes on to adjust to the ball and fell. I doubt it was intended, but I cannot say it wasnt. That gives me the impression that you are looking for something to criticize.
  16. Arch is just a different QB. He is much more of a playmaker. He isnt a system guy throwing darts in the short game. I think this is going to be an interesting marriage with Sark. Sark likes system guys. I think Sark is going to have to loosen the leash over time and let Arch be Arch.
  17. crazy thing is how much PFF likes Arch.. 85.3 grade vs SJSU and 76 grade vs OSU (Quinn finished at 72.5 last year) overall passing grade is 80.4 with 8 big time throws in 2 games. I think one thing people are under-estimating is his movement in the pocket. He has saved Texas from more than a few sacks (one dumb ass int vs SJSU) Losing some on the missed crossers but also gaining on pocket awareness and playmaking. I think PFF puts a big emphasis on the play making aspect of QB play. I do think if Quinn was starting the offense would be different and revert back to the horizontal, screen heavy attack. So I dont think your comment is completely crazy, though many will disagree.
  18. agree. They were conservative with their gameplan, but they did not go into a shell on offense until the 4Q.
  19. Arch went 19-30 vs SJSU. PFF gave Texas 4 drops in the game (I remember 2), so I was not nearly as terrible as people are making it out to be.. The Wingo thing is still annoying, but this is not brutal. Keep in mind Texas is going downfield a lot more this year. Part of that is scheme and part is Manning, who has an excellent 50% comp rate on deep balls so far.
  20. Kibble is surprising to me. We heard a lot of good things about him last year and saw him in the playoffs. but has only gotten 10 snaps (73.7 pass/72.1 run grade albeit a very small sample size vs SJSU) Neto has gotten 22 snaps. 65.5 grade vs OSU and 61.7 grade vs SJSU (not Stroh bad, but not particularly encouraging)
  21. completely agree on small DLs (Wyoming comes to mind). The one disconcerting aspect of the Flood OLs is the lack of physicality. For the most part the OL has been guys that screen the DL from the RB and get 0 displacement. It is still early though, so improvement can happen.
  22. I think there is a better chance Miami cleans house after the season, and they draft a QB in the first 5 picks.
  23. It is still a bit early in the year to get too far down on them, but the grades have been very ugly. last year we had 3 players above 70 (Banks, Conner, and Majors) Campbell (68.3) and Williams (67.4) were borderline I will be surprised if Flood does not tinker with the OL this week. At least give a couple players more PT or move some people around.
  24. Those 2 have been consistently graded poorly in both games. Goosby has been consistently graded high. Cole Hutson had a nightmare game vs SHSU. Stroh: 47.6 PFF grade vs SJSU and 44.9 vs OSU baker: 59.1 vs SJSU, 41.0 vs OSU Campbell: 64.3 SJSU,60.7 OSU, (not great either) Cole Hutson: 47.4 SJSU, 63.2 OSU Goosby 82.7 San Jose, 73.9 OSU anything below a 60 is bad. above a 70 is a solid grade and 80s is very good. Goosby the only OL that has consistently gotten solid grades
  25. Arch is hitting an excellent 50% on his deep balls. Hard to find issues with that. The issue is finding something that is efficient and easily replicated. Texas is much more vertical in the passing this year, which will tend to be more boom or bust The OL has some real holes currently. Stroh: 47.6 PFF grade vs SJSU and 44.9 vs OSU baker: 59.1 vs SJSU, 41.0 vs OSU That is going to make doing anything consistently an issue
