  1. I think it is a bit of a mixed bag. Some of it was Penix just being on fire and some of it was the Texas defense. You had some ineffective blitz packages. You had 2 conversions that were simply converted due to alignment/scheme (TE catch on like 3rd an 2, where he basically took 2 steps and turned around with nobody accounting for him and Taaffe being asked to cover an out from a NFL WR from depth)
  2. BS is probably strong, but how about highly subjective
  3. MIchigan is going to be a very interesting game to watch.. Probably the best offense vs the best defense. I think Michigan has some of the best coverage and blitz packages in the country. They obviously stole the defense from the Ravens. They do some nice things in masking coverages. I would love PK to do a deep dive on that defense. It fits very well with his philosophy.
  4. I am startign to think the pressure stat is BS. I know Texas did get some pressure, but there is no way I believe the 20 pressure number. I thought I watched the game pretty closely and I do not remember Texas pressuring Penix on half his attempts.
  5. The defense was OK.. They gave up 37 pts on 10 possessions. (i am not counting the last Washington drive, that was in grind the clock mode) Inconsistent offense and the fumbles were far bigger issues, than the last 2 drives. Had the offense been more consistent, Texas wouldnt have been in miracle mode. Hard to get too upset that Texas didnt go 69 yards in 41 seconds and score a TD. I wish it happened, but it was never likely Way too many offensive penalties. This is why the game was so frustrating. I dont think the offense or the defense had a good game. Nothing worse than finishing your season without throwing your best punch.
  6. I dont completely disagree with this. I thought Arch looked decisive in his limited time in the offense and had nice pocket presence. It wasnt enough to make any legitimate statements on his readiness. Lot of QBs can look cool in the pocket with a 40 pts lead. It certainly left me wanting to see more. I still think Quinn is far likelier to be the best option for Texas next year, but I can not say there is not small percentage possibility that Arch would be better.
  7. That is not what I said. I said the normal red zone offense was damn good. 4/4 in the red zone scoring TDs.. The situation exposed the drop back red zone offense. Red zone is also far down the list of issues that lost Texas the game.
  8. I have to admit it. When I first saw it, there was a moment I thought Wingo was the LB (he is jacked) and Owens was the punter.
  9. We will disagree. Knowing you have a slim shot at an onside kick isnt a great situation and reason to risk taking the clock down to 30 seconds. You are over-looking the importance of the defense having to respect the run (again from the 7 and from 12). Yes, you can run a quick pitch and pray he scores or gets out of bounds. My point was people love to hold on to simple memes., like "Texas struggles in the red zone". You can not simply say it was the red zone that hurt Texas in this game. Texas was 4-4 scoring TDs in the red zone coming into the final 2 drives. Hard to say that the red zone offense was poor in this game. There were far bigger issues in this game than the redzone performance. If we are being honest with ourselves, it was a minor miracle that Texas even got that last opportunity to win the game. That was due to luck (Washington injury) and poor clock management from Deboer
  10. Blue's fumble was recovered on Washignton's 24 yard line and the play started at the Texas 43 yard line, so it is only 6 trips.. You can try to run the ball, but it has to be successful or you lose (that is on both drives). It is a big risk. My point was normal red zone offense is off the table in those last 2 drives. This is was not normal Texas red zone issues. This does highlight the drop back red zone issues Texas has had all year. Once the run game is not present in the defense's mind (defense is not going to fire out fast at run action from the 7 or 12 in those situations), the RPO and play action game is much less effective. That throws out most the playbook.
  11. Texas scored 4 TDs on 6 redzone drives. Normal redzone offense was actually quite good. The last 2 redzone trips were not normal situations. The run game was off the table.
  12. Yes. It seemed the play was essentially set up to be a 1 on 1 jump ball. Just odd to see someone sitting behind the LOS 20 yards away, when you need a TD
  13. I saw him and laughed. It’s 4th and goal and they motion him to stand on the 20 yard line. Not sure what the point of that was
  14. I dont think that is possible. Looks like Nansen is the top choice to come in as the LB coach (his daughter attends Texas). He is currently the DC at Arizona, so he would have to be given the Co-DC title in order to bring him in. Texas will just have to do it the Randy Moss way, straight cash homie.
  15. https://footballscoop.com/news/the-highest-paid-defensive-line-coaches-in-college-football-2023-edition for the lazy: 1. Larry Johnson -- $1.167 million 2. Elijah Robinson, Texas A&M -- $1.1 million 3. Bo Davis, Texas -- $1 million 3. Tray Scott, Georgia -- $1 million 3. Sean Spencer, Florida -- $1 million 6. Brian Williams, Maryland^ -- $850,000 7. Nick Eason, Clemson -- $800,000 8. Rodney Garner, Tennessee+ -- $775,000 9. Freddie Roach, Alabama -- $750,000 10. Mark Hagen, Purdue -- $700,000 That is from May of 2023, but I cant imagine it has changed dramatically.
  16. The one thing that I think Quinn really needs to work on it is using his arm. You can see the arm strength, when they run a deep stop or the deep out to the wide side. Outside of that, I rarely see Quinn unleash a frozen rope. He has an elite arm, I am not sure why he does not use all the arrows in his quiver
  17. He got a sack lining up at Dt also,, They avoided Banks.. good game plan
  18. Washignton got pressure, mostly Trice. Texas did not have an answer for him. Jones may have PTSD from that game. He single handily had 8 pressures, 2 sacks, 3 TFLs. and a forced fumble
  19. That is the screen shot of the defensive alignment on the first TD. I am not sure what you are seeing, but the corners are not playing off
  20. Just not true first TD, you can see the CB on the LOS.
  21. https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/top-pff-grades-from-no-3-texas-37-31-loss-over-no-2-washington/ Quinn the highest graded Longhorn
  22. Hill is going to be fine. Playing off-ball LB takes some time to get going. The difference in the bowl game might of been Trice. That guy got 2 Sacks, 8 pressures, 1 caused fumble, and 3 TFLs. He is a 1st round guy.. Texas has nobody to compare to that. We are talking about a true freshmen getting pressure. The lack of a quality pass rusher has been one of the biggest glaring weaknesses of this team, since PK got to Austin. Hopefully, Trey Moore can fill that need next year and some of the younger guys start to grow up.
  23. DeBeor's management of the final minute was a disaster. Its the only reason Texas had a chance to win. He threw on 3rd down, before taking to FG to go up 2 scores. He ran the ball, instead of taking the knee
  24. I was watching the Michigan game and something really stuck out to me. Bama lined the Rb out wide and the LB followed him. They motioned him back to the backfields. The Lb followed him back into the box. They snap it. RB runs his route to the flat. The Edge drops to the flat and Milroe skies the pass. He was totally confused. He assumed it was man and it was going to be a race between the RB and LB to the edge, based on the LB following the RB around the formation. You rarely see that in college football. NFL, yes. Michigan has had a DC from the NFL the last few years. They do some high level pass defense, mostly because they were built to beat OSU.
  25. If there is a question I would ask PK, it would be why wasnt Sweat and Murphy in the game on 4th and 1? Washington tried to get Texas to jump on 4th and 1. Called timeout. I am pretty sure DaBeor or someone noticed that Trill Carter and Broughton were at DT. He sent the offense back out and ran it for 2 yards.
