  1. This makes me happy. This is a common mistake for NFL guys. Wink Martindale learned it the hard way. Michigan fans were very down on him early and in particular his 3rd down defense. He would dial up NFL blitzes and some receiver would get lost in the secondary. These guys love to exotic and forget they have a talent advantage in 80-90% of their games. I hope Patricia falls into this trap
  2. Always hard to use average recoveries with individuals. There will always be good and bad exceptions. All we know is he has moved up the depth chart and according to recent reports getting carries ahead of Gibson. I had written him off as an early contributor, but this seems be a positive data point that indicates his recovery is coming along much faster than most expected.
  3. Sounds like Clark has passed Gibson based on practice intel from OTF, but still a long way to go until camp ends.
  4. Unlike McJaggerson comments, I really hope you are right on this one.
  5. Hill and Simmons are 1st round talents. You cannot replace their production, but I feel like there is quality depth behind them. I cannot put Goosby ahead of those guys, but I have the suspicion the drop from Goosby to the next LT might be as large as any position outside of QB.
  6. Goosby? I think he is more of a typical LT. Great feet and mobility, but not a guy you run a ton power behind. Young player with no spring game, so who the fvck really knows. You can say that about most the OL. I think RB might be a true committee this year. Wisner will play. Baxter will play. He was the best blocking RB as a true freshman with a new OL and young Qb that has real value. I assume someone out of Clark, Simon, and Gibson will likely emerge as a viable 3rd. That is my guess.
  7. interesting post, not that there is anything wrong with that
  8. Goosby's health was easily top 5 on the roster, prior to this. It is even more important now. You lose 2 people from any group, and it becomes a problem. This is not special to the tackle position. RT is a spot that Texas has some answers. Not sure that can be said for LT. Flood as recruited a decent amount of OG/RT types. Assuming Goosby performs as expected (going off memory, but I believe he had ~315 snaps without giving up a single QB hit), Texas can leave him on an island and help the RT. Injuries are never good, but I can think of at least 20 others that would have had more impact on the season.
  9. appreciate the jab at Satya, but that list has 103 RBs on it. it is pretty meaningless
  10. it is pretty simple. Texas just put on pads yesterday. It's a long season. The staff should be extremely cautious this time of year. There is nothing to be gained rushing a player back in August.
  11. I generally think posting anything vs air is a total waste of time, unless it is shitty. Every P4 Qb should look like a future HOF NFL player vs air. That is a really bad sign.
  12. Flood has not taken a lot of true left tackles, at least according to the industry "professionals". Goosby is probably the last true tackle that Flood has taken. He is a size queen. Lot of RT/Guard combo type players. Keep in mind I believe that NFL RT is more than capable of playing LT in college and even some guard/centers can work.
  13. Stop. It hurts the depth of the OL, but he likely was not even going to start. He was not even a lock to be 2nd string by the end of the season.
  14. i can go over Ewer's miscues but let's focus on Moore dropping a ball where he was staring directly into the sun. This implies Worthy Worthy never dropped a ball.
  15. Believe today was the first day with pads, so this may have been contact. This might be the scariest time of the year for coaches and fans. You want to have a great and physical camp to prepare for the season, but you also want to get out healthy. There will always be some injuries, you just hope they are not detrimental to the season.
  16. Not like this was a bad or even a mediocre WR room. I'd bet we will look back at 24 and say he was throwing to 3 NFL talents. It was a downgrade from what was a historic Texas level, but still at a level that would make 95% or more of college Qbs jealous.
  17. OL was probably better, but that is it. The defense was light out. Big difference being the 2nd/3rd WR. Saying a QB needs to have 3 NFL WRs to be a great college QB is not a serious argument in my opinion. Its really rare for college QBs to get that luxury, unless you play QB at OSU recently. There are not a lot of QBs last year that had equal or more talent.
  18. That is definitely it, evidence by Maalik finishing 71st in QBR, 13 turnovers in 12 games, and the high demand for him in the portal
  19. Very possible, but you could use the DTs that way and PK has done that (play DT at Jack and bump the Jack to Buck). I would guess you will see that this year, given the absurd depth at DT. I usually worry about assignment soundness and play strength, when it comes to freshmen DL. Lot of them have the size, but not necessarily the play strength to line up vs OL that have been in college S&C programs 3-4 years longer. It is early in camp, so I take it all with a grain of salt. Coaches move people around for all types of reasons.
  20. Interesting that is a big ass Buck. He projects to Jack long term. Guessing they are just putting him there to get more snaps.
  21. Buck: Simmons, Zina, Spence, Orogbo Jack: Burke, Vasek, Jackson, and assume Terry.
  22. This is exactly what I am talking about. We all know the Duke offense was the worst unit on the field for Duke. We know the offense struggled. We know the Duke coaches brought in someone to upgrade the QB position in the portal. Despite all of that, you argue he did his job. As the saying goes "Do not let the facts get in the way of truth".
  23. I didnt say a losing record. I said he was undefeated at Texas because he was surrounded by NFL talent. He lost (games) at Duke, because he was surrounded by mediocre talent. The point was people need to stop using simple records as a barometer for QB play. Just because a team wins at a high level, it does not mean the QB played at a high level. By the way, we could make the same argument for Maalik. The Duke offense finished #96 in FEI and the defense #30. The Duke coaches seem to have understood my statement.
  24. Quinn was contributor to Texas's success the last 3 years. He was not the main reason. The NFL draft was evidence of that. Maalik never lost at Texas, because he was surrounded by NFL talent. He lost at Duke, because he was surrounded by mediocre talent. QB is the only position on the field that people pretend team success is a barometer for individual play. The defense led Texas to the playoffs the last 2 years, but nobody is going to say Sorrell is a legend based on that
  25. It’s a bit tougher on the QB. Lot of back to the defense, turn, and make a quick read. The best part is I may not have to watch a 3rd and 2 out of the shotgun this season
